I love Rocky Mountain Puppy Rescue! I adopted an 8 week hound puppy at RMPR's very first adoption event 13 years ago, and I just adopted a beautiful 4 month old Mountain Cur/Lab pup from them. Both times, the entire experience was fantastic. I got all the info I needed from their website (https://www.rmpuppyrescue.org/), and completed an application online. The RMPR volunteers at the adoption event were all very friendly and helpful. I visited with "Nora" and her sister individually and together, and the checkout process was seamless. I had no idea that this pup would come fully loaded! Her foster family clearly spent a lot of time with her litter. She was potty-trained, crate-trained, leash-trained, and knows sit, down, and stay (within limits, of course). She chews her toys, but not shoes or power cords. Next week we'll round out her training with a Life Skills class through the Humane Society of Boulder Valley. Nora was already fully vaccinated, spayed, and wormed through RMPR. My vet said that she is in great shape. She's really smart and fun, and has taken to the trails like a fish to water. My favorite time of day is watching a movie in the evening as she curls up next to/on top of me. This puppy is exactly what I was looking for!

After a few months when our 14 year old border collie passed away, my fiancé and I started discussing having another dog in our life again. We discussed older dog versus puppy and knew we wanted to rescue. I went through petfinder and quickly came across the Rocky Mountain Puppy Rescue. There we found a photo of a border collie mix named Phantom and knew we wanted to add her to our family. Please note my review comes from our adoption of January 2020 prior to COVID-19 and the changed procedures that followed. Based off previous reviews I noted that a lot of people mentioned how long the line became and highly recommended coming early to ensure you got your first pick. We got there about 6:20 am and luckily no one was there yet so we were the first in line! We did fill out the online application a few days before we arrived to the event. We were also sure to bring other applicable paperwork as requested. I appreciated the interview process to ensure she'd be a good fit, they were pretty attentive to her breed (border collie=high energy) and making sure we could meet those needs. Their questions made me feel like they really did care and want to have their dogs to be set up for success when they go home. I really appreciate all the time and effort they put into rescuing and finding foster homes. They also talked me through her vaccines, training, and her current food. Honestly, I am so happy they do their interview and application process for the benefit of the puppies. They really want these pups to go to good homes! Also their dogs and puppies come with a bit of their current food, microchipped, and up to date on their vaccines as well as spayed or neutered. I really admire the work they do and hope they can continue their work! I highly recommend this rescue if you want to consider adding a new fur friend to your life! I also talked to the director and she was incredibly passionate and caring! Here is some pictures of Phantom since named Fiadh. She is the sweetest and we are so happy we got chosen to be her forever home.

I couldn't say enough great things about this rescue. Not only are the volunteers so kind and knowledgeable, but they are super willing to take a chance on loving potential adopters like myself. I am 24 (was 23 when going to get my dog) and went to another rescue first after I had my heart set on a photo of a puppy that I thought had to be mine. After being declined by the rescue for living in an apartment, I was completely devastated. My boyfriend encouraged me to go to another adoption event, and led me to RMPR. After reassuring the volunteers that I would be able to bring a puppy into a loving home, I ended up with my sweet girl, Lily. I still don't know what breed Lily is, but she is a little snuggly, adventurous, energetic dog that keeps me so active and well-accompanied. I couldn't have done it without this rescue. 12/10 recommend.

This rescue is amazing! I adopted my puppy from them on September 19th, his name was Lox but I renamed him Strider. His foster family did an amazing job with him as he was already house broken and crate trained! He's the sweetest little thing and extremely intelligent. He's also in superb health and very well socialized. They definitely have a detailed adoption process and only want the best homes for their pups. If you're serious about adopting from them, make sure to arrive early and bring everything you need ! Especially if a certain pup has caught your eye, the only people I've seen unhappy are those who aren't serious or prepared. I recommend this rescue to every person who asks about Strider and where I got him, they made the adoption journey so joyous!

