There is a shuttle service to take guests to and from the main lodge to their rooms. Even though it was the middle of summer, we wanted to be able to have a fire in the fireplace. There was plenty of cut wood for the stove and they even provided fire starter. There was a nice trail behind the main lodge building that goes down in a bit of a slope. Have no fear; they provide walking sticks you can borrow. There are two restaurants on site, and reservations are recommended. The gift shop in front of the lodge office has lots of souvenir items.

Have been coming to this place for years now, when passing. It's iconic looking, a very large log…read morecabin styled building from the exterior, nestled back from the road, amid mountains, and next to Summit Lake. There are also cabins to rent and suites. Over the years, there have been changes, but the dining room for the most part remains the same. Big light and airy space, with massive picture windows looking out over Summit Lake, and it's a beautiful view. There's a cosy seating area right at the entrance with comfy couches to relax on. If you can get a window seat, it's well worth it. Swallows swerve by the window with mere inches to spare, catching insects on the wing, it's quite a sight while you wait for your food. It has a rustic, log cabin Alaskan feel, but the napkins are fabric, the glassware is nice, and servers are in uniform. The menu is hard backed so it feels sophisticated. I ordered coconut shrimp from the appetizers menu, which came with some kind of special dipping sauce, and I got some French fries on the side. Husband ordered the Garbage Grinder burger and a salad. The shrimp were ok, nothing special, the dipping sauce was based on orange marmalade - I didn't enjoy that at all. The fries were ok. His Garbage Grinder burger was insurmountable in the state it is presented, there is no way a normal person can fit that in their mouth. It must be 6/7 inches high. He had to remove some items to make it thin enough to get it in. Whilst I was eating, a couple were seated on the table behind us. I didn't think my chair was sticking out that far, but this woman, when being seated, kept whacking her chair into mine, forcing me to push my chair in really tightly, which I thought it was rude and inconsiderate, as a normal person would say "excuse me, could you pull your hair in a little" but she just kept battering my chair with hers until I moved. We were obviously in very close proximity, and I heard them say they were tourists, from out of state and had just got married, and would they comp the meal? This was prior to even ordering, and not because anything was wrong with the meal, just merely because they had a strong sense of rude entitlement. You got married, why are you entitled to a free dinner? It was irritating. But obviously not the fault of Summit Lake Lodge. Anyway the server promised to ask her manager. (Who refused to comp the meal, but did offer a discount) Anyway, it's a beautiful place, in a beautiful location, you're paying for an experience, not just the food - which is slightly above average. The service is impeccable, the views are stunning, and an influencer's dream. The menu used to have a lot more items on it, simpler things - I had my first ever Reuben here years ago and it was amazing, but you can't get it anymore. It seems to change annually. My room was decorated with a picture of the Portland (Maine) Head light made from puzzle on wall. The building has a community lounge with TV & movies. No in-room television. It felt more like a motel than a Bed and Breakfast. Less personal, less intimate. Breakfast as in a Best Western - self-serve bowls of HB eggs, bagels & packets of cream cheese, small boxes of cereals, bowl of bananas, apples; etc - a few muffins. Nothing homemade. If I'm in the area again, I'd probably stay there again. It is was a good value for the price and especially for Alaska. $85. Visa & Master Card only. No American Express.

I am coming here to WARN YOU TO NOT BOOK WITH ALPINE INN MOTEL…read more They are shady and deceptive. We booked in April, showed up in July (high season) with a confirmed reservation and door codes provided by AirBNB. When we arrived, we were notified that we didn't have a reservation and that we would have to rebook onsite if we wanted a room. So we had no choice but to rebook three nights in three different rooms. Which meant checking out every day and checking back in in the evening. Reading Google reviews shows that the property knew of the issues well in advance of our stay. Once checked in to our room, we were greeted with filthy accommodations, no hot water, no WiFi, no tv stations, and mold in the bathroom. We are going to post this review on as many platforms as possible. Alpine Inn Motel is a scam and needs to be held responsible. We are currently disputing our transaction through Mastercard, so if you used Mastercard, please do the same. If that fails, small claims court will be our next avenue of holding them accountable. Contacting the BBB and third party booking sites are also on our agenda.

After easy check-in, we went to our cabin and was greeted with dirty spatula on the porch. Not a good sign, but we remained hopeful. However, as we entered the cute little cabin, we saw dead bugs on the window sill, the shower curtain was wet from the previous occupants, and the couch was stained & dirty. As two women travelling, what concerned us most was the various 'characters' walking throughout the property, who we think were either fisherman or workers from the local outfitters. Not the wholesome environment we thought Gwin's Lodge would offer. For pros, the bed was comfy and the front desk was friendly. I can see how the lodge would be good enough for some guests. Sad to say, I'm not one of them. I got through the night pretending I was camping and left early the next morning. Other than above, the roadhouse restaurant is well worth the food stop and the gift/gear shop is stocked with all you'll need for your stay in Cooper Landing.

And the next afternoon, when I arrived with a trailer to haul the van away, the owner spent about an hour helping me to get it safety loaded and chained down (he pretty much did most of it for me!). Hosts were super nice and helpful for suggestions on where to grab gear, eat, and spend time. WiFi worked well. We'll stay here again when we come back. Only thing is pay attention on the left as you're driving out of town for the sign because it was a small white sign that we missed the first time....the sign isn't as big as some of the others along the highway.
