Sophies was the first location I visited to try on wedding gowns and what an unfortunate decision...I don't think I could have ever felt more discouraged in my whole life. This place seems to be a disorganized mess to me, from the moment I walked in I had 3 different people talking at me, shoving random dresses in my face that were nothing like I had described and it was just so overwhelming. All the dresses were stuffed so tightly in the racks it was hard to even tell what they looked like and with so many people involved in my appointment I wasn't even able to have a look for myself. They has so many different appointments going on with all the brides right in the centre of the store it was just intimidating. To top it all off the second gown they put on my I fell head over heels in love with only to discover the cost was $2300 when I told them I wanted to spend $1500 on a dress with my absolute max top dollar being $2000. They wouldn't even allow me to take 1 photo, I can understand these stores don't want you taking a photo of every gown you try on but the following 5 locations I went to try gowns before finding my gown allowed me to take at least 1 or 2 photos of my absolute favourites. The only thing was one of consultants (My main consultant I think) was really nice, she even apologized about the appointment when I told her I would be cutting it short and offered to have me return at a later date, when the other consultant that was really pushy wasn't working. I think the person that threw me off the most may have been the boss or the manager or something. Mind you that's just speculation I suppose but I have to give credit where credit is due and they young lady that helped me was really nice.. In total I went to 6 different Bridal Gown locations and this was my only bad experience. After I visited here I was so put off by the whole experience I waited 3 weeks to make another appointment anywhere else which I'm glad I did. read more

I went with my best friend to pick out her wedding gown. The appointment went fine, and she ordered her dress. The problem arose when we went to pick it up. We waited a very long time because they couldn't find the dress. We saw the staff whispering about it in the back. Eventually one of the staff members brought out the dress and took us to the fitting room. The dress was not in a garment bag. She had tried on the sample at her appointment which was a size 6. She decided to order the 8 so it wouldn't be too tight...you can always take a dress in. When she tried on the dress, it was tight, and I noticed the Tag said size 6. At first we thought they just ordered the wrong size. They told us that the manufacturer had sent the wrong size. When we looked closer at the dress, we noticed makeup stains on the neckline (bride wasn't wearing makeup), dirt on the hemline, and snags and beads missing. This dress was not new. They denied that it was the sample gown, but when we asked to see the sample they said they didn't have it anymore. They already had her deposit. We said we would take the dress as is, but weren't paying any more than the deposit of 50% that she had already put down. They offered to give it to her for 15% off. We left without the dress and had to threaten them with lawyers before they finally offered to negotiate. They never did admit that they were trying to pass off the sample as a brand new dress. read more

Very poor customer service. I felt really bad after I left the store. I went to Sophie's Gown Shoppe to look for a prom dress. When I first walked into the store, a lady came up to greet me. She was super nice she left me with this other lady who looked like she couldn't care less about what I wanted. I showed her a picture of the dress I had in mind and she asked if that was the design I had in mind. I told her that I wasn't specifically set on this design but she kept on pushing me to try on dresses just with that design, like she wanted me to leave as soon as possible and didn't want to deal with me. I was in there for at most thirty minutes and I didn't get a dress in the end. I could have gotten a dress from there because they had a great selection, but I don't see why I would if I felt like trash for wearing it. The lady made me feel like I wasn't welcomed in that store and I felt like I wasn't worth her time. Overall, it was a terrible experience. Would never go back for any reason. read more

Heard several bad reviews, but figured how hard is it to get a set of cups right... apparently very hard. When I called I was told $25, but in store they charged me $35 plus tax, so $40... so unprofessional. Unfortunately I didn't have time to go elsewhere. Very sad.... read more

The amount of selection was outstanding!!! They treated me as if I was actually on the show "say yes to the dress". My sister and cousin were also invited to search through dresses to help me find the right one! The staff is extremely helpful and friendly, although I would have enjoyed hearing more opinion from my sales associate, seeing that she would have an unbiased opinion. I ended trying on 8 dresses and going with the second one I tried on. Great place for your gown, and I was not rushed whatsoever! read more

Terra was AMAZING help in finding a wedding dress and bridesmaid dresses (we bought those online for A LOT cheaper). However when I went back to pick up my dress the experience was lackluster at best. The girls who helped didn't seem to care about anything. I asked about alterations and they said "ya I'm sure we can do something" and left it at that instead of asking me to book time with the seamstress or better yet, having the seamstress there for the appointment that I had to make to pick it up. Their pricing was also crazy. I found 75% cheaper elsewhere. I'd only recommend dealing with Terra and don't expect much after they have your money. read more

I shopped for a bridesmaid dress at Sophie's. The selection of dresses was good and overall, the experience was fine. But when it came time to order, they measured me and told me I needed to order a size 12. Even though the sample dress I tried on was a size 8 and fit very well. They told me the sample dresses stretch out from people trying them on... but there's no way a chiffon dress stretches 2 entire sizes. Anyway, I ended up ordering the size 8 (which they made sure to note was against their recommendation) and I'm glad I did because it's perfect. I would have had to spend a fortune on alternations if I had ordered the 12 as per their recommendation. This really rubbed me the wrong way! I wouldn't necessarily trust them on sizing. read more

They ordered a dress 2 sizes too small and refused not only to admit that they measured me wrong or ordered the wrong size, but they also didn't do anything to help me fix the dress that they messed up on. I wish I hadn't ordered a dress from this store, and just ordered something online. At least then it wouldn't take 6 months to arrive and I could actually get the right size. read more