First Impression // As one of the few rescues within driving distance of Lakewood that had corgi mixes available for adoption, my husband and I were excited. This was my first time adopting a pet, so I have no previous rescues to compare RMPR to. Convoluted Adoption Event (Jan. 23, 2016 at Petco Arvada) // Given that my husband and I typically sleep in on Saturdays, we made sure to arrive on time to the event. We were naïve; there were already 10 to 15 people in line. When we finally met the puppies after a hour or so, we were torn between getting to know the puppy and being quizzed by a volunteer. I felt like it might have been more fruitful to be asked questions while waiting in line because I wanted to focus on making a connection with a potential furry family member. After meeting the dogs, we waited at least 20 minutes to find out if we would go home with our first choice. It was nerve-racking to not know if we would go home with either of the two puppies we met; at this point it had already been two hours. Finally, we found out Livingston (now known as Zwei) would be going home with us. We were invited by a staff member of RMPR to sit at a table with other adopters to finalize the process. We were give a free bag of food, as well as a coupon book to use at Petco. 3.5 hours later we left for home. Miscommunication // A day or so after the adoption event, we noticed that Zwei was very lethargic and had diarrhea. Being cautious my roommate, a vet tech, took him in to work with her to be examined and tested. The tests came back positive for the parvovirus. Knowing that this virus is highly contagious and capable of killing puppies, I contacted RMPR because Zwei was a member of a litter of puppies at the adoption. I wanted to make sure the other pet parents of his siblings knew his diagnosis so that they could choose to take their new family members ASAP to the vet. It took SEVERAL attempts before someone at RMPR responded; this is discouraging given that survival after contracting parvo typically depends on how quickly fluids can be administered. TL;DR // The adoption form is extensive, the adoption event could be refined, and communication is lacking. Try to obtain the pet parent info (with consent) if your puppy is part of a litter. Arrive as early as possible to ensure the highest probability of going home with the dog you want.

Life can be a very lonely, socially and interpersonally distant experience. In my case, I had to relocate from the East coast to Denver to serve full time in a career position. I left my family behind for a couple years, only able financially to fly home once a month for a couple days. And then came along and opportunity of a lifetime. A little puppy cared for with tremendous dedication, delicacy and pure love from a caregiver I've never even met. The day I went to meet this puppy, the rocky mountain puppy rescue did an extremely careful job of vetting prospective adoption parents. It was love at first sight! This little buddy went sniffing around the greeting area for not even four minutes took a decided nap on my lap for 20 minutes and the rest of course was history!

I rescued my puppy today from Rocky Mountain puppy rescue. We named him ranger and he has been amazing, he's full of puppy energy but such a cuddle bug as well. The adoption event was not as hectic as most reviews might suggest. Yes, there's are large groups of people spread throughout the store but they're organized. I showed up around 6:50am since I had a specific dog in mind. I ended up being second in line out of maybe 35-40 people. It's mostly just waiting in line then waiting for your name to be called to move on to each step. It is a long day but it's all very exciting. Time flew by in my mind. I made a list of my top three choices. Unfortunately the first person in line had the same top pick as I did. I was able to see my next two picks and actually ended up choosing my third choice. After I chose a puppy, I was moved to the information table where we received any paperwork necessary, coupons, etc. This is also where we payed and received a copy of our receipt. The volunteers explained where the puppies comes from, what they do as a rescue, and how thankful they are. We were then able to take our puppy home. Most people did shopping at Petco for puppy supplies then picked up their puppy. They check your receipt to confirm you paid and then you're off! I was out of the event around maybe 2pm. I do recommend showing up early, there were about five people in line by 9am. If you have a specific puppy in mind or just want to be first in line, you may want to show up around 5:30-6:30 am. The adoption price is very fair for what you're receiving plus they give an entire booklet of coupons and discounted professional training. I would absolutely go back to rescue another dog.

