I had someone come to look at our gas burners on our VIking range. Two of them were not working. The initial appointment seemed to go well, we paid the guy $100 and he said he would order the parts and be back. It has been four weeks since the initial visit and I have not heard anything back from the contractor. I have texted the company multiple times - no response. I have rung and was advised by the company that they would get the contractor to contact me. This has still not happened (and its been nearly two weeks since then). I was also told they didn't have a number for the contractor to give me... What? How can they send out a contractor without his contact details. Makes no sense to me. Don't use them. read more

I purchased the extended warranty for our Whirlpool appliances. My washer needed to have the door lock sensor replaced after less than 3 years of use. Waited three weeks to be told (only after I inquired) that there was no delivery date from Whirlpool for that piece. I was able to locate that particular Whirlpool replacement part from a local parts store with a 2 day delivery. Tried to contact sos to have them purchase that part and still waiting for them to return my call. I quests SOS means YOU ARE S*** OUT OF LUCK. will never buy extended warranty again. read more

I called SOS Appliance Repir in Brantford to fix the touch pad on our electric range. The service man came and within 40 minutes a $79.95 service call became a$242.00 repair bill. I was not advised nor did I authorize the repair. After some back and forth he left with $150.00. After he left we noticed a hairline crack about 12" long in the panel that contains the touch pad. A few days later the whole panel started to separate from the stove. He used too big a screw to attach the panel and split the receptacle for the screw. Because we have no confidence in this company's ethics or ability we have decided to cut our losses and will call another repair service or may even have to replace our range. If there was a lower rating available I would have used it. read more

Called sos to come repair my fimeidge that was not cooling. They were able to send a Service technician to my place within a few hours, the technician called me when he was at the house and and told me that he replaced a startes relay and it was working perfectly. The cost was $600. When I got home a few hours later fridge was still not cooling, I called back the next day and the technician told me that if it was not cooling it would need to have the computer changed and it would cost $1200, but it had to be ordered and it would tak approximately 1 week. One week later I still had not heard from them so i called the technician, he said he would call the office and find out what was going on. About 10 min later someone called me to schedule an appointment. For this next service call it was a different technician And to my surprise he said that all that was wrong with the fridge was it needed to refill the gas!!!! 3 days later the fridge is still cold. I just called the office and spoke with Amanda regarding the $600 that I paid that didnt fix my fridge, and she flat out told me that she does not have to gime me any explanation, I agreed to pay the $600, and she then hung up the phone on me.!!!!! read more

The nicest repair guy I ever met just left my place after fixing my oven in a half hour flat. I am super impressed!! Found SOS this morning on Yelp and called them around 10am. They were actually able to get someone over to me at midday (!), but I couldn't be home then so opted for a visit between 3-5pm. At 3.10pm exactly my doorbell rang. The young man was very efficient, friendly, and courteous; he knew exactly what he was doing and figured out the issue straight away. (Didn't hurt that he was pretty cute too!) Plus they accept Visa and debit. Overall, excellent service--highly recommended! read more

