I've been going to this Guitar Center location more frequently lately and have really enjoyed the experience. Their selection is noticeably better than other locations, and the staff is consistently helpful and knowledgeable. I've purchased several guitars here already and plan to keep coming back. Hats off to Mike and Riley for always taking great care of me whenever I stop in.

Reuben at Guitar Center Fountain Valley sets the standard for customer service. With so many online options available, I still choose to buy all of my pro audio gear from this store because of Reuben's expertise, professionalism, and attention to detail. He's incredibly knowledgeable in his field and always takes the time to recommend the best options so I can make informed decisions with confidence. Guitar Center is lucky to have him -- someone give this guy a promotion!

Unfortunately, this time my shopping experience here was subpar. I came in planning to buy a specific, affordable portable amp with good reviews. The salesperson (white male, long hair, didn t catch his name and can t read on receipt) immediately started pushing the $35 "Pro Coverage." He claimed the amp was poorly built and said the manufacturer would charge $70 for shipping if I needed repairs. I later checked the manufacturer's warranty and they cover shipping for free. This amp is well-reviewed and doesn't have known design flaws, yet he continued to insist it was a "really bad amp" and "just a speaker with a battery." Paying 30% of the product price for unnecessary coverage when the manufacturer already protects and lying about manufacturers excessive shipping costs it felt like a scam. On top of that, I asked for a specific inexpensive cable I saw listed in stock for in-store pickup. He told me I'd have to order it online and have to pick a more expensive one instead. At checkout, he charged me through my phone without showing a price breakdown. When I asked for a physical receipt, he seemed irritated and handed me a print so faint it was barely legible. When I pointed that out, he said, "That's not my responsibility." Overall, this was a huge letdown compared to previous visits. This is exactly how not to treat a customer. I won't be coming back.

Electronic sets take up less room...

Guitar Center will most likely not be my happiest place to be. But, after having met Lonnie in the percussions/drums/cymbals area, and my grandson learning from Lonnie's personal experiences, I might reconsider. A new set of a drum set for a growing young high school band/music person with good/intermediate drumming skills is what we were exploring. Good pricing suggestions and musician advice was received but the choices for a want and a need might have gotten blurred. After using the drums in the enclosed room and beating on a $2K electronic version using headphones, the apparant question became... ah why not have both?.. Oh no pressure, just something to think about. Lonnie did at the end of the evening help my grandson to pick the right drum throne and 55BB sticks, he goes thru sticks like they are toothpicks. A good experience at Guitar Center and we will be back to chat with Lonnie some more about an upgrade of the drum set in the garage.

Was down in Huntington Beach picking up my son's bass from a luthier and figured I would check out the local Guitar Center to see how it compared to my local ones. This location does not disappoint! Usually I walk into a GC and I know what to expect, but the selection at this store was really special. I haven't seen a JS Ibanez in a Guitar Center in decades, but they had a red one with a sustainiac pickup! You name the brand and they had an outstanding collection... I was really impressed. I hadn't planned on making a purchase, however, they had a PRS 24-08, which was something I'd been looking for, and I have never seen one of those at a GC before, and this thing was set up perfectly! Anyone who is a regular at this chain knows that you get one of two experiences walking in, either they won't leave you alone and ask if you need help every 5 minutes, or they ignore you completely. I had the latter experience at this location, took me a while to get someone to take the guitar down for me to look at (it was high up on their wall), but I am glad I persevered, I ended up taking it home. When it came time to check out some guy I had never seen before jumped in and said I was "his sale" which was awkward because by then the young lady at the cash register had actually been the only one to proactively reach out and ask me if I needed anything while I was trying out the guitar. I tried to tell the guy that I'd already had someone helping me, but apparently he had seniority or something. The lack of attention walking in and the pushy guy taking credit for my sale were the only downsides of my experience here, the selection is top notch, and honestly this GC is worth a bit of a drive to visit. This location is right off the 405 with a parking lot out front.

I contacted Guitar Center through email and they were able to repair my saddle free of charge. Really appreciate the quick response and willingness to provide great customer service. Will be coming back here for any other instrumental needs.

Riley! Unyielding patience, care, sincerity and authenticity. Knows his merchandise and always points me in the right direction. So much gratitude for this location, all my winning purchases and being so lucky to fall into the best of hands with Riley.

