I've been on a farmers market tour of the Bay and this is one of my favorites. There are a wide variety of booths, confined to a space that is big enough not to be congested and small enough not to be chaotic. There is an excellent mix of produce, real food, treats (including ice cream), and take home items that you can very easily get lunch, dessert, and grocery shopping all done in one stop. The parking situation is a bit close to impossible which would really be the only con, but the neighborhood is super walkable so once you find a spot, take a stroll and earn the ham and cheese croissant I'll promise you you'll want to try! The South Berkeley Farmer's Market is probably one of the best Farmer's Market I have been to in the SF Bay Area. They are located a short walk from the Ashby BART station. As you head out from the BART station walk along Adeline in the opposite direction of Berkeley Bowl in the direction of Flacos. Keep walking for a bit & you will see them on the right hand side of Adeline. Lots of organic produce here. Some of it maybe a bit costly yet fresh as you can imagine as the blueberries I picked up were picked the morning that I bought them. I like that it is compact, lots of variety, & w/ heaps of organics. I do a lot of my own cooking as I frequently make smoothies for breakfast along w/ stews w/ whole grains for lunch along w/ dinner. I have recently gotten into making different customized trail mixes. I picked up some blueberries, raspberries, cantaloupe, squash, & almonds. Other items that I saw that looked interesting that I didn't pick up were avocados & sprouts. Look forward to returning here again soon! read more

Though it may look small, the Berkeley Tuesday Farmers Market has some of the best farms in the area hawking their produce here: Flying Disc Ranch Frog Hollow Farm Full Belly Farm Kashiwase Farms Riverdog Farm It's far less frenetic than the Saturday farmers market in Downtown Berkeley and if you like to see chefs outside the kitchen, you can catch many of them shopping here on Tuesday afternoons. read more

Farmer's markets have always been amazing in Berkeley but COVID has made them even more important than ever. The Tuesday market in South Berkeley has become a go-to for our family, with more vendors than ever, good procedures for managing social distance, and near-universal mask wearing. They've expanded down 63rd street so there's plenty of space for vendors and socially distanced lines. Our favorites include Swanton Berry Farm (for strawberries), Lou Vue (for tomatoes and asian veggies), Kashiwase and Peach Jamboree (for amazing stone fruit), Brokaw Ranch (for avocados), and Phoenix Pastificio (for cookies). After going to this farmer's market, I probably won't bother going to the weekend ones any more. It's so chill and quiet! They have just as many vendors but a fraction of the people shopping, there are no lines, and it's just way more relaxing. read more

The produce was good far better than the box sores or grocery stores but expensive. I'm used to go to places that are farm to fork and there's no middleman that marks up the prices. Maybe because its Berkeley and they feel they can get away with it. I'd probably stop by again when in the area. I did get a melon that was delicious. read more

The Tuesday market is less of a scene than the packed Saturday market, which makes this a great venue for pragmatic mid-week shopping. There are fewer "value added" sellers (pre made food, soaps, etc.) but a good selection of eggs and produce with tofu, meat, cheese/butter, honey, and coffee thrown in the works. Often, I can even get flour, olive oil, soy milk, kraut, and cornmeal. It's feasible to do 95% of my food shopping here, and for the unavailable miscellany, Berkeley Bowl is three blocks away. The good folks at BB gladly hold my farmer's market goods at the front while I top off my shopping bag. This is a great market if you live/work in the area and need your farmer's market trips to be both fun and functional. We pick up a CSA box from Full Belly Farms and a fruit box from Frog Hollow here - that fills most of my bag each week with a little room for impulse buys. My teaching/studies keep me busy, but these box subscriptions help save time (and a little money) so that I can keep a weekly farmer's market adventure part of my busy routine. read more

