Sonrisas is hands down the best decision we made for our boys before elementary school. In total, we attended the Newbridge location for three years. Twice we opted out of free TK at our home school because they were thriving emotionally and academically at Sonrisas. The extra travel time was well worth it. Maestra Lily is one of the most caring, dedicated, organized, generous, responsible, and talented educators I have ever met. Both of our kids started with no knowledge of the Spanish language (we speak English at home) and were reading in Spanish by graduation. My son who was enrolled here first is going into 3rd grade at a local DLI program and we get consistent feedback that his Spanish is excellent and that he enjoys it. Sonrisas sets an incredible foundation for anyone interested in raising bilingual children. They provide a wonderful balance between academics and play. SONRISAS IS AMAZING - I can't imagine there is a better daycare/preschool out there (plus it's Spanish Immersion)! My daughter started TK at Fiesta Gardens this year, and her teacher is so impressed by her Spanish knowledge. This can be attributed entirely to her experience with Maestra Edith and Maestra Bere when she was 2-3 years old, and then Maestra Lily and Maestro Hermes when she was 4. My wife and I do not speak Spanish, yet my daughter was bringing home small booklets in Spanish to read to us. She was phonetically sounding out words - it was beautiful to watch! She was able to learn so well at Sonrisas because they create a warm and welcoming environment. My daughter was so well supported socially and emotionally...and she learned valuable skills and lessons when interacting with her peers and making friends. The school also puts on several holiday celebrations and goes on a few field trips to include families and showcase all of the wonderful learning they are doing in school. Maestro Hermes even does Taekwondo with students which they all seem to look forward to and love. We have enjoyed Sonrisas so much that our two year old son started the program in June. He is loving school, and almost daily will say something to the tune of "yay school!" when we arrive in the morning. He is already saying words and sentences in Spanish after only a few weeks, but more importantly, he is so happy there! Sonrisas is an amazing institution. Maestra Lily and Maestro Hermes did such a wonderful job creating a warm, welcoming place for our son. He made many friends at Sonrisas, learned how to speak Spanish and even reading and writing! Sonrisas is an exceptional preschool that I would recommend to anyone. We have had our son in the Holland site (for younger children) for the past year and he has thrived there. Prior to Sonrisas, he was home with a nanny, so we were concerned about how the transition to preschool might go. Maestra Edith and Maestra Pau were so warm and welcoming that our son was soon delighted to be dropped off. In addition to all the Spanish activities and songs, there is plenty of play time indoors & out. There are also special celebrations throughout the year, many of which parents attend, as well as special field trips. My son just finished his 3rd and final year at Sonrisas. He attended the younger site with Maestra Edith and the older site with Maestra Lily, and both teachers are absolutely phenomenal. In fact, the reason we found Sonrisas in the first place was because when I was volunteering in my older son's kindergarten class, I noticed 3 of the children who already read fluently in Spanish and spoke fluent Spanish, even though their families spoke English at home. The common denominator was that all three kids attended Sonrisas. The environment is warm, caring, loving, and rich in terms of teaching and learning. My son absolutely loved it there, and formed friendships with his core group that have lasted. From the projects to the field trips to the butterfly unit to the holiday performances, the taekwondo and and all the other extras, I was always surprised by how much both these teachers do for the kids and how much the kids learn. My son is headed to transitional kindergarten and is already reading in Spanish, counting to 100 in Spanish, and has gained tremendous oral fluency. Even more importantly, he comes home happy and tired every day, and we hear daily about what he is learning. We have attended Sonrisas for years with all 3 of our kids, now all graduated, and have loved every moment. The teachers are warm, friendly, consistent and helpful. They foster an outstanding sense of community and our kids have always loved going. They and we have made many friends there. I'm so blessed that both my daughters have been taught by Lily and Edith over the past few years. I've had my girls with them over the past 4 years and they take such care with the social and emotional development of the kids at their school.
