Common courtesy and communication would be appreciated. Instead, one is dismissed, for days, weeks or longer. No matter how busy an organization or business is at any given moment, the proper thing to do is respond to someone, at least for a few moments to inform someone when you would have more time with which to speak to them regarding any concerns. It seems, outside of their work hours, all this organization makes time for is their facebook page, without regard for anyone who has reached out to them with questions or concerns. Good people doing good work. We have had our cats for almost 5 years now. We also donate regularly to them.

ZERO stars. We went for a spay and they left something behind. She bled for 2 months after and spots every 6 months. This happened 1.5 years ago and she continues to bleed every 6 months. The day I went there they had 20 surgeries I believe that day?! Of course it was botched. Do not take your pets to the vet here!!!! read more

While I've just begun my adoption process with Soul Dogs, they have been extremely helpful and responsive. I do not work with or am affiliated with Soul Dogs, and this is not a paid review. Soul Dogs advocates for the animals, and they absolutely should! They answer my questions to the best of their knowledge and quickly respond. I trust Soul Dogs to help me find my forever animal. I believe Soul Dogs is diligently finding the right match between dog breeds and prospective pet owners. It's not an easy process, as they want to ensure that the dogs are not re-homed, sent to a shelter, or put in harmful situations like dog fighting rings. They seem to be asking all the right questions. Being an investigator, I would suggest expanding their application, asking harder/in-depth questions to rule out potentially irresponsible people more easily. The negative reviews of Soul Dogs seem to be people who didn't do their breed research or have unrealistic expectations of animal ownership. If there's an issue, it's not with the rescue or the dog, but rather with the irresponsible and uninformed pet owners. I'll be sure to update my review after my adoption is complete. Lastly, if you do NOT have the time to research the breed, are looking for the animal cuteness factor for Facebook reels, do not have a suitable environment for an animal, are frequently away from home, are overcommitted with obligations, can't say no to your children, or do not have the financial means to care for the animal or pay for training and expensive surgeries or illness ** ON YOUR DIME ** (not using GoFundMe donation money), then you should NOT get an animal or have a child (or multiples of). I adopted my best bud Kai from Soul Dog about 3 and a half years ago and he has made my life better every day since I had submitted an application online to Soul Dog, came by without an appointment about a week later. I was able to meet a few pups and take them out for a walk to get a sense of their energy outside their kennels. They had Kai with his two 'brothers' in sort of a tiny house with doggie doors that allowed the pups to move inside and outside at will. I was able to bring him back to finishing up the vaccines he hadn't quite finished at a very reasonable rate and would happily adopt a second dog from them when I'm able to transition to a two dog house hold read more

I adopted a cat from here and they agreed to do foster to adopt with it being refundable. I unfortunately had to bring the cat back because our other cat wasn't eating and wasn't very open to the idea of a friend anymore. They also wanted us to bring her back for a rabies shot and told her our adoption wasn't even legal until we did that, and we don't live close so we didn't want to bring her back for that then do it again if it didn't work out. When we brought her back, they said they'd do a $125 refund (out of $200) and I didn't argue it because I was upset about having to bring her back and emotionally drained and the girl at the front desk was initially really rude about it, and we both felt like she was judging us for it not working out. We told her it just wasn't going to work out with our cat, and she actually asked if we wanted to take another cat home. No? I just said my cat is the problem. I left my PayPal email and thought that was it. In the WEEKS since then, we've called, left a voicemail, and I even reached out on their website to no response. My husband finally got ahold of them today and they said they'd call back for the info then refund. Instead, I received a $125 refund on PayPal. We were going to insist on the full $200 as a) we never LEGALLY adopted the cat as they aren't organized enough to know she lacked a rabies shot and b) we've been waiting on this refund for weeks and I've spent various days calling every few hours throughout the day. I was really hopeful about this place which is why I went the extra distance to adopt there, but the place is unclean and the whole experience felt like a scam. I didn't even get a copy of our written agreement on the foster to adopt situation, which was really weird to not include and we didn't notice before bringing her home. Everyone was nice when we went to adopt, but the girl at the desk when we brought her back was so condescending and rude, and I really can't believe she tried getting us to take home another cat we'd have to bring back because our cat was the problem. read more

I wanted to start fostering and volunteering at an animal shelter and I am so happy I found Soul Dog. They do so much more than just adopt out adorable puppies and kittens. They are making a difference in the overwhelming stray population in the Four Corners area, by holding spay/neuter and vaccination clinics in that area. If you are looking to add a new member to your family, I highly recommend Soul Dog. They have so many great animals, and with each adoption they are able to save another life on the reservation. read more

