The lakes were productive and my son and I caught a substantial Lake Trout locally known and named by the indigenous people hundreds of years ago as a Togue. The stream leading out of the lake at the close by dam was very productive for catch and release Native Brook Trout & also landlocked Salmon & we even caught several Rainbow Trout. We released all of these wild fish. Our server in the lodge where we had dinners was named Sydney & she was charming and we really looked forward to our meals. The chef smoked the Togue for all the guests to sample before our dinners as an appetizer . We had a great experience while staying there on our fishing adventure.

Luckily we stayed here the first weekend that school started in the area and it wasn't packed with…read morefamilies and screaming kids. It says that they have tent sites and I guess they do, though there is not much space at most. It is set up very well for ATVs and RVs with water and electric at most sites. They have some lean to sites as well and this is where our story goes a bit weary. We booked months ago for a lean to site along the pristine swift river in Byron. A week before we knew bad weather was to come, so we asked if there was any way to swap sites to a flat ground site. The answer was no that they were booked up. I believed that, as it was a weekend. However many many sites round us stayed empty for the entirety of our trip. We had a very uneven, root and rock filled site. Our site was L16 and it was right in the river, just 30 feet down, and it also had its own small river running right through the middle of camp. It was a very very wet stay, even though it only rained a few times. It said one 8X8 flat spot for a tent, but there was none. We ended up with two extra people and it cost me another 100$ then when we booked originally and they charged us for 2 tent spots too, when they knew we where in a spot that didn't have that. The lady at the office with dark long hair has a bit of an attitude. So we didn't want to have to ask for much, we had to park our extra car and trailer behind the office. Also making trips back and forth as need be. She's abrasive and doesn't seem like she's happy to be there..... the place is in a beautiful spot, but beware. A few sites have parking quite a ways from sites themselves. These sites will have you walking back and forth to your vehicle quite frequently. They do warn you on the website which sites are best but photos can be misleading. Some of the lean to sites, seemed to have flat ground, and they looked real nice to say at. All in all we did the best we could with a crappy and wet situation. I really think they could have accommodated us and switched our sites to one on flat ground, since almost all around us were empty. It's in a beautiful part of our state, but I don't think we will be back. We will opt for something a bit closer to things, as Byron was a good 30-45 mins either way.

Awesome rustic campground on the Swift River. There are nice spots to swim, wade and gold pan!read more

Overall a great place to rent gear while at Lake Umbagog!…read more I'll be honest there was a staff misunderstanding/snafu that could have ended up being a really sour spot in our weekend, but the owner Thomas was amazing about going out of his way to fix things. The boat was in great condition, lifejackets were new, and the location of the shop was great for exploring and putting in. One thing to note, they apparently have spots on the lake that you can rent to camp at? Also their boats are cheaper than those at the state park, so maybe next year we'll go directly with NW for everything. Thanks again Thomas :) Jen

But after rafting, you're…read moregiven an option to go tubing for free, me and my family decided to go tubing down the river which we had to walk down the pathway which was fine. Once we got into the water with no instructor, the only instructions we were given was to follow the same path we took for rafting and swish towards the right after the bridge. We also were told not to get out of our tube. The experience was normal, but nothing really special, when we were tubing once we passed the bridge we tried to steer right, but nothing was happening due to the strong currents. When we were approaching the time where we're supposed to get out of the tube nothing changed. This led to me and my family having to evacuate our tubes and caused us to hit our feet on the shallow sharp rocks in the waters. It was painful and I don't recommend to anyone. We had to get out of our tubes, drag our tubes with us to the shore while hitting sharp rocks and it was not fun. Overall, the rafting was normal and expected, but the tubing was not fun and I recommended they have an instructor or staff help navigate the strong dangerous waters to prevent any accidents.