Do NOT use this service. I had a problem with water leakage from my LG fridge that seem to be coming from the ice maker. Phoned and within 1 hour a service technician was at my door. He immediately went to the back of the fridge and mentioned that my compressor was gone and was going to cost over $1,400.00 to fix. The technician only took 5 minutes to analyze the problem by rolling down his sleeve to feel the compressor, he then quickly prepared the service call invoice. He left mentioning that it was better to buy a new fridge. Hours later, I decided to re-plug in the fridge and to my surprise, the fridge worked perfectly making ice and cooling everything with no water leakages. To this day the fridge works perfectly... I don't know why, but it works. I complained about the wrong diagnostics result from their service technician to the CSR at SOS, and they mentioned that they will stand by their verdict. Once again, the technician did nothing to fix the fridge and went away in a blur leaving me not knowing what the problem was, and almost costing me thousands. I had a problem with my fridge freezing all the vegetables etc in the bottom drawers. When the service technician arrived, he checked out the fridge and stated " everything seems to be working properly; the only possibility is that you have a circulation problem.There must be ice buildup ; simply defrost your fridge overnight and the problem should be gone" He took my money and was out the door in about 10 min. ( i estimate at that rate he's making $480/hr!!!) I took his advice, got coolers and ice and defrosted the fridge overnight...no joy; it still didn't work. When I discovered this, I called another place that had come highly recommended (whom i would have used but they were about to go on vacation and were unavailable) he kindly heard me out and stated " it's not true to say that the ONLY possible cause of this is a circulation problem.And clearly you don't as you have deforested it and it still doesn't work properly.You could easily have a problem with the thermostat that controls the temp in the fridge". Oh course you could... When I called SOS back and spoke with the technician, he still insisted that there could only be one cause..it was difficult to get him to agree that it could be a problem with the thermostat.Finally I INSISTED that he look into the availability/cost of a replacement circuit board. When I didn't hear from them for a couple of days, I called back ; he hadn't even looked into the thermostat!! Again I had to insist. Finally he got back to me and, of course , the circuit board was a very inflated price (on the order of $500) plus labour etc...and we don't really even know if thats what was wrong. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY I contacted SOS to repair my fridge. I was force to pay 50% up front in order for them to order the parts. The total cost was little over $600.00 and I paid the entire amount. In the end they couldn't identify the problem to my fridge after 5 separate visits with different technicians in each visit. I bought a new fridge in the end because i waited almost two weeks with no solution. I waited 4 month and i haven't receive my refund yet. I sent them email and tried calling them and they stopped responding. in conclusion, they didn't repair the fridge nor install any new parts to my old fridge. But i ended up paying $600.00. For those of you that have similar experiences, please file official complaint to the Consumer Bureau of Ontario. I would not recommend using SOS Appliance repair. Their website claims "expert professional diagonals" and "highly Skilled technicians" with "years of experience." The two guys that came to my house seemed very new to the job and clearly did not know how fix or even diagnose the problem. They fumbled around the oven , trying to figure out what the problem was. One of the elements is not working, and the oven doesn't heat evenly. After about ten minutes of nervously examining the stove, they said there must be a problem with the ignition. When asked for a more detailed diagnosis, they shrugged and said "it's difficult to explain." I offered to pay the $80 for coming out, and the technician laughed and said "don;t forget the taxes." So I paid nearly $100 for two clearly inexperienced "technicians" to look at my stove, offering no solution or diagnosis. On Thursday a technician came by to repair my refrigerator. He was professional, polite and seemed to know what he was doing. After a basic diagnosis it was determined that the problem was a simple fan. $389 later (which seemed rather expensive, but it needed fixed, so it is what it is) and about 15 minutes time for the installation, the refrigerator was fixed and he was on his way. Later that day I noticed that the fan seemed quite loud, compared to what it had been prior to needing repaired, but we didn't make an issue of it as we are planning a renovation in the coming months and decided to just live with it. On Saturday, the refrigerator was again quiet... and dead. I sent an email at 2am (when I noticed the refrigerator wasn't working) and expected someone to contact me on Sunday when they opened for business. Nothing. At noon, I called and was told I would need the