They love what they do, but also like to give visitors their privacy to come and go as they please. They decorated this place themselves and really pay lots of attention to detail (it shows!) We stayed in the low tide room and it was just wonderful. It has so many amenities, was very clean, and they made amazing use of the space. Everything looked new and placed with so much love. The low tide has a separate bedroom and bathroom and a small living/kitchen area with a nice little fireplace. The theme is nautical decor throughout and beautiful photography from landscapes in Alaska. One of the coolest things was the ceiling in the bedroom and how the bathroom shower is set up. The towel holders were actually oars and the handles of the doors are an actual cleat hitch. Pretty neat and creative! This is by far the cleanest nd nicest place I've been to, with an amazing view as it's practically right across the street by the water. No other place in town can beat that. This is a quick drive to the sea life center and the surrounding area at a very reasonable price! Definitely check them out! The kitchen was even nicely stocked with a few items!

The craftmanship is just stunning. The house consists of just 2 rentals, the Low Tide and High Tide rooms. I stayed in the Low Tide which is perfect for families (or snorers) because of its one -bedroom studio that was closed off to the main area. The High Tide room looks more romantic, as its a proper studio with a bed facing the bay. Both rooms have absolutely stunning views of Resurrection Bay....we could see birds and sea otters from our breakfast bar! The kitchen area has a small fridge stocked with OJ, milk, coffee creamer and butter pats. There were three types of cereal, all fully stocked and super delicious and healthy. The coffee was phenomenal and there were packets of tea and spiced cider. The architectural details of the Low Tide room really made me feel at home. For Sewards gray skies, the Low Tide has bright, airy colors that feel Southwestern. The craftsmanship is flowing; the ceiling has delicate arches with wooden beams, similar to a nautical feel (this personally makes me feel I'm Italy because they loved curved ceilings.) Oh yes, and the bathroom is phenominal...I guess you just have to be there to understand. Furniture is higher-end, and they have a great economical water heater (heated water on demand). I love this place. The scenery, the quaintness of Lowell Point, the amenities and guaranteed hot showers and nice dishes, make this the perfect spot for an Alaskan getway....the only suggestion I would have is they get a grill!

The apartment is equipped with a: refrigerator, microwave, toaster, coffee maker,TV, and some beach chairs that sit outside the apt. The units are very close to the waterfront and we enjoyed being able to walk there and to the quaint downtown. The only downside, our apt had the worst bathroom imaginable. Likely worse than a Motel 6. The tub was in awful condition, the shower head weak, and the towels smelled odd. I cringed each time I needed to use the bathroom. I also did not like the late..very late self-check-in (could be between 3-5) and early check-out.

An unexpected treat was that they served free hand-dipped (in chocolate and rolled in toppings) gourmet ice cream bars in the evenings, and even at the shack they run in Seward. Great place for couples or families, just don't do what we did... be sure to leave yourself some time to enjoy the breakfasts and the lake!

Pat, Dennis and Margie were great hosts: Dennis told us plenty of amazing stories and knows everything about the area and the lake (don't hesitate to ask him questions, he will be happy to answer, he even offered us a private boat tour!) Margie is a great cook and makes delicious breakfasts (loved the waffles) and you will have the privilege to taste Pat's delicious ice creams every day. The gear they provided kept us dry, and it was the perfect amount of time to be on the Kenai River for a novice to both learn and try to catch some fish. Tom had the patience of a saint while we learned, was an excellent teacher, and knew every inch of that river: where to go to go for a hit, what bait to use, the technique for that specific spot -- it was absolutely unreal. I may have been a little extra excited when I arrived since I had just spent the last 5 days kayaking around Aialik Bay and probably would have loved any place with a hot shower and a warm bed, but once you meet Dave and Wendy, it feels like you're crashing over at a friend's house. Anyone heading to Seward should definitely stay here; you won't regret it.

We were 10 of us, and stayed 3 nights - used the grill, but not the hot tub - and made our own breakfasts and dinners at the lodge. Wendy was very accommodating, when two of our crew, me included, could not make the kayak trip, and found other people to use the slot, and helped us to make alternate arrangements. Bear Paw is a great place to stay in Seward, & especially if you plan to go kayaking.

They open the door, and everyone walks through. I recommend sticking with the gold star service. The view is better from higher above (it's the pic with the shaded glass on top, which seems to defeat the purpose), the seats have a tray and a foot rest, and are more comfortable/larger. No carry-on; you need to check all luggage. The food is pretty good and it includes two drinks. They didn't say anything about breakfast until we'd been on the train for 45 min. We had to sit with another couple which was odd but okay. Adventure class is down below. It's like riding a bus or a plane. There's a rack above for a carry-on. The window is large (it's' the pic without the shaded glass on top). It's kind of noisy. There are families, kids, crying babies, etc. The seats have no food trays or foot rests, and don't lean as far back. The cafe is lack luster, with pretty lousy food choices. You might not be willing to eat any of it. You can bring your own food but you cannot bring alcohol. The cocktail drinks are $14 each and it's not easy to get one in Adventure class because there isn't much service there. There are a few eating tables next to the cafe. There is a person narrating what you see the entire time but sometimes only the people in gold star service can see an animal or whatever is spotted. We saw moose, swans, caribou, etc. We did not see Denali mountain because of the clouds. The first 2-3 hrs going from Anchorage to Denali is only birch trees, quarries, and run down houses. I suggest bringing a book for that part, but don't worry the views get much better after that.

We had two seats on the right going to Seward and two on the other right side for the return trip. The train slowed when wildlife (moose, bear, bald eagles etc) was spotted by someone. We saw a lot of shore line, waterfalls, tall mountains and so much more. We had a glass roof with a great view of all angles. We had a guide inform us of information and trivia over a PA system. One guide on the return trip did not speak with much volume. It was hard to hear what that one guide was saying. Our breakfast and lunch was included. We also had a number of friendly people to talk with on the excursion. The breakfast left me a bit hungry but the food was good. We had three full breakfast choices on the menu. Dinner was more filling and I was not hungry after having pot roast with mashed potatoes. Had a nice chocolate cake dessert. My wife had key lime pie. Our trip included two alcoholic beverages in each direction and unlimited soft drinks included Coke products. She drank wine and I had beer. This was my wife's first trip to Alaska. The weather was pleasant and not too cool. We plan to take a different train excustion on a future trip to Alaska. We will always go in June when the days have the most daylight.
