Whoever has the California ID has to use a credit card in THEIR name also. This is not posted on their website but was told to me when I tried to use my New Jersey ID. Unfortunately, this time my shopping experience here was subpar. I came in planning to buy a specific, affordable portable amp with good reviews. The salesperson (white male, long hair, didn t catch his name and can t read on receipt) immediately started pushing the $35 "Pro Coverage." He claimed the amp was poorly built and said the manufacturer would charge $70 for shipping if I needed repairs. I later checked the manufacturer's warranty and they cover shipping for free. This amp is well-reviewed and doesn't have known design flaws, yet he continued to insist it was a "really bad amp" and "just a speaker with a battery." Paying 30% of the product price for unnecessary coverage when the manufacturer already protects and lying about manufacturers excessive shipping costs it felt like a scam. On top of that, I asked for a specific inexpensive cable I saw listed in stock for in-store pickup. He told me I'd have to order it online and have to pick a more expensive one instead. At checkout, he charged me through my phone without showing a price breakdown. When I asked for a physical receipt, he seemed irritated and handed me a print so faint it was barely legible. When I pointed that out, he said, "That's not my responsibility." Overall, this was a huge letdown compared to previous visits. This is exactly how not to treat a customer. Guitar Center will most likely not be my happiest place to be. But, after having met Lonnie in the percussions/drums/cymbals area, and my grandson learning from Lonnie's personal experiences, I might reconsider. A new set of a drum set for a growing young high school band/music person with good/intermediate drumming skills is what we were exploring. Good pricing suggestions and musician advice was received but the choices for a want and a need might have gotten blurred. After using the drums in the enclosed room and beating on a $2K electronic version using headphones, the apparant question became... ah why not have both?.. Oh no pressure, just something to think about. Lonnie did at the end of the evening help my grandson to pick the right drum throne and 55BB sticks, he goes thru sticks like they are toothpicks. A good experience at Guitar Center and we will be back to chat with Lonnie some more about an upgrade of the drum set in the garage. read more

Was down in Huntington Beach picking up my son's bass from a luthier and figured I would check out the local Guitar Center to see how it compared to my local ones. This location does not disappoint! Usually I walk into a GC and I know what to expect, but the selection at this store was really special. I haven't seen a JS Ibanez in a Guitar Center in decades, but they had a red one with a sustainiac pickup! You name the brand and they had an outstanding collection... I was really impressed. I hadn't planned on making a purchase, however, they had a PRS 24-08, which was something I'd been looking for, and I have never seen one of those at a GC before, and this thing was set up perfectly! Anyone who is a regular at this chain knows that you get one of two experiences walking in, either they won't leave you alone and ask if you need help every 5 minutes, or they ignore you completely. I had the latter experience at this location, took me a while to get someone to take the guitar down for me to look at (it was high up on their wall), but I am glad I persevered, I ended up taking it home. When it came time to check out some guy I had never seen before jumped in and said I was "his sale" which was awkward because by then the young lady at the cash register had actually been the only one to proactively reach out and ask me if I needed anything while I was trying out the guitar. I tried to tell the guy that I'd already had someone helping me, but apparently he had seniority or something. The lack of attention walking in and the pushy guy taking credit for my sale were the only downsides of my experience here, the selection is top notch, and honestly this GC is worth a bit of a drive to visit. This location is right off the 405 with a parking lot out front. read more

Today is my son's 15th birthday and we stopped in today to get his first guitar. The store was well stocked and organized. All the staff were friendly and helpful. I really appreciated how laid back and patient they were with us. We worked with PJ and it was a great experience for all of us. I'm in sales myself and I was impressed with his professionalism, product knowledge and sales approach. He did a great job of explaining what to look for and matched our son with a guitar that he can grow into. I really appreciate the stores price matching policy, and the discount for purchasing a floor model. They offer a protection plan that gives us peace of mind when it comes to accidental damage, $140 for 3 years is a fair price. I look forward to taking him in for lessons. We will be long time customers now that we have a budding musician in the family. read more