My wife and I had been going to the RMPR events for the last few weeks. The volunteers were really nice and helpful at each event and informed us of the adoption process and what we needed to do if we wanted a specific dog. We were told to arrive at the adoption event 3-4 hours early, especially if there were puppies, which are high demand at these events. My wife and I took their advice and requested off of work and arrived at the Broomfield Petco at 1pm for the 6pm event. We were the first ones to arrive and was happy because we knew we would be able to meet and possibly adopt our first puppy! Sadly, at 5:50pm, the event host showed up and made an announcement to the crowd. He said " Listen up! If you are here to see the litter beginning with the letter "B" (which we were there to see a puppy named Bear, a Border Collie/Australian Shepherd Mix), they will not be at the event. Sorry, this is last minute, but I just received the call." With this, I assumed that RMPR would do the right thing and ask for the names of the people who waited in line for the litter and see if there was a way that they could make us first priority when the litter is released. Instead, the host moved on with the adoption process and didn't acknowledge us. I then sent an email to the Co-Founder, Emma Shin, about our situation in hopes she would be understanding and willing to make an exception to their holding policy for this reason. Her response was shocking. I would have thought she would have been understanding and showed empathy for us since the puppies were advertised on all of their social media accounts, but instead, she informed me of other rescues around the area and wished me luck on my search for my next companion. I honestly feel that this is unprofessional of an organization to just say "sorry, you are out of luck!" after spending 5 hours waiting at a Petco for a puppy that was advertised for the event. I have never been more embarrassed and upset after this process. The saddest part about this is that this was going to be our first puppy! I would advise anyone adopting from this organization to know what you are getting yourself into if ever in this situation. I just wish that people would be fair and understanding when situations like this come up. Leroy

We got our little guy almost three years ago now from RMPR and I wanted to take a minute to share how great the organization is. I absolutely appreciate the rigor of the adoption process, and the fact that someone can't just walk in and adopt a puppy at one of the adoption events without a screening, application, and interview process. There are too many dogs in shelters because owners are ill-prepared and ill-equipped to provide puppies the time, behavior management skills, and space they need to be successful! I was sad to hear about the incident that happened with a sick puppy at a recent adoption event and I can attest to the professionalism of this organization, and the dedication of the staff to ensure the best outcomes for the dogs in their care.

Though the adoption process is long (including a 9 page application, review of app, match-up with a dog, home visit, and finally the actual adoption process), it is so worth it, because for the price of the dog (which varies depending on the age/ability of the dog you are adopting), you get: spay or neuter, vaccinated for distemper/parainfluenza/parvovirus vaccine, deworming, microchip, a 1 hour personal training session or a professional training course at a Shiba Scout Rescue approved facility and senior dogs 7 years or older will also be given a dental if necessary. What I loved most about adopting through the rescue is that we received our dog already knowing that he would be good with our cats and with kids, when we decide to start a family. They keep the dogs for a time to observe them so they can give you a general idea of what kind of dog you are getting. While it is a longer process than adopting a dog through an animal shelter or humane society, I think it is so much more worth it because you already know the dog's personality (for the most part), and whatever problems may arise can be solved through the training course provided in the adoption fee.

I turned in a stray dog that I was going to adopt if her previous owner didn't come forward. Based on her teeth, face, and personality, she appeared to be less than a year old. Unfortunately, I later discovered that she was pregnant, and after having a stillborn puppy in there care , she became understandably depressed and stopped eating. It's well documented that such traumatic experiences can lead to reactivity in dogs THAT YOU CAN WORK PAST . it was clear upon finding her that she had been abused skinny and scard of dogs and people , a concern I explicitly expressed to the Humane Society staff. What infuriated me the most was their decision to euthanize her as she was there for less then 4 weeks without informing us, stating reactivity and aggression not exploring any of the other rehabilitating options THEY HAVE to keep this yung dog alive . This felt not only unprofessional but also unethical, especially given the provisions of the Colorado Animal Rights Act, which emphasizes the humane treatment of animals. This decision is particularly egregious considering that, in the week I cared for her before turning her in, her reactivity stemmed purely from fear, a natural response to her past trauma and current situation and through out all that she loved kids . She was a scared, young animal in need of care, not a death sentence. I am beyond disappointed with the lack of communication and compassion shown in this situation. To add insult to injury, they have been ignoring my phone calls. When I did manage to speak with someone, the woman on the phone was incredibly rude, speaking to me as if I were a child and twisting my words to justify their decision to euthanize a dog whose life could have been saved. They took a life that deserved to live. Animals deserve better, she deserved better. I hope that by sharing this experience, the Humane Society will reflect on their practices and improve upper management because clearly this decision was made out of pure laziness The avoidable loss of this dog's life is a profound failure on their part. I am the way they are in the way. They handled this whole thing. I'm very hatred for the staff that decided to go through with this and not speak up.

