Carers of Bromley is a charity that focuses primarily on the needs of the carer, as opposed to the person requiring care, and are a really useful source of information for everything from benefits to support services and beyond. They are funded in part by Bromley Local authority, so have good relations with departments there too. Although I've never used the support groups, I've found the short term sitters list extremely helpful and they even provide a limited volunteer service for the odd whole day off. It prides itself with very impressive statistics of not only placing women into high quality jobs, but also maintaining incredibly low re-offence rate among the women it assists in comparison to national statistics. I have recently had a chance to volunteer for this charity at Holloway Prison for an interviewing coaching session, and I recommend the experience to everyone. The team was very welcoming and very well organised, and the entire session ended up being beneficial experience both for the convicted women seeking input on their interviewing skills and for the volunteers. These kind of grassroot organisations who have the guts to go out there, do the nitty gritty work and chance the societal and employers' attitudes one success at the time are exactly the kind of organisations which deserve more shoutouts and more support. I recommend connecting with this charity to anyone seeking an interesting and fulfilling volunteering experience.
