I got my hair cut by Giovanni, who spoke English and told me that he's been cutting hair there for 33 years. He was fast, very skilled, and did a great job on my haircut. One of the things that I loved the most came at the end, when he outlined my haircut with a disposable razor and warm shaving cream, you don't get this in hair salons! They also offer to wash your hair after the haircut so you can leave completely clean. At $18 plus tip for the men's haircut, I consider it a good price for a great service. It took me a while to find a real old-school barbershop in Montreal and I'm sticking to it. So if you're looking for real barbers who aren't afraid to wave around a real blade and chat with Italian charisma, this is the place to go. P.S. If you need to wait your turn, I recommend going for an espresso at the Italian bar next door.

Booking an appointment was easy and a smooth process. They booked me in for the time slot I was free and told me I would get Sacha. Got there for my haircut and met Sacha. We discussed the photos I had saved and the look I was going for at length and he was very patient and responsive! We agreed on a style and he gave me exactly the same look I was going for!!! I was very nervous, as my hair is complicated to cut. I have always had very thick, curly and long hair and was worried going in, but he promised that was his favourite type to cut. While the experience here was fine, the outcome was... well, underwhelming. I chose this place after it came up multiple times in a Google search for "black hair barbershop." Let me first start by saying the place is trendy. It's nice - nice decor, very nice barbers. I assume that the barber who cut my son's hair had little experience with my son's hair texture. When he began to cut my son's hair, he went at it like he was trimming hedges - picking it out and going at it with scissors, picking it out and going at it with scissors. Now perhaps that's a way to typically cut black hair but my son has very tight ringlets so every time he picked it out, it recoiled... unevenly and so each cut to each section was uneven. We couldn't really tell in the dimly lit barber shop but when we got outside in the light there were very long pieces, holes and gaps. It was a bit of a mess. My husband and I were quite upset about it. The next day, we put our son in the tub, wet his hair and cut it again ourselves to get it even. Like, I said, my son is 2 so I didn't expect him to come out with the flyest haircut but I did expect something better than what we could have done at home, with no barber experience. To the barber's credit, he was personable and very patient with my son. I just don't think he's cut hair like my son's before. In closing, if you have straight hair or are black and prefer a cut with clippers, then perhaps this a good place for you. If you've got curls or anything that deviates from "typical" keep looking.
