RUN as far away from Defuniak Springs Gentiva. Staff chooses sides with hearing only one side of family member. They also made my dad lay there his last three days without pain meds, they werent prepared with the pharmacy and my dad suffered. Worst staff EVER! You didn't take my concerns or need for a pain free stay after my stroke and severe back pain seriously while I a patient there so why would you respond to my needs after? Every-time I asked to speak to the doctor or for help I was turned down. Patients have the right to be free of pain or have less pain as well as be treated with compassion. I am still impacted negatively from my treatment received at your facility. I hope you have done some improvements since my hellish stay. The one nurse who told me I quote " if you keep crying I won't come back into your room" should have been fired for her lack of compassion. I hope your staff takes a urine bag connected to my bladder being stepped on and left on the floor without cleaning seriously two years later. My stay there made me feel as though I would die and hence the reason I requested to transfer. read more

Whatever you do do not take your loved ones to this place!!! they will end up being sicker and more hurt than when they came in. I actually asked if Covid has affected the amount of employees they had and they said no they're fully staffed so don't let them tell you that's their excuse. They literally don't know what they're doing, my father-in-law is worse off now than when he first came in and they don't care. Every day they keep making the exact same mistakes. They had him in the same diaper for two days, they didn't move him from his bed for 3 1/2 days, he has a fractured spine and they have yet to put his brace on before moving him, the lists goes on and on and on and on and on. have reported them to the health department they will be doing an investigation in the next 48 hours again, I cannot emphasize this enough, do not bring your loved ones or yourself to this place. read more

Highly recommend this place. I have been here for 9 days every new day is better than yesterday. Doctors are like shining star to give hope. Nurses are healers, Derrick, Sharron , Lisa , Tim, Ashley and Dorothy Awesome. Brandon is good but he could do better. PT and OT peeps are Angels Speach therapy peeps great but there is room for improvement. Dietitian Becky is great but there is room for improvement, Techs are awesome , Vanessa, Dolores, Janie, Madison. Case Mager Tammy Awesome, Van Driver don't remember his name was awesome, Admission lady Tamara , awesome House keeping peeps awesome, HS Niki, Quinnett Awesome This is a great Facility with two awesome Gyms run by Paul awesome again. Amazingly beautiful and professional skilled nursing place. My 80 year old mother in law has been to several of these places after her hobby of breaking hips, tibia, and other bones and generally hates them all. But after recent gall bladder surgery she came here through the late class of the draw and THIS PLACE ROCKS! Super clean, professional and very caring nurses, spotlessly clean, good food, fantastic PT and OT -- they've got it all, in large, pretty, and clean rooms. Superb! read more

When I discharged on March 7, 2015, I had very negative comments and thoughts about the facility only because of a few staff members. Upon reflection, once I weeded out the fake staff from the genuine ones, I came to the conclusion that Central Texas Rehabilitation Hospital was an excellent facility where I received the best of care. Unfortunately, I cannot remember everyone's names but I would like to give special recognition to the nurses Brie and Derrick, the techs Hilda and Virginia, OT Therapist Cindy and PT Therapist Rachel who all took great care of me along with their colleagues. I also must add that Diane and her crew in the kitchen showered me with their delectable delights. Last but certainly not least, I want to thank Dr Williams and Dr Lyson for being extraordinary. EXCELLENT!!! The Very Best of Care!! My 80 year old mother had major heart surgery and after almost she almost died from lack of activity at a rehab nursing facility, the CTRH brought her back to and beyond where she was supposed to be in her recovery. They gave her back her smile. The well trained, highly competent staff was thorough, attentive, courteous, kind, caring, and happy. They made extra sure she had everything she needed not only while she was there, but also after she was discharged. They orchestrated the transition to in-home care so it was not such a burden on the family trying to figure it all out. I hope they will consider opening an outpatient rehab facility. She would love to be able to come back for more rehab so she can get even stronger. read more

We had a great experience at Central Texas. The staff was courteous & professional. They often went out of there way for my wife & for our whole family. The CEO came by & spent an hour with us to help resolve an issue with Medicare. My wife was there for over three weeks & she definitely was greatly improved when she came out. I do not recommend this center. The staff sits at Brackenridge Hospital like vultures waiting to profit off of your illness. I should have gone with my gut instinct when I was provided a poor tour of the facility, but I choose this location after practically being begged by a hospital coordinator. My son spent one week here and I spent many hours with him where I witnessed several issues. The issues ranged from nurses arguing about another nurse calling in sick to the doctor who will not respond to requests once a patient is discharged for insurance purposes. Save yourself the headache of dealing with a heartless case worker and find somewhere else to take your loved one. read more