They decided to back out gave him to another family Long My wife and I made the wonderful decision to want to grow our family this year. We have been looking for dogs for awhile. After much deliberation and research, we decided an Italian Greyhound would be an excellent fit for the many needs of our little family. We spent time searching for an Italian Greyhound we could rescue, even contacting breed-specific rescues. Even though we are ideal applicants, we were told that these rescues are not receiving the same influx of greyhounds they used to, and we would be waiting YEARS if we were even lucky enough to get one at all. Within 24 hours of this correspondence with this other rescue, they contacted us. They said they had information of an Italian greyhound coming to the state through a different rescue. We were so grateful for their help and felt this was a special, clandestine experience we were having to grow our family. We placed our applications in minutes, called to confirm our family's application, and after a week of waiting I received a call that we were selected. This meant the whole world to our small family and felt like a calling from the universe. Instead, I received radio silence the next day... and was then followed by an email that they would be instead giving the dog to another family , even after we confirmed that we were selected. Why? Because another family (the foster) apparently was more deserving. What a heartbreaking decision by this company. After we have done everything right... the long hours of research, the arduous application, all the hard things to just simply want to grow our family taken away. How can an organization choose to get people's hopes up and break their hearts by saying we "made it"... only to just take it away. It isn't right or fair.

Max Fund and plenty of others, are far more reasonable and easier to communicate with and meet the animals in need. Adopters be warned.

Today I attempted to attend an adoption event in Ft Collins put on by this group ... ANIMAL FRIENDS…read moreALLIANCE. I will not make that mistake again. First, you are not even allowed to just look (not talking about touch) at the animals without completing an application. So I did that. I was looking for a dog/puppy, not a cat and I told them that upfront. When I completed my application I devulged that my cat does not have front claws ... that is when the trouble started. They could not get past that! I currently have a dog and am looking to adopt another (I lost my other dog to illness last year). The lady reviewing the applications proceeded to lecture me on all the options other than declawing. I told her we exhausted those options, it was a decision not made lightly with input from my vet. So that means now I am a person that plans to alter every animal I get??? That is what she inferred. She told me they were going to mark my application that I must sign a contract when adopting a cat (oh by the way, did I not say I was not looking to adopt a cat?). I said fine, then went to look at the pups. She followed me down the isle and continued to rant about cats and wanted me to sign something she was going to add to my file! Enough already! I told her I respect that she has a different view about declawing, she needed to just let it be as I was not looking to adopt another cat. She wouldn't, so when it was obvious other attendees in the store were starting to listen to our conversation, I told her to just throw out my application because I had no intention of staying and listening to her rant any longer. With that I left the store. But that is not the entire story ... the dogs/pups that they did have (very few by the way for an adoption event) all appeared to be Pit bull mixes. So now there is another topic of heated opinion! Beings they have actually been banned in the state a couple of times! I could have ranted on that one given all the children that are attacked and killed by Pit bulls every year! but I didn't go there. I realize many people love the Pit Bull breed. It is not my place to inflict my opinion on them and expect them to accept it as their own. My point thru all of this is the interest of this group is primarily focused on cats, that was very clear. There were lots of kittens there. If this group truly cares about all animals getting good homes they should not be inflicting their beliefs on perspective adopters. Having the initial conversation and putting it on the table is fine, but drop it after that! She will never convince me that for my situation that my cat not having front claws was a bad choice. But she was not interested in the reasons, just harassing me! Obviously not all reputable veterinarians agree with their beliefs or they would not be performing the procedure. There are situations (as with mine) that this is the better choice verses either putting the cat in a homeless situation, or worse.

I live in Denver but a neighbor recommended I make the drive to Ft…read more Collins to have AFA neuter my pup. So glad I did! Not only are they extremely affordable but they are extremely professional and friendly!!! Everything is curbside service, they have exceptional communication, and they even follow up to check on your fur baby. They are the best!!!!