This is a review of the Tues Berkeley Farmers Market. It's every Tues rain or shine from 2-7pm. It's about a mile from Ashby Bart so we just walked over. Things I saw: Flacos-sign said "Unique vegetarian Mexican food" - don't know if it's any good. Cindy's Thai Kitchen, Emeryville - I tried their Red snapper $7.50-comes in a large takeout box, yellow rice on the bottom, red snapper was in the banana leaf & was temperature hot. I asked for hot (as in spicy) but there was no heat at all. Pretty boring to eat. Too many daikons in the dish. poem store - some guy with a manual typewriter Vital Vittles - breads, vegans, vegan sweets Yogurt St. Benoit - strawberry, plum, honey, or lemon. It's $2.75 + $1.25 deposit fee = $4 for above special flavors. Regular plain yogurt $2 + 1.25 deposit fee - $3.25. Three Twins ice-cream Frog Hollow for sweets, jams-got 3 cookies to try. Chocolate chip cookie boring, Linzer cookie was Good, blackberry pastry -yuck. Love this farmer's market! Not only because I support the local food movement but also because of the many great things this market offers... This is my favorite farmer's market in Berkeley (out of the 3 available markets here: The Saturday market on MLK & Center, the Thursday organic market at Shattuck & Rose, and this one). I love it because it is quieter than the Saturday market, and it has more vegetable and fruit produce than the Thursday market. I was pretty amazed at the wide range of selection available here. There are many farms/vendors present, each with their own different kinds of produce. ALL of them are incredibly fresh and beautiful! Dirty Girl's baby carrots are delicious! Potatoes, organic vegetables and mushrooms from other stalls (forgot the farm's names) are also super fresh and tasty. They are all ridiculously good! The musicians (ukulele and guitar players) are always very, very good. This farmer's market exudes this wonderful neighbourhood vibes that make me feel very comfortable. The ambience is always more chill and relaxed than the busy, crowded Saturday market. Go early so that you can enjoy the freshest fruits and vegetables while they are being freshly unloaded. Ask the farmers for recommendations. Most of them are pretty friendly. Build affinity between you the consumer, the food, and the noble farmers that make the fresh organic food possible! read more

Update! The Tuesday market has added a few vendors, most notably...Ici! The Ici folks are out there with a freezer cart, dishing out their scoops, flavors listed on a hanging chalkboard. When I'm filling up on healthy veg/fruit, I can justify a few scoops of Ici, right?? Also, I've been loving the Flacos stand recently. They have $1 taquito Tuesdays at their regular store, but also at their stand. I like to start at one end of the market and get 2 taquitos (with half mild and half spicy salsa, mmm), then nibble my way through all the stands (picking up produce along the way) and end with a chocolate macaroon at the Pasta Pacifico stand. They advertise their macarooms as "BEST EVER" and they are true to their word. They look similar to coconut macaroons, but no coconut in them. Instead, a wonderfully crunchy/crusty exterior that hides a moist, chewy, almond-y interior. Perfect as I munch my way to the Ashby BART! read more

