Had been meaning to try this place ouy for a year, mostly to check out the concerts they put on in the downstairs area....so we dropped by at lunch to have a quick soup (we tried the Satay and Moroccan Lamb and Lentils.) Not bad... The Satay soup was a little watery for my liking and the bread was definitely not fresh, but all other ingredients looked and tasted pretty honest and healthy. Great background music and nice laid back (slightly hipster) atmosphere.

Nursing a small hangover and desperately looking for some lost keys around the Northern Quarter, we needed somewhere quick, cheap and easy for lunch today. The atmosphere at Soup Kitchen is completely welcoming and homely - big wooden tables and a huge variety of people, from families and mum's with their babies to solo home workers and friends catching up, I don't think anyone would feel unwelcome. Food wise, it's pretty much in the name. A variety of soups, stews and sandwiches, all very authentically homemade. With canteen style service, you just head up and get your tray, pay, and return to your table. I had a bowl of the sweet potato, chilli and red pepper soup and it was truly great - perfectly warming for the winter weather. The boys had soup and sandwiches, which looked delicious, but would've written me off for the remainder of the day! I've been for music before, but I'll be back for the food.

That's raspberry cream on top of cheesecake on top of brownie. It is also known as amazing.

Both our soups came with a very nice seeded roll and some butter, and the pair of us could not fault either the food nor the price,£3.

I've been working in NQ for nearly two months now and lunch has always been harder than you might…read morethink. To start with I was quite extravagant, spending a tenner on burgers, artisan pies and the like - after spending my wages I started to bring in my own rabbit food salad *sad face.... But that was until I tried Rustica! I'd ways walked past and thought hmmm, not for me - what a fool I was. First of all Theres a great atmosphere in the shop; Motown playing, the girls chatty and friendly and a nice selection of pasta and hot/cold sandwiches. I plumped for the chicken club, it was warm, tasty and filling - everything you want from lunch, and only £3.35 - stuff your tesco meal deals! Don't let the functional layout stop you trying the best place for a cheap, quality bite to eat in the NQ!

I was first…read moreintroduced to rustica by a friend, now come every lunchtime if I'm within the 3 mile radius of rustica I endeavour to go in. A very small little kitchen with a counter it is on unlucky times brim to overflowing with folk desperate to eat one of them. By them of course I mean the sandwiches. It doesn't matter what you have its all made with look and affection. But if you really want something that fell from heaven there is one award winning bad boy the milano. On a granary bap it is filled with...... prepare yourself chicken, bacon, pesto, parmesan, mayonnaise and salad (this you can pick from the buckets of iceberg and sweetcorn bits etc). This is the single greatest sandwich I've ever eaten. The only time I don't have one is when the hour dictates its breakfast then I have a breakfast bin lid (a huge bap stuffed full of a big breakfast).

One of the BEST fish and chips I've had so far! Son and friends were staying at the hotel attached…read moreand we met them downstairs at the pub/bar. Cool vibes all around! Cool decor and cool music- ranging from New Order to alternative . Menu was legit British pub bar food - pies, burgers, fish and chips etc. But lemme tell ya their haddock fish and chips was one of de best I've ever had to far. A large more than generous portion battered and fried perfectly. Imma steak fry cut girl and their chips were delicious ! - thick cut, the way I like them and fried with a delicate crispy outside. We did have to ask for some ketchup. I thoroughly enjoyed the side of mushy peas- seasoned lightly, partially mush with partial full size peas. The steak and ale pie was delicious. Drizzled the yummy gravy all over. Order food at bar, they'll bring food to your table when ready. Great food, reasonable pricing for generous portions! Cool vibes

NQ never ceases to amaze!…read more "Lets goto the new pub round the corner from where we live" retorted a friend when quizzed on the P of A for the night. I was intrigued and then a flashback. On a particular night the week before I witnessed a 2am refurb going on, builders were hard at work transforming this particular building into something very appealing. As we walked in a week later, Abel Heywood was born in our reality. What an establishment! Let's get one thing straight, I love the NQ. But, as I've mentioned numerous times in previous reviews, Thomas street on a late Saturday night has begun (unfortunately) to resemble (much like somewhere like Printworks or Deansgate locks) a George Romero film from the 70's. That's exactly how we felt driving through it on our way to Abel. Now Turner street on the other hand has always been my favourite. It's that street in the George Romero film the Zombies haven't discovered yet. So we quietly parked there and tiptoed into the Abel avoiding attention of the Thomas street crowd. And wow, what an oasis. Calming music plentiful booths and comfy couches to sit on and timely bar service with friendly staff. The drinks range I've been told is fairly decent and there's a restaurant and a boutique hotel on the first and second floor respectively. Most of all the chilled out vibe on a saturday night was a clear winner. The seating booths are super comfy with heaters lined in between, which is likely to be a God send in the upcoming winter chill.
