If you are looking for serene spa-like setting, this place is not it. The place looks a little cluttered and could use a lady's touch. You get your massage in a room that used to be a dining room or something, so it's not really a closed-in massage room. There is a privacy curtain, but doesn't really close fully at the end. Perhaps that's for some people who don't feel comfortable being in a closed room with a male masseuse. That being said, the massage is great and VERY affordable. Michael Anthony might be the best licensed massage therapist in the tri-state area - he's better than anybody I've been to even in New York. I saw him regularly for pain management (after an injury to my cervical spine) when I lived in New Jersey, and even after moving back to New York, there is nobody I trust more to put me back into action when I manage to jack myself up, and I still try to see him at least a couple times a month. His rates are extremely affordable and it is absolutely worth it to go see him. I have never met any other massage therapist who is as talented as detecting and eliminating tension, and restoring range of motion. He is also an extremely nice guy, has a great sense of humor, and is truly dedicated to helping you get better - unlike other therapists, who try to string you along for as many appointments as possible, and then do a half-assed job on you. Michael is extremely professional, and dedicates himself 100% to getting you to be relaxed and pain-free by the end of your session. He is also the best-trained massage therapist I've ever been to - in addition to his training from massage school, he has also attended numerous continuing education courses in order to learn more varied massage techniques, and to receive specialized training on treating specific body parts (such as the neck, lower back, etc.), as evidenced by the numerous certificates and accolades mounted on the wall by his desk. In order to keep his prices affordable, he runs a one-man operation, and doesn't have a secretary - so if you try calling and he doesn't pick up, it's best to leave a message with your phone number; it's also a good idea to email him, which is what I usually do. Michael is a master at what he does. Hands down the only massage therapist that was able to make me feel like a human again! I managed to basically lock my right side of my lower back which caused me so much pain if I sat for too long. I couldn't stand properly, lay down comfortably. I went to a Chiro and they had a massage therapist in staff and that was a total joke. I've gone to other ones in the past and they just did not hit the right problem areas. TIP for the first timers: when calling to make an appointment and you don't get through, LEAVE A MESSAGE. He will call you back as soon as he can! This is how the beginning of a typical appointment convo goes with Mike and me..... Mike: "Hey Marthy, how are you doing?" Me: "I'm doing well, how are you?" Mike: "No you're not..or else you wouldn't be calling me." LOL!! Mike knows what's up. He can immediately tell what's wrong with you the moment you walk through the door. Could be your posture or the way you're walking or standing, he will start evaluating what needs to be done. He truly cares about all of this clients and about the work he does. You can come in for an hour massage appointment and possibly stay for an extra 30 mins or so just because he isn't finished working out some knots and because your back is that messed up! (yep that's what happens with me all the time) I don't come in for a fluffy duffy massage. I need the painful deep tissue massage that leaves me sometimes bruised, but actually relieves all the pain and makes me feel amazing the next day. If that's you then... YOU NEED TO SEE MIKE ASAP! Don't expect a "spa-like" experience here. He uses high quality products and customizes them for each client, but the decor isn't what you would typically see if you were to go to one of those high-end spas. You're coming here to get some pain relief, not to ooooo and aaaaahhh and the decor though, am I right??! He's here to give you your money's worth and TRUST ME, it's totally worth it! Michael must be the best kept secret of LMT's in the area. I am a flight attendant and former circus aerialist and have received countless massages over the years so I know what's good and am pretty picky. This guy is good. Really, really good. I've had persistent, constant tightness for years in a very deep area of my neck from an old trapeze injury. Michael found it immediately and very patiently worked on it. My appt was for one hour -- he worked on me for almost 2. By the time I left I was actually PAIN FREE, something I have not experienced since I can remember. Additionally, he noticed I was dehydrated from work and applied a special paraffin treatment to help rehydrate. Big businesses like massage envy and discount spas have a limited time to work before seeing the next client, use the same standardized technique, and I would often walk out feeling generally relaxed but still with the pain that led me there in the first place. Sometimes I would even be in worse pain, as if they were able to locate the problem and bring it to the surface, but not alleviate it. I figured if these licensed practitioners couldn't treat it, it wasn't treatable and just accepted pain and stiffness as normal. Michael proved me wrong; honing right in specific issues with the precision of a skilled doctor. It just took more patience