Farmers market in the afternoon is such a great idea. This market has a good amount of vendors: meat, veggies, fruits, dried nuts etc. One side has the cooked food vendors: mexican and thai food, ice cream, bread and they even have blue bottle coffee! There are many street parking around the block. It's across Sweet Adeline's, one of my favorite bakeries in town so be sure to drop by their store. hippies-- yes, then again it's berkeley. This place is all full of hippies...hippies who tell me I look like Stevie Nicks. Nevertheless, I love it! Full Belly CSA Blue Bottle Coffee Kale Chips! Hello! Tofu Stand ...and maybe it's weird to be this excited over cabbage products, but there's an awesome hippie chick with a cabbage stand. Seriously, I love sauerkraut. Maybe it's my German jeans? That wouldn't explain why her kimchi is so good though, hmmmmmm. Reasons to prefer the Tuesday market over the Saturday one: - Full Belly: one of the best all-round farms, I keep meaning to get their CSA box but never manage to make it happen - Dirty Girl: canonical dry-farmed Early Girl tomatoes - less crowded - walking distance from my house - don't have to wake up early and shop hungover - on Saturdays, you'd arguably do better fighting the crowds at Ferry Plaza than in Berkeley Reasons to prefer the Saturday market: - Fatted Calf linguisa - Fatted Calf fegatelli - Fatted Calf petit sec - all the other Fatted Calf meats I haven't tried To me that's a victory for Saturday. This market really is a 5. I come here every now and then on my bike, and I'm always glad I made the trip. For me, the prime attraction is the Blue Bottle Stand: on Tuesdays, BB brings in their antique propane- and hand-powered multi-group Pavoni espresso machine and knocks out killer espresso drinks. Once I'm buzzed, I look around for produce to bring home, and I always find items of interest. In the late summer and fall, the Dirty Girl dry farmed tomatoes are not to be missed! This market has a lot of good neighborhood vibe. Somehow I find it much more down to earth and less pretentious than the Saturday and Thursday markets in Berkeley. It's about a quarter the size of the Temescal market, but I still like it better! read more

Love this! Especially during the summer when the husband and I are both off work (yay for being teachers) and we can go when it opens at 2. -I love the booth where you can taste all the stone fruit. We were into the Flavor King Pluots last summer. -The olive bread from Phoenix Pastifico is incredible: Full of juicy, salty olives. -Cheese from Dave! I know dave, but even if i didn't know him, his cheese would still be amazing. I am partial to the Smoked Jack. Have Dave help you pick the best piece. He is a cheese whisperer. -Full Belly Farms produce is excellent. I used to get a weekly box of produce from them and everything was always fresh and exciting. -I haven't bought anything yet because it's pricey, but the stall at the end where you can taste all the crazy jams is yummy. I especially like the Meyer Lemon Jam. It would be a great gift. -I love the booth with the meats. Those Cheddar Chipotle Sausages are the best. The ground beef was nasty though, with tons of grisly pieces. I like this farmer's market because there are things to buy besides produce, like bread, cheese (Dave!), eggs, and meat, all organic and local. read more

Usually, i always think it will be fun to go to a farmer's market, and i always end up feeling overwhelmed. Everyone there seems to know exactly what they want, and i get lost in the crowd. Yesterday was another story, i went there with my friend and we found the Three Twin's ice cream stand. We literally stood there for ten minutes contemplating what each of the amazing sounding flavors would taste like. An example of the flavors are: Dad's cardamom, Madagascar vanilla, frog hollow pear sorbet, the land of milk and honey(!!) I got a scoop of the cadamom, and my friend got the cookies and cream, then we lazed on the grass like we were five years old, with sticky fingers and huge smiles of accomplishment. in that moment, life was good. Next time i go to the Farmer's market, i will not be the lost person, for i know that ice cream awaits me. Also there is blue bottle coffee, and some really good honey and yogurt stands. read more

The Berkeley Farmers Markets are my favorite in the bay area! Love the vendors at the Tues market... beautiful food grown by beautiful people! I love buying food directly from the farmer. You cannot even compare the freshness and quality of this food with the stuff sold in stores that has been trucked in from hundreds or thousands of miles away. My favorite farm at the Berkeley markets is Riverdog Farm. They have such a variety of produce, meat, and lovely dry goods... I can pickup everything I need in one stop! The quality of their food is so good that it is sold to the top restaurants in the Bay area including world-famous Chez Panise, Gather, and Pizzaiolo to name a few. While a bit smaller than other markets, this Tuesday market is a great opportunity to pick up things that I may have missed due to weekend travel and missing the weekend markets. It's usually less crowded and there's a great aura of mystery and intimacy to shopping in the twilight and during the winter - in the dark. Love love love the Tuesday Farmers Market. I used to go to the Saturday AM market in downtown Berkeley, but now this is my mainstay (especially since I pick up my CSA box from Full Belly Farm). The market is mostly toddler friendly (I take my two year old), although you do get the stray person who doesn't look down at that level. Vendors are very friendly. My personal faves are Full Belly Farm, for all of their fantastic produce (go to their Harvest Festival in October, it's fantastic!), Lucero strawberries (back from their winter hiatus, yay!!), and Mr. Davis, who sells eggs, super delicious pecan pies, and various other items, and, of course, the amazing ice cream sandwiches from Three Twins (the people who run the stand always seem slightly annoyed, but I choose to think they're from some New Englandy place--I swear they look like they're from Maine--and just don't have the whole California smiling thing down). Overall, a great place to go on a Tuesday afternoon. Eat some strawberries, get some apple-cherry juice, try some yummy olive oil. Plenty of parking, or an easy walk from Ashby BART. And if you see a woman madly chasing a curly headed toddler, just wave and say hi! read more