Customer service is terrible. It's covid so I get there's a wait, but we stood in line and let them know we were here yet other families went in ahead of us and were seen first. Mind you, it's first come first serve. When I asked about it I was just told "there are multiple families in front of you" oookay. Talking to the people here alone is depressing. Nobody seems happy. You'd think getting these dogs homes would be priority number one but they all seem miserable and expect everyone who had been waiting to just wait all day. I drove over an hour to come here, and I donate to them through Amazon smile... safe to say we won't be back and my Amazon smile donations will go to another foundation that's deserving. I overheard another couple trying to adopt and they said the dog didn't seem to trust them and it was very nervous and the woman working said it'll pass. WHAT!! Don't force a dog on a home with people it doesn't like! But I guess anything is better than this disaster of a place. Side note I have a toddler with me... way to not bring a smile to a child's face. 0 out of any amount of stars is more than what they deserve. We left with him screaming "I want my doggie!!!" I think the Soul Dog mission is good. I am very in favor of providing a good home to a rescue. However, the adoption process at Soul Dog is terrible. We met with a foster with Soul Dog who brought puppies to our home for us to evaluate. There was no communication with us, despite us asking the right questions on whether the puppy could go to a different home, that lead us to believe the puppy we loved wasn't going to be an option for us. Our kids became very attached and after the evaluation, we felt like this pup was going to be a lovely addition to our family. A few days later, we were informed that the pup was going to a different family. At first, there was no explanation why, our application had no red flags, we are all at home all the time. There was no consideration, after the fact, for how this impacted us or that there was any kind of miscommunication on the part of the foster. If you have sensitive children or other family or are sensitive yourself, there are better rescue options out there. Soul Dog does not care about you or your family. read more

This is an amazing organization with amazing people. We have fostered numerous dogs from this shelter and have always had great experiences. When seeing negative reviews, it's important to understand that the shelter is VERY short staffed and made up mostly of volunteers. I would give 0 stars if I could. This place is an absolute joke. I came here on Christmas Eve to try and adopt a dog, and was denied. I came with all of the things there website said is required, and they rejected me because I didn't have a "Letterhead" letter from my property management company saying it was ohk to have another dog, even though our lease specifically says we are allowed to have dogs. We drove an hour to get there, and brought our dog to meet the dog we wanted to adopt. Overall, couldn't be more disappointed. Would not recommend this joke of a place. read more

We met a puppy from here and my kids fell in love with it. We were told it would be ours if the application was OK. The volunteer thought we were a good fit and our current dog was a good fit. The volunteer was even excited that the new puppy was trying to do what our current dog was doing. Everything seemed great. I've gone over the conversation now dozens of times in my head along with my kids and husband. It's like they led us to believe the puppy was going to be ours. One of my kids even asked if we could still lose the puppy and the volunteer made it sound like it was ours and we could pick it up Monday. A couple of days later they told us they found a 'better fit' with another family and that we should just come in and adopt a different dog?! Apparently, they just give the dogs to whoever they want if there is more than one person/family who wants the same one. This being even after they check you out and tell you the dog is going to be yours. If someone comes in after and they like something about them or their situation better, the pet they told you that you would get will go to them. I'd assume it works this way with cats also. I like the idea of getting a rescue pet, but there's no reason it should be traumatic for the people thinking of doing the adopting! Definitely a warning to other parents. Your kids might end up very disappointed here. The supervisor was very rude when we tried to explain what happened. I was hoping maybe they could guarantee we'd get a different dog if we were willing to try it again ever, but nope. That's how they do things and they could care less if you or your kids end up devastated. It's too bad no one there is willing to tell the potential customers or we could have avoided the whole disaster of the situation. Even just telling us this policy first would have made all the difference. The reality of what could happen was very poorly communicated. The supervisor could not admit even that so I'm sure it would happen to someone else too if a similar situation came up again. My kids are so upset they still don't even want to talk about the idea of adopting another puppy. I don't think we'd ever try to adopt again even though we really like the idea of it. I like the idea of taking care of my kids' well being too and that's definitely not aligned with how they go about things here. read more

Our cat had a congenital liver disease. $6000 and 2 years later he died of fatal liver failure at age 3. We were told at the time of adoption that a comprehensive evaluation, including testing for COVID was done. This was not the case or his illness would have been caught at that time. In addition to the exorbitant price of caring for him, there is the extreme emotional tole on my elderly mother who was his primary caregiver. read more

Then they'll ignore your app and take the dig to an event and adopt it to someone they don't know anything about. Hard pass and that's sad to say as I'm a veterinary nurse. read more

If anyone has noticed, Covid has brought out the people who complain a lot. So sorry your lives are so miserable. This is also an extremely difficult time for businesses. Finding employees is impossible. Trying to keep every single person who walks in the door happy is even harder. Rather than caring for you whiney humans, their top priority is the animals that were ready for euthanization, abandoned, left to die in the cold with their puppies. Sometimes this is a very overwhelming need. If you are there to help an animal in need, great! Yes, they're scared. No, most have never had a positive human experience. If you love animals, you know what to do. If you don't, this is not the place for you. These animals will be the most loyal, dedicated animals AFTER you get them out of a shelter and into a loving home. Get on the site and actually read about these animals backgrounds- none come from loving homes. That's your job to teach them that. This is very similar in fostering humans! They come to you dirty, scared and with nothing except emotional scars. Be a decent human and try to help if you see a problem. I saw an issue, volunteer and foster to try to help, not make it worse by hitting up social media and letting the world know how bad your poor little life is. read more
