I had no problem with my ultrasound technicians (always lovely people), but Souma Diagnostics retains an abysmally-run billing service. I advise anyone who does get a bill from Souma Diagnostics to look on your insurance portal where you can view claims for the dates specified in your bill (it won't register as Souma Diagnostics, it may come up as a doctor's name instead). Your insurer should indicate what insurance covered and what, if anything, is left for you to pay for each service. It should also specify that you shouldn't be charged over a certain amount for each service. In my case, I was over-billed almost $300 (with the signature "PAST DUE" stamp on my statement). That December 2018 statement was actually the first bill I received from Souma for services provided from November 2017 until March of 2018. I tried calling the number of the billing vendor (no answer). I called Souma directly and told them I couldn't get ahold of their billing service. Souma called the billing service and told me they had no trouble getting through so I hung up with Souma and called the vendor, who, surprise! actually answered. I explained some discrepancies in my bill according to the information on my insurance website. They did not disagree with me and I ended up paying what I was meant to pay instead of the inflated amount my statement showed. Don't let a shoddy billing service ruin your day! Contact Souma directly and tell them if they want to receive payment for services rendered, they need to find a more competent vendor to generate accurate statements. read more

Same as the other reviews; I received a bill that said I owed over $300. I contacted my insurance company that told me Souma Diagnostics had been paid the agreed amount and I owed a $20 copay. I've now received another bill from this company for $55. Per my insurance company, I actually owe this amount of money but have called the billing department multiple times to pay and never get a call back. I must say, the ultrasound technicians are great; however, they don't deal with the money aspect of the company. read more

I got sick to my stomach when I read all of these reviews because I am currently dealing with the exact same issue. Despite the fact Souma made photo copies of my insurance card when I went in for an ultra sound, they submitted a claim with the wrong group number. I received a $640 bill back for the ultra sound I got in March. I called my insurance company and they had no record of these services. They called Souma, a rep said they were missing ONE letter in my group number and would resubmit the claim. Fast forward to this morning, I received another bill for $640. Called my insurance company - they said Souma never resubmitted the claim. Insurance called Souma again, a representative explained that they mixed up the first 3 letters. This is completely different than what we were told the first time. Now I began to panic because each time I tried to call Souma, nobody picked up the phone and after reading these reviews online I feared that they would report me to collections. I made over 20 attempts to get someone on the phone and so did my insurance company however this company does not pick up. I became extremely frustrated because my insurance company told me there was nothing they could do until Souma resubmitted the claim. I ended up sending a letter that included all of my attempted calls and documented each time my insurance company reached out. I sent the invoice back to them including my corrected group number and insurance info. It's obvious that this billing department is SHADY AF. Good thing all of the calls my insurance company made to them were recorded because I am fully prepared to take legal action against them if they report me to collections. Yep, also having trouble with their billing. Apparently they got rid of their third-party billing company and are doing it in-house, but they're still not doing it right. They've sent us numerous duplicate bills that we've already paid. On a separate bill, they also used the wrong Tax ID number (TIN) to bill the insurance company, which says it's out of network, even though they accept my insurance. They don't answer their phone to help with this stuff but they are very nice and apologetic if you show up in person. However, I've shown up in person and I'm still struggling to get this bill (over $2,000) paid by my insurance. read more

SHADY BILLING!!!!! They told me for over 2 years the bill was not accurate but they keep sending it!!! RIDICULOUS

My OB uses this organization for in-office ultrasounds, and I am absolutely APPALLED by their behavior. I received an ultrasound back in September. Apparently, after my insurance, I owed $600 to Souma. However, I never received a bill from them and was blissfully unaware. Skip to December- I receive a call from a woman saying that I owe this money, and It's past due, accusing me of being delinquent. She asks for payment- and I ask for a bill! I'm not giving my credit information to some random person over the phone. She says she will send it "again". I have never had issues with mail in my building, by the way. Skip to January 14th- I receive two bills in the mail for the ultrasound. They are both postmarked for the 12th. One says "past due" and the other is stamped in big red letters "FINAL NOTICE". Says something to the effect of 'we have been patiently awaiting your payment, and have no choice but to report you to collections within 10 days of this notice'. That's a real nice thing to do to a 9 month pregnant lady with excellent credit. So unprofessional. DO NOT let your doctor refer you here- you will be sorry!! read more