This is a review of the TUESDAY farmers' market. This is my favorite market day because of the avocado guys who only seem to be at the Tuesday market (though the avocados sadly go out of season in the winter). I also love my CSA box from Full Belly Farm. I've been to all 3 Berkeley Farmers markets, and people generally seem more relaxed and friendly on a Tuesday than on Saturday. The Tuesday market is bigger and has more stands, such as the avocado stand, and a wider selection than on Thursdays. Plus, maybe it's just me, but parking is also much easier to find on Tuesdays than on market days at the other locations. read more

Based on the reviews i expected a lot more from this market. Perhaps it's the time of year but several booths were selling the same items aardvark the only fruit avail was citrus or apples. Also stopped by the fresh pasta booth but the person manning it legit picked up a clip board and began ignoring me mid sentence. As I walked away the next person was helped promptly. Booth doesn't appear to be POC friendly so I'd avoid it altogether... read more

After finally getting a drivers license - that's right, I'm old as the hills and just now licensed to ill - I took myself to this Tuesday farmers market in celebration. I got the largest Lisbon lemons I've ever seen and was very tempted by mulberries. This market isn't as big as the Saturday market but it is by no means small! I had to park several blocks away, but I don't mind the walk. There are some vendors here that aren't at the Oakland farmers markets and some that are, so it's a nice mix of new and familiar for me. But be warned: you will hear things like "transcendental" and "I just want to be the music" and so on, so if that sort of thing bugs you, best to stay away! And leave the mulberries for me. read more

My favorite stands sell delicious food from River Dog Farm, Happy Boy Farm, Frog Hollow Farm, Full Belly Farm, Bee Healthy Honey, Vital Vittles Bakery, Three Twins Creamery, and Andy & Cindy's Thai :) Tuesday's my favorite day of the week. Not bad for a 1 bloc only farmer's market. They are almost all cert organic. I saw many veggies I hadn't seen before today. So many agendas in Berkeley. Human rights for homeless, stop military recruiting, sustainable living, and a couple more in 1 bloc! Big plus for easy street parking. read more

These folks are the real deal. Hardworking farmers and farm families of all backgrounds. Even a union-labor farm [with cauliflower!]. Take BART to Ashby and walk on Adeline down toward Alcatraz. Also on offer: fermented and pickled goodies. Chocolates. Fresh pasta. read more

The Tuesday market has a great feel to it. It's intimate and not at all touristy. On top of the satisfaction I get from buying directly from the farmers, there's something great about being at an FM after work, as a way to wind down and take in the outside (non-office) world. This is my new favorite market in Berkeley. I usually work on Tuesday afternoon/evening, but a couple of times recently I've stopped by this market on my way to work, and it just might have to become part of my routine. The farms here are many of the same ones at the Saturday market, except for Full Belly, which is in Berkeley only on Tuesdays and has a beautiful, delicious selection of vegetables, herbs, some fruit, flour (and flowers) -- with the addition of maybe some meat from Highland Hills (also at the Tuesday market) you could make a several-course dinner from what you find at their stand. The atmosphere at this market, as other people have said, is different than that on Saturday: it's smaller, and more friendly and relaxed. It feels like the kind of place you might easily spend a couple of hours, doing a little shopping in between chatting with friends or people you know just from having seen them at the market. read more

