I broke my finger playing flag football…read more Yea, I know...what? As gluttonous as I may be, I do try to get out there and put my body to work so I can glutton more (and write subsequent Yelp reviews). So I broke my middle finger trying to catch a football during a flag football game...blah blah blah, I didn't think it was broken so I played more (and, yes I am proud to say, got a critical 4th down flag with the hand with the broken finger!). This (as well as yanking on it) probably dislodged a bone in my joint. 24 hours later, I was in the ER getting my ring sawed off my purple finger & being told that I most likely need surgery. JAM. So unfortunate. I walked out of there with x-rays in one hand (remember to ask for it so that you don't have to go back!) & the other (defunct) one in a foam block that looked like a blue LEGO. 1 frightening refusal by a plastic surgeon, 1 acceptance by another plastic surgeon, finger surgery at Brackenridge, & weeks with a increasingly smelly cast later, I found myself at rehab twice a week for 2 months. yay..... I've only had 1 occupational therapist but Christie is THE BEST EVER. She (while making me hurt so bad I silently wept - you think Vicodin will help? I have scars from the surgery but I can almost bend and straighten like I could before. But thankgoodness, my finger looks amazing for what it's been through and I can do a lot of the things I took for granted (i.e. clipping my nails with my left hand, buttoning my jeans, twisting open pens, holding bags of groceries, do pushup(s)). I hope everyone needing hand therapy goes to see Christie (she was "assigned" by my plastic surgeon - his review coming up).

I have a great aftercare plan as well. I loved the location, ease and cost (free!) of parking. The environment was professional, but really fun. Mostly, I'm grateful that I was in good hands (literally!) and the result was extremely positive. I have nothing but positive things to say about Robert (PT), Emily (ST), and Drew (OT). Drew is an angel on Earth. This woman has the most complex area of the three. She doesn't blink an eye and goes with the flow. Robert is a great physical therapist as well. He knows how to push without seeming to push. Emily is lovely. We had other therapists, and everyone was professional, but this was my father's key team. The nursing is better than most. Are they all rock stars? No, but all were above average. The food was decent for a hospital, and they actually want you to get items you like. The place is clean and has no bad smells. The cleaning crew cleans your room daily. Parking is simple and free for visitors. No crazy visitation hours. Everyone on the staff listens and makes you feel heard. No one wants to be at a rehab hospital, but this will be the only one I will go to moving forward.

Nurses and techs are very hardworking, professional and attentive, especially appreciated given how depressing these places could be. The physical therapist and occupational therapist we were assigned were both outstanding! They couldn't have been more thoughtful and patient. It's a modern bright place with a common room where you can have a meal or a game with visitors. The therapy gym room looks well equipped. Only constructive feedback I have is the check in could have been better. We weren't really greeted by anyone like the case manager and so we didn't really know what was ahead of us.
