Traintown - stop halfway thru the railroad ride
    Stephanie Y.

This is a great little train centered amusement park, perfect for littles. My 8 year old had just as great time as my 3 year old. The train was fine - it rolls through the park, through dark tunnels, and stops at the little miniature town with a petting zoo. Not too many animals, but loved feeding the alpaca! The rides! So fun! They had maybe around 6-7 and they let my 3 year old on, which was unexpected, and he loved it. We did the Scrambler, the Tug Boat, the roller coaster and ferris wheel. We were in and out in about an hour+; which gave us plenty of time to go wine tasting after. Overall, a solid stop. We came earlier in the morning, about 10:30am and it was already crowded, but not packed. While the parking lot was full, there is plenty of street parking. We'd def stop again on our next visit to Sonoma for some ride fun!

My family and I visited Sonoma Train Town Railroad for the first time about 7 years ago. This is one of the better family friendly hidden gems in the Sonoma county. We happen to be in the area recently and so I was able to share the experience with my other family members like my parents, brothers, and their families. We arrived on a Labor Day Monday. The train town is located in a nice area in Sonoma close to beautiful downtown Sonoma. There is plenty of accessible parking in the large parking lot. It is free to go in but tickets are required for the amusement park rides and train ride. Unfortunately we did not get to go on any of the other rides, the train is the main attraction so we only bought tickets to ride on that. The train ride is an amazing 20 minute journey through a small forest with tall trees, lagoons, waterfalls, a petting zoo, tunnels, and historic structures. I appreciate that the train ride is suitable for both kids and adults. The petting zoo and duck pond was a pleasant surprise. Overall we enjoyed our experience at Sonoma Train Town Railroad. The staff was friendly and helpful. We need more family friendly establishments like these in the South Bay that both adults and kids will appreciate. If we are ever in the area we hope to be back.

What a cute little semi-amusement park for families with young children! My family and I came here this past weekend to ride the train. It was a 20min train ride with a nice stop in the middle of the ride where you get to explore the animal farm and feed the goats (need to pay $.25 to get the food pebbles) and check out the little town they built in the area. Pretty cool! All the rides required a ticket but there was no admission fee. It cost $4.25 per ride and $9.75 for the train ride. The prices for the rides were for everyone including babies. Those under 12months old were able to ride the train for free. Super fun family event and for families with young children! Just make sure to bring sunblock and fluids for the little ones! No outside food or drinks but they had a food stand that sold snacks and drinks. There was also a toy store with plenty of train toys! Overall, great experience! Check it out! Last weekend for the summer is Aug 10th.

One of the best experiences and places to visit with little ones. The train engine collection itself is adorable and will attract adults and young ones alike. The first favorite was definitely the train ride and the little stop. Our baby absolutely loved the little school at the station. The Alpacas and rabbits the next favorites. The carousel was enjoyed by all of us thrice. The Ferris wheel/ helicopter ride came next. Come with food for your kids since what they offer are only popcorn/pretzel/bruschetta. That's not enough food / options as healthy meal options. But definitely enjoyed them as snacks. We felt the number of restrooms are not enough and we didn't find the diaper changing station. That was disappointing. May be we missed it. Overall plan to spend full day to enjoy most of the rides. We did double rounds of train and helicopter rides too. Will definitely be revisiting with days getting longer and warmer now. Ending our day with little whistle purchase from the gift shop was the perfect way to say good bye.

The perfect little amusement park for kids who love train! We brought our just turned 2 years old toddler here to celebrate his 2nd birthday. Entry is free and rides were $4.95 per person or 5 tickets for $18.95. Def try out the mini roller coaster which was so fun, even for our 14 year old! Pro tips: You will want to prepare some quarters for when the train stops at small animal petting area. You can get feeds for a quarter. There is a water hose next to where the train stops which you can turn on to wash your hands after feeding the animals Have some dollar bills as well for some air hockey by the train station.

Never heard of this place until my mini me suggested it as a family outing with her baby and us. Parking was ok but very busy. Admission is free but rides including the 20 min train road are at a reasonable cost. I wanted to go for the train ride. Mini me and grand baby loved the carousel ride. The train was cute and easy to get into. We all loved the ride and even the little intermission they take you to a little petting zoo with alpacas and goats to feed. There even ducks too. The ride on train back to front of park was nice as you can see all the rides throughout the place. While we did not get to go any other rides as it was getting so hot and unbearable we definitely would come back when grand baby is a bit older but she along with all of us had a great time.

Brought my family hear and my Granddaughter enjoyed herself very much. You can get on different rides by purchasing tickets. The train ride takes you throughout park and a brief stop at the petting zoo where you can feed the animals. They have place for refreshments. I'm glad my Granddaughter enjoyed herself.