I went to Sophie's in Kitchener to look for my wedding dress. Georgetta was wonderful and showed me a lot of dresses that were the style and price I was looking for. When I tried on the wedding dress I ended up buying I became a little emotional and she pulled me aside to make sure I was OK and to make sure she wasn't pressuring me. I received many complements on the dress at my wedding. Bobbie the manager was also a big help. My sister was home from California and we called the store at the last minute to see if we could look at bridesmaid dresses. Bobbie squeezed us in last minute even though the store was very busy. Every time we went in all the women were professional and seemed so excited about helping me with my dress! A great experience. read more

Fiance's gown came in with many holes in the lace and beading falling off, ordered the wrong veil, and even though they promised to fix the gown free of charge, did not fix it completely but still charged full price! They would not take any money off! We are now having to take the gown somewhere else to repair. Don't waste your time at this store. Would give this store 0 stars if I could. read more

My daughters and I visited this shop and felt very welcome. We appreciated that the sales people were not pushy in any way. They helped us look for bridesmaid dresses, pulled them for us and even wrote down the product #'s so that we could return with the bridesmaid to try them on at our convenience. Avoid this store like the plague. It is the most unprofessional, unfriendly service staff. I have never been treated so rudely as I had been by this store. They ignored me and my concerns and spoke to my daughter as if I wasn't there. Even though I was paying the bill. They said she already put the down payment down and if I wasn't happy with the quality I was out of luck. I would recommend dealing with a reputable company in Kitchener. Got better service in the gap over a 20 dollar shirt. Then I did buying a 2000 dollar dress. read more

Not impressed with this shoppe at all and if I could submit this review without a star I would! As we went in for our appointment to look at wedding dresses, my daughter was rudely told that she would not be able to find a dress under $1500 but "she would see what she could do". My daughter was brought a couple of dresses but left to try them on herself. We had just been to David's Bridal in Cambridge so we were expecting better service than we got. Needless to say we didn't stay long and were incredibly thankful that this was NOT the first shoppe on our list for our special day of wedding dress shopping! The store was messy, the staff unprofessional and lazy, the bathroom was disgraceful and the service very poor. NO bride should ever be made to feel anything but special while looking for dresses for their special day, NO MATTER THE BUDGET! I am surprised this store is still in business! Oh...and by the way...she DID find an absolutely stunning dress at David's Bridal for an incredible price well BELOW her budget!! read more

I can't even give this a star rating it was my first and worst experience I have ever had. I went in there and they made me feel like I wasn't good enough to be in there. I asked (in a joking manner) if there was a type of style that i could've had that wouldn't make me look fat she said. "It's not the dress that makes you look fat" (im a size 10 btw) that right there discouraged me to the point where I didn't even want to go anymore. It was terrible and this woman is horrible. This was one of the worst experience I've had in a retail store ever! I like to give a sales person the benefit of the doubt-everyone can have a bad day right? In this case there were 4 staff "working" and it was the same treatment from all of them! My daughters and I walked in to look at prom dresses and the only greeting we received at anytime was when one staff shouted from behind the counter to ask what we were shopping for. We said prom and that was the last we heard from anyone. Did I mention we were the only customers in the entire store at the time. Three staff were gathered around the counter trying to book something in a travel website-I'm not kidding! We weren't given any direction or asked if we wanted any help. We pulled down 4 dresses to try no ever came to check on us or assist my tiny size 00 daughter with clipping the size 2 and 4 so she could actually see how they looked on herself. We actually felt uncomfortable being there in the end and just left. As we were putting or shoes etc back on to leave the only sign of life was ta sales person looking annoyed as she put away the dresses we tried. No one acknowledged us as we left the store even though we were in plain sight of the counter. It was so awful. I would easily have dropped the average $500 price today if my daughter had found the dress she wanted but after that treatment I wouldn't step a foot back in that store. read more

AWFUL customer service i have recommend this place to a few people but will never recommend this place again. Bought my wedding dress, 6 bridesmaid dresses and MOB dress. At first they were nice but once everything was purchased they just became rude. First with bridesmaid shopping they put one of my maids in a dress from a different designer so had to get a similar one and add on straps. We were told they could use fabric from the bottom of the dress for the straps but when we went to pick up her dress they charged her 33$ for extra fabric she was NOT told about and they wouldnt do anything about it when she told them she did not order it. On the receipt it just said 33$ charge so she thought it may have been tax They talked to my bridesmaid as if she was stupid. They ordered sizes 2 times bigger for some bridemaid dresses and my mothers dress even though they told them not to. Lady with short hair has been awfully rude every time we went in. When i went in to look at my dress the first time there was NO ONE shopping in the store and she basically rudely threw a card in my face and told me next time to make an appointment. 100% understand why i see awful reviews about this place everywhere. read more

I had gone just this past week in hopes to find a prom dress. At other places I have gone to, they are always welcoming and ask what you are looking for, and begin to pull dresses that they think would match your vision. This brutal store did the exact opposite of that. When my mom and myself walked in, none of us were greeted. As we began to look, the whole staff were sitting behind the counter talking and looking at the computer. Never have I felt in a store not welcomed and not cared about. This was probably the worst place I have ever been to. Myself and my mom had to search through all the racks and was not approached once about possible assistance. I have no idea how this store is still in business due to the lack of customer care they provide. While we were leaving, no one acknowledged us or even said bye. It came to the point that if I even had found something, I wouldn't of even of bought it. If you are even thinking about coming here, don't waste your time.