Staff: 6 stars. They are amazing and compassionate. Doctors: 1 star, do not recommend. I think the doctor who made my stay a waking nightmare was Dr. Khanna but literally no one could spell his name for me or give me any documentation with his name on it. I asked many people, asked the nurses desk, etc. It sure felt like he specifically didn't want me to know his name. Seems illegal, but ok. He was sitting in his house, refused to speak to me, refused to examine me, refused to even come to the building when he was the "on call" doctor, and tried to hold me hostage, remotely, in my room. Dr. Khanna (or whatever your name is, bro) gets off on tormenting sick people who question him. He collects a paycheck from this hospital because he likes to have sick people under his thumb. Someone should administer one of his cognition tests to him. He's not a compassionate practitioner, he's not even a present practitioner. He's the entire reason this place doesn't get five stars. Him entirely, no one else. The OT practitioner was amazing. The nurses are amazing. The gyms are amazing. The location is great. The facility is fine (no option to rent or buy mini fridges for rooms, and no option to store cooled food is pretty inhunane but whatever, I guess your grandma doesn't deserve ice cream or fresh juice). There's no patient orientation, so if you are not bed-ridden and need to wheel yourself around, get ready to have no one explain how anything works to you. Not sure who the transport guys work for, but from dell-seton to this place the transport was pretty gross, two gross, greasy men literally blasting death metal (seriously, not metallica, legit Norwegian metal) so loudly in the ambulance that I couldn't hear the guy next to me talking. Pretty trashy. Maybe they work for Dr. Khanna. One more time if you made it this far: Dr. Khanna is a piece of trash who will neglect and torment your grandma without ever even examining her. I should have been released to home from the hospital but the rep from the rehab convinced me to go. I also spoke to a rep from Kindred a couple months ago and told them all of this and they couldn't wait to get off the phone with me. So, no. Don't follow up. Far too little/too late. I also told every administrator I spoke with, including John, the owner, that I was going to write this review. No one cared then, when I needed them to care, so why on earth should any more follow up even be suggested? Y'all are ridiculous. You don't deserve your nursing team. And put mini fridges in the rooms. read more

Horrible! These are NOT Seton employees and it shows. We had an amazing, fantastic care experience at Seton Medical Center. Absolutely the best care possible while at Seton! We come to this rehabilitation center that is a Seton partner with Kindred Health and it was a nightmare. Rehab employees are Kindred, not Seton. Our nursing staff was incompetent and indifferent. They failed to provide needed care prescribed by doctor, and it was one problem after another. We only stayed 30 hours and that was too long. We moved to St. David's rehab hospital on 32nd St. and got excellent care. Night and day difference between the two. Central Texas Rehabilitation Hospital has major problems, based on our experience. read more

Update: don't take your dog here. My brother would have received better care by my veterinarian. Words cannot describe just how badly they screwed up. Update. My brother has never been contacted to discuss the fact they let him fall nor has he received something as simple as an apology. He had a prior fall which resulted in a TBI. He was rushed back to the trauma hospital at Brack as he suffered additional damage to his brain after this facility allowed him to fall again because they were short staffed (their admission) and failed to put anything in to place to keep him restrained to compensate for being short staffed as we were promised they would do. Civil litigation is being pursued. read more