We came into this location to check out a Bose speaker/PA system and some microphones, and to get help understanding how the new PA system works. The first employee who helped us -- long hair, skinny guy -- was great. Super helpful. Unfortunately, everything went downhill after that. A few minutes later, we decided to purchase the Bose system, but the second employee we spoke to was the complete opposite. He immediately said they didn't have it in stock, then tried to push a more expensive item "from the back" that seems nobody wants to buy. When I asked if he could check other locations, he said, "Oh, I can't check our system." Seriously? What kind of answer is that? I also asked about a military discount. He told me they don't offer it on sale items. Later, I found out that's not true -- they can apply it on items $199+ as long as they're not clearance. The item we wanted was NOT clearance. So we left and checked online ourselves. We found the Bose PA and microphone at the Orange Outlet location. Both items were on sale (again, NOT clearance), and they had no problem giving the military discount. I asked about applying the discount to the Bose after the fact, but the cashier said he couldn't do a return-and-repurchase because he was busy with a long line. Annoying, but fine. He told us that if we went back to the Fountain Valley location, they could handle the return/purchase and apply the discount there. So we headed back to this location -- again -- because it was the only store showing the transmitter in stock both online and in the OC associate's system. And once again, total chaos. No one could help us. It honestly felt like half the associates didn't even know what products they carry. Completely unorganized. Eventually someone pointed us to a guy with a "CERTIFIED ASSOCIATE - RYAN" badge who claimed he was the manager (which I honestly doubt after talking to him). We explained that OC sent us here for the Bose transmitter and that they said the military discount could be applied. His response? "Did OC call ahead?" No -- but the website and their own system show it in stock. He insisted the system was wrong, that they've been "looking for that item for a while," and that it should show zero. Well, it doesn't. That's not our fault. Then he doubled down saying they can't give a military discount on sale items, even though OC literally just did. He brushed it off and said he "needs to talk to them about it." At this point, we were beyond frustrated. This location is disorganized, the staff is inconsistent, and the misinformation is ridiculous. We wasted so much time going back and forth because their system and their employees can't get on the same page. What a disappointing experience. This place seriously needs better organization and knowledgeable associates. We will never come back to this store! read more

The staff consistently comes across as PLAIN RUDE. Rather than helping customers, several employees seem more interested in MANSPLAINING ... AND TO NO SURPRISE , the information they provide is INACCURATE . On my most recent visit, I was even charged for an item that wasn't in stock after being told it would be brought out from the back. It truly seemed like the bald Asian employee was too lazy to spend 2 minutes looking through inventory. My favorite associate though is the tall white guy with long hair. He's the laziest of them all. Knows nothing about music, and can barely READ He'll even debate you on certain things even when the manufacturer label clearly state otherwise. The most concerning moment was watching a "piano specialist" give completely misleading advice to a parent asking about piano lessons. He recommended a 10 key synthesizer for a little kid. It was frustrating to see a customer put in a position where her child could struggle simply because the staff didn't know what they were talking about. ITS CLEAR THAT THESE EMPLOYEES ARE FAILED MUSICIANS PROJECTING THEIR HATRED ONTO EVERYONE WHO WALKS IN (even if ur nice and friendly to them) For a completely different experience, I recommend the Guitar Center at The Block of Orange. The staff there is knowledgeable, supportive, and actually makes you feel welcome. They've consistently helped me find what I need and share a genuine love of music. The manager that works night on the weekdays made the experience uncomfortable for both my brother and I. It was the end of the night and he was barking orders at his subordinates to take out the trash etc. I understand managers have to uphold responsibilities but man, hearing all this while trying to browse/play gear was soo off putting. The young/tall gentleman with long hair was SOOOO nice and considerate of us. 10 minutes before closing, he approached us sensibly/respectfully and informed us that they were preparing to close. It's really rare to meet guitar center employees that are nice/friendly/respectful to customers like the aforementioned individual. Most guitar center employees come off as stuck-up, pissed-off, and/or annoyed/bothered like the manager I mentioned earlier. read more

I brought in a guitar to sell and he worked with me every step of the way to get top dollar, which feels rare these days. oh my gosh, james, mr. senior sales associate (but not before top dawg mr. mike), was so helpful, he literally gave me a room temp water, my favorite of all water bottle choices. he was so sweet and kind helping me pick out a FLX4, or as i'd like to call it, "house music thingy". he really showed me what's what by helping me with all the buttons showing me how to use the device. he killed it sales wise by offering me multiple colors as well so i ended up spending more money than i set out for (sarcasm i would spend it again i much prefer white over black). all in all i totally recommend you come to this store. lonnie was almost helpful with headphones for my drum playing but i realized i had some with me. i am such a problem solver. also apparently there's a pretty good salad place in long beach says mike and his wife, check that out too. read more

