Two gentlemen came to pick up our donations. They were right on schedule, friendly and efficient.

My daughter and I were volunteers at Soul's Harbor for a few hours. We were there to put together care kits for homeless men. We left with an "awareness" of a world we knew nothing about before today, feeling thankful for this program and inspired to 'spread the word' about this organization and their mission. Since 1956, Soul's Harbor has been a recovery community for homeless men located in southeast Dallas, Texas. They are members of the National Association for Addiction Professionals (NAAP) and the Texas Association of Addiction Professionals (TAAP). Soul's Harbor offers the latest in substance abuse treatment with their new 6-month program that is also offered by the premier treatment centers but without the expensive cost. They have Work Therapy, Relapse Prevention, Overcomers (faith based 12 step), Life Skills, N.A. and A.A., Anger Management, and Bible Study. Soul's Harbor states: "If a man utilizes the tools that have been provided him within these six months, he should leave Soul's Harbor with a job and a place to live." We had the pleasure of meeting Reggie who is the Assistant Director who was once homeless and in treatment at Soul's Harbor himself. Reggie delivered a heartfelt presentation basically saying there are two paths you can walk: faith or fear. He knows because he has lived it himself. With gratitude, he shares his passion for helping other men like himself, and he believes that this program can be so much more if he could reach a larger audience. I had an apparent scheduling problem with Soul Harbor not once but twice! The first time they came on the wrong day and we were not at home. The second time they showed up 4 hours early (I work nights). I love the cause behind this place but they obviously have a communication problem with the schedulers and the drivers for pick up. Its a shame as I'm in the process of clearing out a storage unit and had so many boxes and bags of clothes, shoes and household things. read more

We have used Soul's Harbor 2 times, so far. They are so accomodating! Please call them with donations first. -1st time, we donated an antique sofa & chair. PINK!! Although they did not take the sofa, because it had a tear in the back, the chair was donated. Their employees were overly gracious, kind and expedient! -2nd time, we donated everything left over from our yard sale. I mean we had so much. They took bags of clothing, household items: knick-knacks, curtains, rods, small furniture, table & chairs, childrens items & furniture, dishes, desks, and on... The 2 guys that were sent out were so kind, curteous and grateful. They were humping it in & out of our garage, back & forth to their truck. I mean they were moving. It was the end of their day & their truck had a day-full of donations. They rearranged stuff in order to get all of ours on it. The truck left with furniture tied literally to the bumper, door open!! I wholly recommend these guys. If I could I would hire them for our next move!! read more

Just donated a queen mattress/box spring, dresser, 2 large bags of clothes, a box of men's suits, a dining room table with 2 chairs, a living room table with HEII heavy glass top, dinner plates with drinking glasses, & a 45 inch retro flat screen tv. The 2 dudes- Chaz & Edward were expedient, careful, & requested NO money- shoot, they wouldn't even take the sodas I offered to cool down from working in Texas heat. Chaz blew my mind when he lifted & carried the glass table top- solo from my second floor apartment to their truck. HOLY CRAP...Bravo! Thank you Brent, for what you devote of your life & energy to this place & thank you/good luck to all the MEN who are trying to pull their sh!t together & enter back into Sobriety. Ps. If you have things that they refuse to take, it may be because they are overstocked on those things, do not sell those things, they may not be in a usable/sellable condition, or just have no demand for that stuff. I've seen their "hold area" for donated items. It's like most thrift shoppes- they do have a limit on space/need. read more

wanted to donate a dining table and chairs. the table had a few scratches and the chair cushions were a bit worn, but in good condition. When they came to the house, they actually refused, saying they weren't in good condition. wow, ridiculous, as they were in good condition. I ended up selling them, so it was my gain, but can't believe a thrift store would be so picky, passing up decent furniture that somebody could have really used. would recommend places other than this from now on read more

Donated some bedding and furniture to Soul's Harbor recently. The guys worked so hard to pick everything up and moved to the truck. They were very pleasant and easy to work with. Will call them again when I have donations. read more

I was assaulted by two of the staff members there. If you go there for rehab, be aware of Darek and Shaun. They should be fired, and honestly arrested in a perfectly fair world for what they did. They have very fragile egos, and they will assault you if they feel disrespected. Literally, the two ganged up on me simply for mouthing off. Not only utterly unprofessional, but illegal. Do not go here for rehab services. They do not know what they're doing. They are not trained in dealing with someone who's having a crisis, and they cannot put their egos aside for the greater good of helping people. Instead, they will assault you and cover it up. Even kicking you out and telling Householder later that you left voluntarily so we couldn't get out money back, which I didn't know only Householder could kick us out. Which makes me think there is a broader scam going on. Not a good place. They look good on the outside, but evil tends to veil itself in a cloak of moral upstand. Plus, you will be sick all the time. I had a cough for the entire two months I was there. Literally called "Soul's Harbor Cough", by someone there. There are better budget rehabs you can go to that aren't likely scams and won't get you in a perpetual state of sickness. read more