I guess I'm bias since I liked the old location better, but it's still the same farmers market and has more vendors in the new location. It's right in front of Sweet Adeline's so just google that when you're looking for where the new tuesday farmers market location is. They also have a couple of new street food vendors. There's an awesome avocado vendor who has passion fruit right now (yes, passion fruit - locally grown). They have the sauerkraut vendors, yoghurt vendors, raw chocolate vendors, vital vittles and more. As other posters have mentioned, parking is a challenge (both for cars and for bikes). Not that it wasn't in the old location but it was at least within walking distance before. read more

The best farmers' market in the whole wide world! Okay, maybe not the whole wide world... but definitely the best in my world ;) Anyhoo, I don't think I realized how much I loved this farmers' market until I recently, but temporarily, moved to LA. Seriously... folks in Berkeley don't know how good they have it. Berkeley has an ALL Organic farmers' market on Tue (my favorite), Thu (also pretty great), and Sat (a little overwhelming). The Santa Monica farmers' market is pretty good (love the raw milk people, organic eggs and pastured chicken folks, the Santa Barbara pistachio stand, and the blueberry guys), it still can't hold a candle to Berkeley's Tue famers' Market. I so miss Dirty Girls' tomatoes, the grape stand, the folks who sell some great Thai food, etc. I can't wait to come back home. I still love this market more than any other in the Bay Area, even after it moved down the street and set up outside Sweet Adeline's. There is a gentleman with a long, white beard who never has a sign for his stall, and in the summer he has the best Rio Oso peaches and the best Blenheim apricots available. In the late fall he has perfectly ripe Hachiya persimmons. I only learned about him because a knowledgeable friend who lives in the area gave me the scoop. At Brickmaiden, you can get the best whole wheat bread made in California, as well as wonderful granola and cookies. At Riverdog Farms, you can get a beautiful carton of eggs at a reasonable price from free-range chickens, in a lovely array of colors from white to green to faintly blue to brown to dark brown with speckles. I gotta give love to the Farmer's Market in my 'hood. Yes, it's expensive; yes, you'll be surrounded by either hippies or hipsters, but it's a terrific place to find great produce (at a hefty price), and other treats (shucked oysters--Yum!--; home made tarts, cheese, etc.). I work too much and don't get home in time to frequent this farmer's market, but on maternity leave, it was like heaven on earth every Thursday. I'd spend at least 30 minutes perusing the fresh produce, get a few oysters, and a home baked treat for my husband. Parking is a bit atrocious, though, so be warned! read more

Still my favorite farmer's market, and now they have BIKE VALET!! Now you can buy twice as much stuff without being weighed down by a lock. And Dirty Girl is a new vendor here too! I just bought a 20 lb box of dry-farmed Early Girls from them (ok, I admit I didn't carry that by bike--I called someone to come pick it up). But if I had a rack, I suppose it would be doable. Anyway, Primavera is here with their tamales, tortillas, and salsas; Phoenix Pastifico with olive bread, desserts, and fresh flavorful pastas, Brickmaiden bread baked in a brick hearth; Catalan, Full Belly, Lucero, and Riverdog for organic produce; Kashiwase for the biggest and most delicious organic fruit; Ludwig for eggs, Massa for organic almonds and rice; Vital Vittles for 100% whole wheat organic breads, Blue Bottle coffee; and those are just the ones I can remember off the top of my head! read more

This is a small and manageable farmer's market - really great for locals, probably not worth coming from any further than berkeley or north oakland for it though. I loved Andy and Cindy's Thai stand, the chicken eggrolls are yummy. Gotta try their red snapper soon. read more