original technician to come back and he isn't working until Monday! I asked someone to call me within a couple of hours to discuss why another technician couldn't fix the problem. No return call! At 5pm, I finally called and got someone who said he would deal with it right away. He had the technician who originally fixed the fan call and tell me that, despite there being other technicians working today, there was nothing they would be able to do for me until 1pm on Monday!!!! Sorry, when perishables are concerned, that's absolutely NOT ACCEPTABLE! Bottom line, my groceries will be spoiling while I'm at the whim of a repair service who couldn't care less and who will perhaps get to me sometime two days after their repair failed! ** Caution - Deceptive Business Practices - Hugely Overcharged ** Summary: Lied to by service technician and laughed at by "customer service". Charged $550 + taxes ($621.50 total) for a $20-$50 part (ignitor for oven) and 45 min. service call. Service tech left small box the part came in, with old part in it, we Googled the part number from box after he left (something just didn't seem right) and the value from all merchants online was $20 to $50 max. for what was clearly a readily available part. We then immediately called SOS office, as we assumed at first that SOS tech had made an error and confused part with something else more expensive. SOS rep on phone ridiculed our request for explanation/adjustment to charge and claimed they can "charge whatever they want" for service call. Tech was on site for 45 minutes total. Paid via portable interac machine. Bank informs they cannot help to get money back with that type of transaction. Recommends we pay via cheque for any/all contractor work in future. The Details: We contacted SOS Appliance Repair for repairs to a Viking 4-burner range/oven (one burner was not firing in the oven). We were informed by the lady who answered the phone that the service call would be "$80 + parts". They were able to come on the same day. Service tech (Tom - young guy from Middle East, identified himself as the "Head Service Tech for SOS") arrived on in the early evening of Sept. 28th Techician informed us after 15 minutes that the burner wasn't lighting because the ignitor needed to be replaced "It's quick and simple, but the part is VERY expensive - $950 for Viking ignitors...but I can help you out and give you a GE ignitor which will be just as good for only $550.." We expressed surprise at the amount but he insisted we had no other choice and reiterated that the part value of the least expensive ignitor was $550 dollars. Technician replaced the ignitor (took approx. 10 minutes), pulled out a portable Interac machine, took payment and left. He also left the box the part came in, containing the old part he had removed and the part number for the new part in large bold letters on the very small box, as well as the included very simple instructions on how to replace the ignitor. Something just didn't seem right, so we looked up the part number online and found it available from a wide range of retailers for anywhere from $20 to $50. We thought he must have made a mistake and had the part confused with something else. We called the SOS Appliance office immediately to bring to their attention the mistake and have the bill corrected and the lady with a British accent who answered the phone was shockingly rude and ridiculed us for calling. (Note: tech infomed us during service call the owner's wife answers the phone). SOS phone rep told us point blank that "We don't have an hourly rate and can charge whatever we want. You agreed to it, so too bad." SOS phone rep also advised that they would not provide a detailed/itemized breakdown of charges on receipt/invoice (currently says only "diagnose, labor, parts for Viking range" - we asked for itemized breakdown of bill to show us how they possibly could justify the charges). SOS phone rep laughed at our objections and told us we would not be getting any of our money back. We indicated we would be contacting our bank to attempt to have the charge reversed and she laughed again saying "Good luck! They're not going to be able to do anything for you." She was right, the bank launched an investigation, but were unable to credit the funds due to the use of the portable machine in the transaction (it's like giving someone cash from their perspective). Current Status: No response from SOS managemnet of any kind. Despite repeated attempts. The bank recommended we contact the police. We contacted the police and were directed to contact the Ministry of Consumer Services and the Better Business Bureau to file complaints, as it was a "civil matter". We have since filed complaints with both of these offices and are hopeful that they will be able to resolve the issue and convince SOS Appliance Repair to refund the bulk of our money. Value of service call was represented during phone booking as $80. Parts were $50 (max.), so we expect the billing should reflect $80 + $50 = $130 + taxes. We feel this is more than fair. Should Ministry of Consumer Services and BBB fail to resolve the issue, we will have no choice but to take SOS Appliance Repair to small claims court to contest the charges. read more