I will start off by saying I have extensive experience with vintage amps, run an amp rental…read morebusiness, and in doing so have been to just about every amp tech in the area, and had 25+ amps serviced. So. I dropped off a vintage (70s) Champ amp and a MusicMan 212 Seventy Five to be serviced here in 2022. I heard nothing for over a month, and upon me finally contacting Rich to see where he's at with the work, I basically get told "oh yeah, the amps are done, have been for a week or two". Keep in mind I had not authorized or signed off on any work prior to this, other than a standard inspection/bench fee. I go to pick up the amps, and first off am greeted by a locked door and nobody inside, despite the store not closing for another 30-45 mins. I finally get a hold of Rich, and he comes over to open the doors.. And Immediately tells me the MusicMan was "unfixable". Said he couldn't find the transistors for it. Whatever, no big deal, I guess. Then, onto the champ. Says it was a breeze to work on, and sounds great. That's when I was met with the whopping $420 repair bill. If you know anything about these amps, you know how easy and simple they are. Not only is $420 OUTRAGEOUS for an amp this small/simple, it took him a MONTH! I also didn't get ANY of my original parts back after servicing, and only realized this weeks later. Rich pulled and kept the original, working RCA tubes from my amp. I was never told any tubes were replaced, and never authorized any replacement of the tubes, as they were all in working order. And I only noticed a few weeks later, well after I got the amp back. Even if the tubes were bad, I should have got them back. They weren't his to take. And how did I notice the tubes had been swapped? The new JJ tubes he installed buzzed/rattled like absolute crazy. And for what it's worth, I got the MusicMan serviced by a competent tech like a week later, and was only charged $250 for a full service/tube replacement/new transistors/new reverb tank. This guy isn't a bad tech, and my review may come off rather scathing - but, I feel it's warranted. He's overpriced as hell, and frankly didn't make it an enjoyable or easy experience getting my amps worked on by him. There are quite frankly many better options in the area (Kevin Nelson, Frank DeSalvo, Fredric Taccone, etc). The positive reviews on this guy seem to be from people who have no experience with other techs, and don't know what a reasonable price for amp work is.

This review is specifically about an acoustic guitar setup in the service department…read more I paid $95 for the setup service. I am dissappointed in the results and would not recommend their repair or setup services. The final results show a lack of quality control. I love the vibe of McCabe's and the 'grab and play anything you want' attitude which is rare at guitar stores these days. The staff have always been welcoming and don't hover or bother you unless you have a question. I even saw what appeared to a homeless person come in and ask to use the bathroom and the staff was kind and treated the person with respect and care. I've been a long time visitor, and needed a setup done on an acoustic guitar so I thought I'd bring it in and give them some business. Because the store is about a 30-45 minute drive for me, I asked if they could do it while I waited around the neighborhood and they said they were backed up and likely wouldn't get to it that day. I said ok and left it there and they called me about 2 hours later to say it was done and ready to get picked up, so I completely could have just waited for it. I wasn't able to make it back to the store for a few days (because it's a long drive), and when I picked up the guitar I was in a hurry and didn't spend a lot of time checking it out in the store. I pulled it out for a quick few strums to make sure the high action near the body was fixed, and it was, so I packed up the guitar and brought it home. Lesson learned - spend time at the store/shop when you are picking up your guitar. Spend more time than you think you should, better to find any issues at the shop before you get home. When I got home and saw the guitar in better lighting, I noticed there were a bunch of areas where there was some wax or polish that was obviously not buffed out. So the first thing I did was to spend about 5 minutes going over the whole guitar with a soft cloth to try and buff out all of the polish. Not a big deal, but obviously nobody at the store did any final check of the guitar, or if they did they would have seen this and just didn't care to do anything about it - just felt like poor quality control and lack of care. (Also - this is a matte finish guitar, so I'm not sure you're supposed to put polish on it at all..?) Then once I finished buffing out all of the leftover wax/polish, I tuned it and up and immediately discovered that both the A and the G string were buzzing while being played open. So I ended up spending another 10-15 minutes doing a truss rod adjustment to get the guitar into playable condition. Another indication that nobody bothered to check or play the guitar after the tech put it back together, or they would have clearly heard the buzzing strings. Or they just didn't care enough to fix it. For $95 I would expect the guitar to be able to come out of the case and look and play well without me having to do any additional work. I'm sad to have had this experience with a store a I have really grown to appreciate and enjoy.