A dear friend of mine was recently transferred from Seton to the Central Texas Rehabilitation Hospital after breaking her ankle in three places. I was with her during the transfer and left with the sinking feeling that I needed to remove her from that place immediately. Here are some of the patient-unfriendly things that occurred: (1) They did not have a walker or wheelchair for her use for several hours after her arrival. This made it necessary for her to have to wait for long periods of time to use the restroom. (2) Upon arrival, multiple people came in simultaneously in an attempt to make the admittance process look robust but all that happened was that the patient was barked at, not listened to, not given clear instructions and she ultimately became exhausted. (3) One staff member asked my friend a dozen or more questions and then failed to enter the information accurately into the system, which I could clearly read from where I was standing since the computer is positioned on the wall of the room and faces outward. Example: When my friend was asked about her family medical history, she began describing stroke, diabetes, heart attack, etc. on different sides of the family and the woman supposedly entering the data was not at all tracking the information that was provided. She would just sloppily type N/A or add cancer when that was not actually what was stated. (3) At one point a nurse finally helped my friend use the restroom, positioned her on the toilet, and then walked away, leaving the door open. My friend was considered a "fall risk" but the woman left her there regardless, so my friend had to wait on the commode for whenever the staff felt compelled to return. (4) As i wandered in the hallway looking for a glass of water that I had requested for my friend over 30 minutes prior (so she could have a protein drink), I overheard another woman telling a nurse that her father (a patient in the facility) had peed himself TWICE waiting for someone to attend him. There are red and green lights that flash outside of each door when a patient needs attention and the staff was blatantly ignoring them. They did not appear to be short-staffed as there was 7-8 staff members loitering in the hallways. (5) When the head doctor arrived, he spoke rapidly and deployed nothing but incoherent jargon, clearly unconcerned with the patient understanding her instructions about food, pain medication, and the rehabilitation process. The two times I asked a question, he would literally pretend to not hear me. It seemed that he had little bandwidth either for patient comfort, patient clarity, or any routine questions from interested parties. Based on my observations of this organizational culture, it was careless, dismissive of patient needs, and hierarchical (the doctor is a demi-god and need not deign to answer basic questions). It's possible that the performance varies depending on the working staff but overall, I was aghast at the total experience and wanted my friend out of there as soon as possible. read more

Highly recommended! My 87 yr old Mother was in Central Texas Rehabilitation Hospital 10 months ago. Upon admission she was weak, debilitated, depressed and could walk only a few feet. She stayed in the hospital 3 weeks. During her stay she received physical therapy, occupational therapy, nutrition consultation and encouragement. Upon discharge she could walk much better, she was eating more, she was hopeful. She discharged to an assisted living. Now 10 months later she has sustained her gains she made in rehab! She is functioning independently in assisted living. The care, attention,,encouragement and professional service she received while at Central Texas Rehabilitation Hospital was exceptional. The therapists have been exceptional. Thanks so much the Sarah and Rachael. Stepson was here for 5 weeks going from no movement to walking pretty much unassisted. The nurses were so patient and caring with him (he was challenging as time went on). Speaking and cognitive skills are much improved. I had concerns going in due to negative reviews however have basically nothing negative to report. Highly recommend if one has the unfortunate need. read more

Sandra, OTR & Melissa, RPT were wonderful & supportive. Dr Williams was very difficult to talk with. He always said it was not his specialty & ask someone else. He even told me to have the nurses bring him my questions! I found this rude. Toward the end, I was getting lots of mixed messages from staff about my antibiotics, etc.. The PICC nurse came in ranting & raving that I didn't meet her standards for a PICC LIne. I thought that this was very unprofessional It was ordered & was not my problem! Shannon, Edna & Christal were also outstanding Techs-- very attentive & helpful. It turns out that my doctor ordered no weight bearing at all, but this was interpreted as 'Toe Touch". Fortunately, no damage was done, but it was another case of mixed messages that seemed to dominate this hospital! I was there during the Memorial Day storm. We were ushered into an interior room for about 45 minutes. This was handled very professionally. The wound care nurse, Kelsey, was also outstanding. She explained every thing that she was doing so that I understood it. She was very professional & knowledgeable. She went on vacation just before I left. I had to help guide Pam M, the LVN, in changing my dressing. I thought at least an RN supervisor should have been doing it. Collette & Pam were great RN's (not to be confused with the LVN's). I basically had great care. I am a former RN, so I knew what to ask & what should be done. I worry about those who don't know what to ask when it comes to mixed messages from the staff. read more

The staff was very friendly and they seemed to be genuinely concerned with my rehab progress. The therapist were knowledgeable and knew exactly why I should or should not do certain exercises. The food was horrible so have your family and friends bring you food. Hopefully I won't have to but I would have no problem going back here. read more