SOS are crooks.. stay away! Repair man didn't know a thing about my fridge. after 2 weeks of repeat visits, the freezer door was warped, the compressor was replaced with the wrong one. Its now god awful noisy. the repair guy burned the insulation inside as well as my wood floor. SOS also cracked the evaporator pan so now water leaks all over my kitchen (hardwood) floor. The unit was left not working and they will not return my calls. I have had to pull the fridge out of the cabinets and on to my wood floor to get a real repair guy to fix a leak caused by SOS! Terrible!!! Total scam. Came to fix my oven, ordered a part that was supposedly on back order and I had to wait 6 months for them to come install it. I kept calling and they never called back. Finally they came to install the part and it still did not work. I gave up and call someone else who fixed the problem. That person told me that they did not install any new part from what they can see and that there is no part that is worth as much as I paid. It is a total SCAM! They take a deposit for the part and then they plan that you give up calling so they can cash in but never do any work. If that happens to you can call Mastercard to contest the charge and they should be able to do so if it is in the last 4 months. read more

In addition! He forgot to bring freon and guessed as to the broken part without using a single investigative tool. Firstly, this is my only post online about service or products, but I felt a need to use this avenue to. Secondly, I spoke to the company who doesn't wish to change the outcome after I told them I couldn't believe how much we were charged, and thought there was an extra 'zero' added by mistake. Our stove wasn't keeping consistent heat and as a gas stove the typical problem is the igniter-- quick google search will tell you to clean or replace it. The company told me the part was $140 (I found online for $50) and that this was a senior technician-- with tax and a few minutes of time, the bill was over $900. This would value his time at $660... or $1200 per hour. My wife is at home with two babies and I was out of town. She did what she could to search online, and get it fixed. The technician was senior and helpful, but I feel like the company took advantage of my wife at home with two kids, who didn't know what the price should be. Lesson learned, and of course we will get three quotes and do more research next time. My wife feels terrible and embarrassed, and I feel even worse for not being able to help earlier and being taken advantage of ... I hope everyone can learn from this, as we have. read more

Call me stupid for using this company twice but they are one of the few who would service the kinds of machines I have in my business. I sent 5 emails regarding the complaint and no one followed up with any of them. I call in and they told me there was nothing that could be done regarding the bad service I got. First Time: I had a technician come by to check on two of my washing machines in my laundromat that were leaving clothes very wet at the end of the cycle because they were not spinning out. While the technician was very friendly and nice, I was not very impressed with the service I had to pay for. He took the front panels off both machines and had me run a cycle because he wanted to see what it would do during the spin cycle. About 3 minutes into the cycle, he said, "you know I'm 90% sure the problem here is with the 'Speed Board' because that is usually why it does this", then just decided he was pretty sure and didn't want to wait to find out. Then told me I could get new ones for about $400 plus $150 in labour for each machine. Then packed up his stuff. I had to put the front panels back on myself because the machines were still only about 5 minutes into the cycle and he wasn't going to wait. I wasn't impressed he only was guessing at the problem and still charged $90 for the service call. After he left I went online and discovered the actual name of the part he told me to replace was called the "Motor Control Board" and not what he had called it. Secondly I was able to buy the part I needed to replace, which he told me only consisted of undoing 2 screws and plugging the wire in, (not something that seems like $150 worth of labour for EACH machine). And the part I was able to buy was only $140 not the $400 he would charge for it. But the real kicker was the second machine, which he "guessed" had the same problem and suggested I pay $550 to fix, well it actually wasn't even broken! After he left I looked it over myself again and found out that one of the wires had come loose and simply needed to be plugged back in. Something he should have noticed if he had done an actual diagnostic I was paying for. All in all, he was there for 10 minutes at the most, grossly over quoted me, guessed what the problem might be, misnamed the part I needed and overlooked the real problem on one machine. Second Time: I had someone come to look at a coin operated dryer as the ignition control was not igniting the gas. I brought him to the machine and his first question to me was "is this a washing machine or a dryer". That is not something which installs confidence. I explained to him what the problem was and it was pretty clear he had never seen a machine like mine before but didn't admit he didn't know what he was doing, I had to show him how to take things apart and what the functions of each component were for and which ones I thought were malfunctioning. He then took a couple photos of some parts, charged me the $90 and left. I got a call from him the next day saying he wasn't going to be able to fix it. I ended up finding the parts I needed myself and fixed the machine myself. I have to say, for the second time in a row, it was a complete waste of time and a total waste of $80 and he really did nothing whatsoever to help me. This is going to be the last time I use this company. read more