I had a bad experience with one of Souma's ultrasound technicians this summer. Her bedside manner was quite poor. She didn't explain what was happening and basically shoved the wand you know where. Maybe because I was the last appointment of the day, she seemed really rushed, barely looking around in there. It was so quick that I doubted she would have seen anything if there was something to see. In other words, her lack of professionalism and care led me to believe that she was not qualified or competent to be doing what she does. I didn't trust the diagnoses. What a waste! Finally, I was pretty disgusted when she left the room in a rush with me laying there with globs of sticky stuff on my stomach. She didn't even offer a towel for clean-up. I complained to my OBGYN office but they had a tidy excuse of "we farm out our ultrasound services to this third party firm". I guess I'm stuck with the bill and they are stuck with this review (for lack of a better place to give feedback). read more

I'm searching online for Souma's contact info because I vaguely recall having a balance but can't find my bill. Imagine my surprise to read these Yelp reviews. I had the same experience as Lauren G! The technician was pleasant enough to talk to but she just shoved the wand in. I appreciate efficiency but come on! I was totally startled but the technician didn't even bat an eyelash. If my ob/gyn suggests another onsite ultrasound with Souma, I plan to politely request a referral. The phone number currently listed - (312) 654-8147 - gives you a recording that the number doesn't work. I called my doctor's office and was transferred over but not before I was told that I might get transferred back if Souma was on their lunch break. Huh? OMG! Same thing that a lot of people in here happened to me!! More than a year after my OBGYN's visit (I went a few times after that and got an ultrasound IN office this time) I got the same thing!! A "final notice" in red font bill!! WTF??!! I asked all the time if I owe something before leaving the doctor's office??!!! And now this?? I never got a bill or a call before so I don't know where is this coming from?? Just did some google search and after a while I was able to find this information about the lab. I told them I will not give them any money until I know that this is a legit business and will have my lawyer look into this. There are too many people scamming out there. Difficult follow through from billing department when requesting a copy of a billing statement. Still trying to get one after 3 weeks of calls, verifying, and repeating info to be told I'd have it by the end of the day and then end up not getting it. Ugh. Like all the others, maybe you'll get a bill...several months later. Really poor service in that regard - and I'm at least relieved to read that it's not just me. On top of that - so, I had an ultrasound in May. Was told everything looked healthy, nothing out of the norm. The ultrasound was to make sure my IUD still looked properly placed, but they checked everything out while they were up there. A few months later, in October, I have another ultrasound done at Northwestern. Right away, she notices I have polycystic ovaries. Um, I doubt that just happened in those few months. The symptoms were there all along, and the symptoms were why they were checking the IUD first. So, now I sit in front of a bill that finally arrives in December, for a service that I now know was done by someone incompetent, as the second ultrasound was able to point out clear as day what the first couldn't. Actually, comparing the bills, forget Souma and go to Northwestern, they were over $50 cheaper, and actually figured out what was going on! read more

WORST PLACE EVER. I seriously think it is worth it to just go offsite from the OBGYN's office rather than use these awful awful people. They tried cancelling my appointment a FEW HOURS before the appointment because 'I hadn't paid for the previous ultrasound.' What's funny is I had called them numerous times prior requesting that bill because it was due to a car accident and the person who hit me had to pay it. I have never tried so hard to get a freaking BILL from a place. Pretty simple concept, if you want people to pay, maybe try sending a bill?? The office manager was very nasty about the whole situation and would not compromise. I had to hand a photocopy of my credit card to the technician in order to keep my appointment that day - that was the ONLY option I was given. Which the ultrasound was not covered by medical insurance since it was the result of a car accident, so I had to charge $500 with a few hours notice. Not everyone can just do that. The best part is... it took them nearly three weeks to charge my card. The technician is great, the billing department is LAZY and RUDE. read more