This is such a fun place! Went here for daughter's first birthday and she loved it! A lot of things to do and see. She was really excited for the train, helicopter and carousel. It was fun for my husband and I too! We came back the following day because it was that much fun.

Ask the Community - Sonoma TrainTown Railroad

Can you have a birthday party there?

Yes. Check out their website for more info

    Do they have food offerings?

Yes. Nothing fancy, but they have pretty good hamburgers, hotdogs and sandwiches. That type of fare.

Any idea when they will reopen?

Why does it show open on the weekend but it is really not, we drove all the way to this place on a Sunday and it was close?

The winery is open for tasting by reservation only. they do allow walk-ins on a case to case before 4 PM.

    Is it good for strollers?

Yes, lots of people bring strollers. There is a designated space to park your stroller by the train tracks for when you ride the train.

    Are they open weekdays now?

Yes, they are. We went on a weekday. I would just double check their hours, because I think they close earlier for fall and winter seasons.

Just wanted to double check, do I need to bring cash? Or is credit card acceptable.

    They accept credit cards.

    Are dogs allowed?

Officially no. Service dogs always. I have seen a parent holding a dog away from the rides but no, not walking around where the kids and rides are. It's a very small venue and can get crowded on a weekend.

I actually like this place better than the San Diego Safari Park…read more The parking lot can be packed if you go on a weekend. The check-in process was pretty easy also. We checked-in with our tour guide and let him know that we were joining another family. They put us in the same jeep. They can fit 4 people on the roof but you must be a certain height. I would want to ride above but it was really sunny so I didn't want to get burnt, lol. You'll ride through many many acres of land with all types of animals. They have varieties of antelope that freely roam. They can get really close to the jeep so be careful. I was surprised that the place did not really smell like poop like some other zoos, lol. The tour was like 2 hours on the jeep and another 1 hour walking tour. Our guide was very informational and had great humor too. Our kids loved it and I think all adults would enjoy it also.

We took our kids, ages 8 and 6, and they LOVED it! Our tour guide, Nicole, was awesome! She has been at Safari West for 4 years and really knows the animals, their behaviors and all the fun facts (along with some great jokes!). The jeep tour was about 2 hours, but it is engaging the whole time. We were lucky and got to see several brand new babies of multiple species!! We were all able to take turns sitting on top of the jeep, but sitting on the inside was great as well. After a short break, we did the walking tour which was the perfect ending. Also, we highly recommend the lunch buffet (which must be booked 48 hrs prior to arrival). We were all pleasantly surprised with how great the food was, plus it was kid approved as well! During our break, enjoyed some snacks from Delilah's - the dole whip was a favorite! Thank you Safari West for the awesome memories.

I love a good spin and flip ride, but when the flips and spins come one right after the other and don't seem to stop, that's when you lose me. I was surprised they didn't have more in between roller coasters, ones that weren't just for 7 year olds or the ultimate thrill seekers. I've been to Great America a ton and was expecting some more options like that. We came at Christmas time and were pleasantly surprised to see how great they decorated the place. It was so festive and fun to see. I loved the gingerbread village and the reindeer roundup. It was a cold rainy weekday when we were here, so the park was pretty empty and we didn't have to wait for anything. In fact, each time a ride ended they offered you to stay on and ride again without even having to move. We waited in line to buy tickets for just that day and luckily the guy at the window told us they were about half the cost if you got them online, which we were able to do on the spot on our phones. Kinda strange that the cost to buy in person is so much more than buying online, but we were very thankful that was shared with us.

The package included food, snacks, and drinks, and they let us store our ice cream cake in the freezer. This obstacle course is SO MUCH FUN. Everyone was laughing and screaming. We felt like Dude Perfect! When we got tired, there were so many options to recharge: giant chess or cornhole, watching the wakeboarders, or just sunning on the turf beside our cabana. I noticed a lot of the negative reviews are about the water quality. This is not a pool, so the water is not clear; it has vegetation; and stocked fish control for mosquitoes. Since we already read about this online, we were neither surprised nor grossed out. It was a fun day outdoors! The office staff were super warm, hospitable, and accommodating. Even as we added to our food order last minute (because I saw how active the kids were being... they were ravenous!), they flexed with our request. The pizza was hot; the fruit was refreshing. We felt so well cared for! Safety-wise, I'm glad we brought older kids, mostly very strong swimmers, and vigilant parents. The course is large, and there are spots that are invisible from the lifeguards' posts. We had to initiate with the lifeguards a few times because they weren't giving us any information/direction. (eg: Can we start? Where do we start? Any rules we need to know? Are you still on break, or can we go in again?) They did not seem to have a system for the lifejackets. They were sleepy and eager to clock out. This is the first open weekend of the season; I trust they will establish consistent group protocols as the summer goes on. We had a great time and mostly guarded our own kids. We are eager to return again someday soon! THANK YOU for such a memorable, creative, raucous birthday party in the sun!