My elderly mother called out SOS Appliance Repair on November 25th, to repair her washer/dryer. The technician charged her $430.00. She used her machine one single time, and when she attempted to use it a second time, three days later, it did not function again. She again called SOS Appliance Repair, and the technician, on the phone, said that it would be an additional $600 to repair it a second time, based on his estimation. For shame SOS Appliance Repair. At the first visit the repairman should have been decent enough to explain to my mother that it was a 22 year old machine and she should not spend a cent on repairing it, and should instead purchase a new machine set. Instead he charged her over $400 and then wanted to charge her an additional $600!!!!!! Where is his decency? Does this company make a point of taking advantage of the elderly? My mother was ready to spend over $1000 to repair a 22 year old machine........when she could have bought a new one for less than this. Where are his ethics? What kind of a company does this? I called SOS late on a Friday evening last December to repair my refrigerator and they were able to come within a couple of hours. A new starter motor was installed, I did think the price was high (almost $500) but I was happy that the fridge was working again. There was a 6 month warranty on the part. The fridge stopped again and I called SOS. I was assured someone would come that evening. No one showed. I called again and was told they would check with the serviceman and would get back to me. No one did. I called yet again, left a VM, and never heard back from them. It was evident to me that they did not intend to honour their guarantee. I called another company and it was pointed out to me, prior to any repair, that the starter motor that had been installed was a generic one, not intended to function with this model and usually only used as a diagnostic tool. I was warned that as a result it had probably shorted out the compressor, and sure enough, that was the case. The cost of a compressor and the compatible starter motor is so high that I was told I was better off buying a new refrigerator, which is what I had to do. My fridge was only 9 years old, and an expensive model, so needless to say I am not happy that SOS caused the ultimate failure of my refrigerator. I would not recommend them to anyone. They are obviously not an ethical company. Stay away, call someone else. read more

i paid $230 for one of their repairmen to come and clean out the filter, traps etc. he showed up when promised. after he was gone i noticed that the dishwasher kept falling out of its place in the cabinetry, tumbling forward when the trays were out even a little bit; obviously it was not re-installed properly. i called to complain and they said the repairman would be calling and would return to fix it. i never heard a thing for over ten days, and eventually had someone else attend who put in screws between the machine and cabinetry that had not been put back by the sos repairman. read more

If you are considering SOS Appliance Repair, do yourself a favour and think again. I would not recommend them to my worst enemy. I came across this company on the internet when my ice dispenser stopped working. What a big mistake. I wish I did some research before I called them. They gave me the standard price of $80 of diagnostic fee for the technician to come and see what the problem is and of course they tell you that the $80 is waived if you end up using their services. The technician showed up and said that the problem is with the motor. He would try to fix it for $260. he unscrewed the motor and put it back on (literally 10 min job), tried it and it worked with a weird noise. When I asked him, he said it's normal. He charged me $300 for 30 min of work. He left and when the ice bin filled up with ice, I tried it again but guess what??? it did not work. I called the company and left few messages and wrote them couple of emails to try to get this resolved but no one has got back to me. When the same Samsung dryer broke down 5-months later due to the same issue, it was a completely different story. The repaired part was out of warranty, and they couldn't provide an estimate without coming over and charging 80 bucks. I expressed that I thought the first repair was expensive, their response was that 'I didn't have to agree to the repair in the first place'. When pressed as to why the dryer is experiencing the same issue it had 5-months ago, Mike the repair guy suggested it was user error stating that, 'maybe you don't know how to use your dryer properly'. That's the gist of it. Needless to say, not the experience you'd hope for as a repeat customer. Clearly, they're in the business of charging as much as they can, because the notion of a 'customer for life' is irrelevant to them. I spoke to the head office about my soured experience, and they were indifferent. Clearly, I will not be using SOS appliance repair ever again, and I urge others to avoid them as well. read more