The same thing that happened to Kris happened to me--verbatim. Got a random call from Souma saying I was deliquent on my payment, and practically demanding I "settle up" over the phone. However, I'd been waiting to receive a bill from them for two months. I said I'd like to receive a bill, one, for my files, and two, because I found it very fishy they were asking for my credit card number over the phone out of the blue. Shady looking website, no one picks up when I have been calling since 8am on a Monday and no one answers. Like other reviewers said, only way I received a bill was through this BS "Final Notice" collections looking document. I think it's their tactic in trying to get people to pay quickly. 1. Received an ultrasound on 5/4/2016 from obgyn pre-birth of child. 2. Received a bill in mail on 1/18/2017 when child was 7 months old with a statement date of 12/20/2016. 3. Called Souma to inquire and they said they had our address wrong for six months. 4. Asked why we received in the mail a month after the printed statement date, and was angrily told and I quote, "we got no control over what the mail carrier does." 5. When I told them I would not be paying until I could further investigate with my insurance and bank to ensure if we did indeed still owe them, was angrily told that they would mark it in the system and then got hung up on. I had such a bad experience with Souma's manager/owner (Freda). I had not received a previous bill and called to set up a payment plan when I received this bill. She was extremely rude and refused to place me on a payment plan. My insurance had already covered over $1000. When I spoke with the manager she just threatened me with collections. My OB GYN works at Chicago Women's Health Group and he is great. But needless to say I will be demanding a referral to another ultra sound company on my next visit. I recommend using another ultra sound company. read more

Completely terrible customer service. Paid full balance after services and now I get a bill every couple months that says "Final Notice" with vague threats about sending me to collections. Each time I call I get the run around for hours or days until someone finally assures me that I have no current balance. And then I get another threatening bill. I am a doctor and am appalled by the treatment I have received. I can only imagine my patients are receiving similar treatment and that makes me sick. If you can go somewhere else then go! For a healthcare office they are inefficient and their bedside manner is horrible!!! I went in for an ultrasound and had to wait for 45 minutes before even going back to be seen. Ok- maybe they were behind. I get it. My nightmare started when the doctor walked in. First, he walked in with gloves on already! Are you serious?!!! I need you to remove those please. Then he puts on another pair of latex gloves and I needed to remind him that I'm allergic to latex and it's in my chart. He proceeds to ask me how allergic am I. Does it matter?!!! He went to start the procedure and I had to remind him again that he still had on latex gloves. While doing the procedure, the nurse grabs a tissue and blows her nose while standing over me. If I wasn't attached to a saline line, I would have gotten up and walked out right then! And the wand? I had to remind the doctor a THIRD time about the latex glove that he put on the wand and he sent the nurse out of the room to "find something that will work". She comes back in with the same gloves on and hands the cover to the doctor. He opens it, puts it on the wand and finishes the exam. The doctor and nurse went back and forth about what they were seeing and if they had done the prior prep correctly. I'm thinking this is a joke right? I'm being punked or something! They finish and both leave the room with a you're fine and thanks. I'm left to clean me up the best way I can and find my way out of that place. A joke for a doctor's office and horrible experience. I work in the healthcare field and I know enough to ask the questions, but what if it was someone else. This place poses a serious health risk to the public and will be reported to the IDPH! read more

My OB uses Souma for ultrasounds. I had my first one done in July, and didn't receive a bill until the end of September. I immediately made a $25 payment when I received the bill, and one week later I received ANOTHER bill with a red stamp on it saying past due. I was scheduled to have my level 2 ultrasound done tomorrow morning, and some woman from Souma called me TODAY to tell me that if I didn't pay my balance in full by tomorrow, that I couldn't get my ultrasound done. I was completely shocked! I said I had just sent a payment, and were there payment plans available? She said yes, we could set up a payment plan, but I still wouldn't be able to get another ultrasound until it was paid in full. How completely unprofessional!!! Who calls a 5 month pregnant woman the day before her ultrasound and drops this on her?! If they refuse service until complete payment, they need to state that on their bill or on the paperwork I signed for the initial ultrasound. I called my doctor's office and let them know, and they said Souma is notorious for doing this to women. I cannot believe my doctor still uses them. I am going through the hospital to get my next ultrasound done. read more

Appalled by the behavior of the woman I spoke with on the phone and completely disappointed about how I was treated. I received an ultrasound back in April and received a statement in the mail in late June. It stated my insurance didn't cover the charges. So I immediately called my insurance. They said they never had a claim for that DOS. I called Souma Diagnostics to let them know what my insurance said and asked for their details on their end. I was treated poorly because I was asking for details about a $500 bill. They said they couldn't help me and that I needed to call my insurance again. After calling back and forth between Souma and my insurance, with the two still saying the opposite things, I got a call from a lady from Souma with a very nasty attitude, saying that if I didn't pay over the phone immediately (even though I was driving at the time) that they were going to freeze my account. All this within less than a month from receiving my first and only statement through them, despite me trying to fix the problem and making several fruitless phone calls. Very unprofessional and down right disgusting. I will no longer have my labs done through them and I will take care of my current bills online. read more