than you'll find at a typical spa. Michael is a rarity -- genuinely interested in finding, fixing, & explaining the problem and making people feel their best. He seemed to have intuitive knowledge of the right pressure to use and different body types. On top of that, his rates are very reasonable and he uses massage tables more comfortable than my own bed. Oh, and there is free off street parking, which is a luxury in North Jersey. You don't need to stress about finding a spot or getting a ticket. Nice, soothing atmosphere inside. Large flat screen tv in the waiting area (though there was no wait, he seems to spread clients out generously). He also keeps records on the specific issues for each person so that he knows what to focus on next. At the end of the visit, Michael even went through one more time to make sure there was no remaining tension! His primary concern is helping his client, not how much time has passed. I thought practitioners like that were urban legends. Only thing I would suggest is spruce up the website. Maybe add a bio with some info about yourself and MT background. How have I not written a review for Sooth Away Your Aches???? Michael is amazing. Seriously. I'm not wild about being touched. In fact, I'd avoided massages for years because I don't like strangers touching me. I relented a few years ago, but never quite got the sense of euphoria that everyone else seems to. Like - I'd be somewhat more relaxed thanks to the hour or so in a dim, aromatherapied, soundscaped room, but would still feel every knot, tightness, and ache. Until I met Michael last year. There are really no words to describe how different this is from your standard issue massage. Michael actually finds all of the knots, and tightness, and aches, and he addresses them systematically. I'll walk in feeling a little beat down and tired, but leave feeling restful and ready for life. I can't recommend Michael highly enough. Michael is one of the best Massage therapist in the area he truly is passionate about his craft. He works on you until all your aches are soothe away. The first time I went to him I was not sure what I was getting myself into. A two hour massage for $40 is practically unheard of, but I left feeling like a million bucks and sometimes as a flight Attendant we end up feeling like a dollar at the end of the day! I havent had massage for decades. I stopped going to spas or massage places because most of the time Im not satisfied. I dont feel any relief and most of the time pain get worst. Not impressed will not be going back. Michael the Massage Therapist does not know what he is doing. I wanted a traditional deep tissue massage, full body. One he did not focus on trouble area , my back. Two did not work on feet because as he said he does not do Reflexology. And lastly he bruised my legs and glutes, which is still showing after a week and a half. He said he was doing Myofascial Release. I never had this modality done on me before. If you're in pain for the first time or dealing with chronic pain and have been seeking a therapist who truly understands the anatomy of the body, you must go find Mike. As a dentist, I know that a good care provider is someone who is driven by the goal to help someone achieve health vs putting his business and time first. It's obvious that his goal is nothing other than to help alleviate your pain. Also as a dentist, I've constantly dealt with chronic neck/shoulder/back pain and have become a professional massage client. I know a good one. Mike is the real deal. There were times during my appt when I'd be blown away at how he'd find something and take his time to resolve it. If you've been to a good massage therapist, they'll probably pay attention to your sore spot and then move on. He's BETTER! Mike literally spent 3 hours on me to patiently resolve every kink in my body. I can't even tell you how thorough and committed he is in getting your body back to "normal" and I'm distraught as I'm from Baltimore and found him during my weekend work trip. I went in with a lot of pain which I (incorrectly) thought was coming from my lower back. Low and behold, the pain was stemming from my hips. Michael worked his "magic" and I left pain free. Michael is a wonderful masseuse. I usually go to him when i'm in extreme pain, I mean extreme. Once I couldn't raise my right arm for a month, IDK what I did. Anyway, one sessions with him and a couple of days later. PAIN GONE. Seriously, IDK what he does but it works like magic. He specializes each massage according to where I have pain or discomfort in my body. I had carpal tunnel once so he used paraffin wax on my hands, it was so nice and relaxing. If you want the best...you go to the best. I went to Mike for my shoulder, which I tore 2 years ago and had rotator cuff surgery. After years of rotating therapists at chain-massage companies, I am so happy to have found Michael. For years I have suffered from tight muscle knots in my back, legs, neck, glutes. This month will be a year since the daily deal groupon changed it all. Since being diagnosed with diabetes some years ago, I have made massages a weekly routine, having numerous LMTs. I use to have a LMT come to my house that was capable and good, but his schedule conflicted with mine. My groupon purchase day was that freak snowstorm last October. I was leery at first, and a bit apprehensive about "cheating" on my LMT- but oh well! When Mike started my massage, I know this was the therapist for me.
