We are very grateful for Jason and Soundscape Music! My two children have been with the school for several years and they have helped my children prepare and book lead roles in movies, tv shows and commercials. If it wasn't for Jason and his instructors, my son would not have started in the entertainment industry. Jason is always hands on and around making sure his instructors are doing their jobs and parents are getting their money's worth. After explaining to him what our goals were, he knew exactly who to pair us with. The first big audition my son had, Jason was there to "oversee" his lessons, audition tape, call back tapes, prepared him to meet with the director and producers- until he booked the role!!! We have not gone anywhere else since! Both my children also play piano, guitar and drums- the instructors are all amazing, so great with kids and make it fun and enjoyable learning at the same time. As a busy mom, I do not always respond and very quickly, however, Jason and Maria are very kind and understanding and have given me so much grace to late payments and late scheduling, I am very grateful- thank you! We have moved, but the school has also expanded to Los Angeles in the San Gabriel area, and we still have gotten even more amazing teachers since the move! The recitals are also always so beautiful and amazing, giving the chance for my kids to share their talents with others. Thank you, Soundscape!! We appreciate you!!!! As a business owner I want to be clear that this review is not aimed at the teachers who work for this company. They shine and are professional and fantastic. This is aimed at the owner, Jason Cheng who runs and operates the business. His assertive communication style is regulated on unwavering restrictions that seem to "school" parents. He gives 3 days after submitting an invoice for corrections and then is unwilling to make adjustment He charged us for lessons on Mondays (we are Tuesdays) and after correcting charged us for Xmas Eve and New Years Eve. When I asked to adjust and remove these holidays he "schooled me" that it was past the 3 day limit and then sent me a text as though he was bending over backwards to accommodate us on Nationally registered Holidays. Really? there are more places to have my daughter take music lessons- Be careful as I would advise to steer clear and pay teachers directly!!!! We started at Soundscape in Newport Beach two years ago when my son, 12, wanted to take piano lessons. We received the name of Soundscape from another family who recommended it. We couldn't be happier!! When Patrick arrives, my entire house feels lighter. He asked a couple questions about who the lessons were for (my 5 year old son), my goals for him, and what kind of style I was interested in and was able to match me with a teacher to start that next week. My son has been with Miss Joyce now since November, and LOVES piano lessons (which is surprising to me, seeing how I hated piano lessons when I was a kid!) I credit that all to Miss Joyce and how easygoing, patient, and warm she is! My kids have been taking piano and guitar lessons through Soundscape Music Studios for almost two years now. My oldest (14) takes guitar lessons with Russell, who is awesome! We have recommended him to several people in our neighborhood and kids and parents alike think he is the best! He is super good with the teenagers and I have come to appreciate his skill in both teaching and keeping their interest by focusing on music styles the kids like. Just a great experience. My other two take piano, and have switched teachers since our general lax attitude didn't sync with the first teacher. I have to say, Jason was understanding and has found us a great match with Helen. I'm sure she wishes they practiced more, but appreciates that we want music in their busy lives, and keeps it enjoyable and fun. It's a trade off for quicker advancement in skills, but it works for our busy family where school, church and sports take priority. Helen is so good with the little kids (10 and 7), patient and sweet and they actually look forward to their lessons. The recitals are just right - low key with a variety of instruments and skill levels, but really give kids the chance to experience prepping and performing in front of strangers. Such an important thing for kids to learn, and the atmosphere is supportive and fun with some real talent mixed in here and there. My son started lessons with this studio last September and has really flourished. His current teachers are Sylvia and Fred. Sylvia teaches classical and Fred teaches piano improvisation/music theory. Their styles are opposite of each other. Sylvia expects more precision in timing which is what classical music demands, wherea with Fred he is more lax about timing and correct notes since he emphasize creativity over exactness. After abundant research we have found the perfect piano teacher for us. My 7 years old daughter has been taking piano lessons with one of Soundscape Music Studios teacher, Fred and she finally has reconnected with her passion for music. Moving is hard on kids as it means having to part with great teachers sometimes and it took me a while as she had established a strong bond with her teacher in San Diego and nothing compared to that UNTIL WE FOUND SOUNDSCAPE MUSIC. On the first visit Jason the owner and Fred the teacher both came to our home to make sure it was a good fit. IT sure is. My daughter is now happily practicing on a regular basis and is learning a lot. We started with 30 minutes lessons and to her own request we moved on to 45 minutes. Fred makes it fun yet challenging for her and we can visibly see an improvement each month. We really like Fred, he is a phenomenal piano teacher. IT is very rewarding to see my daughter practicing because she likes it as opposed to me begging 10 times please practice your piano. Now she is self driven because Fred motivates her really well. Overall I would highly recommend Soundscape studio because they were very accommodating to our very dense schedule. Their teachers are really qualified and make a huge effort to have happy students. HAving the teacher come to your home for us ended up being a big plus. Initially I was looking for a studio to go to, but this works even better as my child is very comfortable at home, learns great and it saves us driving around. My daughter Sofia (7) has been taking lessons from Soundscape Music Studios since January 2012. Her instructor, Sylvia, is a very sweet, patient and effective teacher - because of this my daughter loves her lesson time with her and Sofia's progress since January has been amazing. Sylvia uses "music dollars" as rewards and incentive for my daughter to practice and improve. My daughter responds well to this motivation technique and is excited about what she earns each week during her lesson. I like how Sylvia comes to our home for the lessons so that I am able to "eavesdrop" on her progress and feel comfortable that she is in a safe and nurturing environment.