Go elsewhere... If I could give this facility zero stars I would. I am writing this review in hopes of saving other families from the frustration and horrible care this facility provides. Staff are rude and uncaring. We only saw the doctor for the facility once on the day my father was admitted. During that exchange he was rude to my elderly mother and we never saw him the rest of my father's stay. After that day he was completely absent. When my father's condition was declining we asked to speak with the doctor. We were told he rounds at 4:30 am and if we wanted to see him we should be there at 4:30 am. This was indicative of the overall experience at this facility. The nursing staff spent more time sitting in the hallway on their cell phones then they did taking care of patients. The staff regularly had trouble with basic care like operating the blood pressure machine. On more than one occasion they had trouble with the blood pressure machine. Monitoring my father's blood pressure was essential and they couldn't even manage that. It took them multiple tries and nearly an hour before they figured out they should be taking it manually. Call lights regularly went unattended for extended periods of time. We would walk into the hall looking for staff and we would find patients and other family members doing exactly the same thing, asking "Where is everyone"? In general there are serious issues with the operation of this facility but they are too many and too graphic to describe in this review. In short, I would not recommend this facility to anyone. read more

I am living proof that Central Texas Rehabilitation Hospital is the best in Austin, Texas. I strongly recommend this facility. They have state of the art equipment and the physical therapists are so well educated and compassionate for the work they do. The hospital is gorgeous! the rooms are big, clean and pretty modern decor. The hospital staff is always so kind, helpful and patient. The doctors and administrative staff all take the time out to listen to your concerns. My family felt secure leaving me in the care of CTRH and I am so glad to have received the best care from CTRH that has made me walk today, go back to work and enjoy life again. read more

My 83 year old father had a fall at is assisted living center in December 2013 He was transferred to CTRH for 3 weeks after been evaluated at Seton hospital. While the underlying physical cause of the fall was unclear, the staff at CTRH worked well with him during his stay. My only complaint was a rushed and incomplete discharge protocol at Christmas time. read more

My 86-year old father had very good care at Central Texas Rehab during his 5-day stay. He had caught the flu and had gotten weaker during the winter months. The staff worked with him every day to get his strength back. It was comforting to me to know he was in caring hands. Thank you for your dedication and help. My 70 year old mother stayed here for two weeks because she shattered one shoulder and had it replaced and dislocated the other shoulder. It was awesome to have two different doctors check on her every day. The techs, nurses, and therapists were very caring and she absolutely loved a number of them. She made great progress in two weeks and was able to go home and take care of herself. Her only complaint was the food. She did not enjoy a good majority of it and sometimes her orders were wrong. But she was there for therapy, not a five star restaurant, so she did not complain too much about the food. I would highly recommend this facility! read more

Never never go to this rehab ??? facility, the new one here in Austin (several yrs old at this point) called Central Texas Rehabilitation Hospital - the worst. This is where my son went after his recent 2nd surgery - the surgery was probably the hardest of the two - 7 hours wherein they went back in to do a procedure to check his mobility issues and removed his hardware from the first surgery and did multiple procedures. We so wanted TIRR however, his new insurance would not accept TIRR. Many times the nurses came in to do a procedure for him and didn't know he was paraplegic - they would say things like "okay, roll over to your stomach" or we will start your OT please sit up and move your legs into the chair." OH MY GOSH! He had to respond that he would not do anything until they read his chart. The docotrs would not administer the pain meds his neurological doctors prescribed.... his wife could hardly not explode. Unfortunately, I do not know how any facility like this stays open. read more

I can't give enough praise to Central Texas Rehabilitation Hospital! My 95 year old mother was recently there for a little over two weeks, and the experience was wonderful for her and also her family members who visited her daily. The doctors, nurses, therapists, and the techs went above and beyond to care for my mother and also her family. I can't thank everyone enough for all they did. They were professional and extremely caring. Thanks so much to everyone - it was a great experience. My wife was there for 15 days from suffering a broken pelvis. The staff and facilities are great. Would go back there anytime.

My cousin and dear friend, for whom I am the responsible family member, was in a horrible car/bike accident on 9/11/11. He was in ICU at Brackenridge Hospital for 3 weeks. He suffered major brain damage and was on a ventilator. He had two collapsed lungs, severe pneumonia, multiple spinal fractures (some were unstable) and multiple other fractures. He went from there to CTRH. It was very questionable whether he was well enough for CTRH at the time of the transfer because he was totally immobile, breathing through a trach, and had copious secretions requiring near constant suctioning. It was a very scary time but Brack was discharging him so we had little choice. CTRH was fantastic. By the time he left 90 days later, he was walking with a walker and talking, trach free. The facility is brand new and super clean. The employees were great--there was a respiratory therapist in particular, I believe her name was Jeanine or something like that, who was an absolute angel of mercy. My cousin later went to another facility with a lower level of care and is now back home and back to work. It was truly a miracle and CTRH played a major role. I would highly recommend this facility. read more