I really used to love coming here 5 years ago but as of recent the last 3-5 times I've been here it's been rough. Workers used to ask to let them know if you wanted to check out a guitar without even being asked. That part doesn't really matter to me all that much. The most important thing to me is that the morale of all of the workers seems to be really off. Nobody seems like they want to be there honestly. I totally understand being in that position with being at a job that you feel that isn't worth being at but I think being kind is the bare minimum. One of the managers was incredibly rude and dismissive the last time I was there too. All I wanted was to buy a guitar strap but to him he seemed annoyed by me even being there. One person that I have always appreciated is Ruben in the electronics and keyboard area. He's always been very helpful and communicative whenever I come in. Genuinely a great dude. I hope whatever is displeasing the workers is assisted by corporate hearing them out because it seems they aren't happy with whatever they are getting paid or some other qualities of the job. read more

I went there try out a hollow body bass guitar and due to the size, I needed a strap. The sales rep wouldn't loan one to me, he said I had to purchase one. He was supposedly the "bass guy", and knew nothing about neck radius. Well maybe that's not so important to a bass player, but I think a little bit of knowledge would've been helpful. giving two stars for my experience because at least he went and got the bass guitar out of the stockroom and tuned it up. I went into guitar center in order to try out a variety of guitars including solid bodies such as strats and pawls, and including hollow bodies such as Gibson jazz guitars and Gretsch hollow bodies. Sightseeing all the solid bodies was easy and fun - the prices were easy to see and so were the various details of the various guitars, which were available to test under the guidance of a sales person. No problem so far. The hollow bodies and the Gretches are hanging 30 ft in the air where you can't see them very well, cannot see their prices, and cannot even see for sure what brand the various guitars are. There was only one salesman available to help, and he was selling an SG to an 11-year-old, so he had no time to answer my questions. I stood around for 45 minutes waiting for help, and never got it and went home. Had they helped me, I might have purchased a Gretsch on the spot. So I wrote a couple bad reviews online, and the Guitar Center responded by saying please email their help address, and they will be happy to respond within 24 hours. I sent them that email 2 weeks ago, and they never responded. So they won't help you in the store, and they won't help you online, and from my perspective, they simply will not help you. I have yet to play a Gretsch. Going to guitar center is a waste of time if you are a serious musician. If you're a beginner, it might be okay. read more

5 star for one particular employee. Lonnie in Drums. If you play drums in Orange County and this is your guitar center, you know Lonnie. This guy is ALWAYS working for drummers. Never once had he steered me wrong, and NEVER once has he ever given me a bad deal. Over time I've purchased from Lonnie, 2 separate sets of cymbals, and EAD10, new drive chain, a snare drum, and countless sticks. Every single time, he doesn't have to dig for the best deal, he just knows. He always remembers me, the type of music I play, and the gear I need to match it. Always delivers quality, and always knows what he's talking about. Seriously, big corporation or not, buy from Lonnie, he will NOT screw you. I've been coming to GS for years and this is my favorite guitar store, however this location goes through a lot of employees. There is always a bunch of new sales associates. It seems to be hit or miss on the level of service you will receive. I've come to just accept that fact and try not to let the occasional bad service effect my shopping experience. Thats why only a 3-star rating for the store. I would like to say though, a BIG shout out to RILEY who has certainly become the best guy there to deal with. I'll start with I know it's holiday season and stores like this are busier than normal but this confirmed why stores like this just suck the life out of shopping. I went in yesterday afternoon and wanted to trade in some old gear and get some new stuff to redo my setup. I was one of 4 customers at the time with 3 people behind the counter and others around the store. I asked about starting the trade and the gentleman behind the counter asked what appeared to be the manager, Mike, about it. He was told that's up to you and proceeded to tell me that if other customers came in he could get busy and to come back in the morning. I looked around at the 2:1 employee to customer ratio and asked again if there was anyone to help but same answer. Funny part is that I was looking at over $2k in gear to add and this was a trade to offload and offset. Ordered it from Sweetwater and will not be going back here. Literally no effort which is typical for this store. Kinda sad read more
