Small fish shop in North Berkeley. We stopped here on a Sunday afternoon to buy sushi grade sashimi. They had 2 different types of tuna, a whitefish and scallop. Service was friendly and helpful. They also had a lot of fresh oysters, $2 or $2.50 each. Bigger market across the street with tons of fresh vegetables and fruit. I have never seen some of the vegetables at other supermarkets. A little pricier but the freshest vegetables I have seen. We brought the sashimi home to eat. One of them was smelly and tasted fishy so we had to throw it out. The other was fresh and del ious. Taking a star off for the fishy tuna.

Even though I didn't buy any fish at Monterey fish market, it is a place that I intend to go back to when I want to buy FRESH fish. Have you ever been in a fish market where the smell drives you away?? In Monterey Fish Market the air smelled fresh!!! Their selection was amazing with fresh clams, oysters, scallops, and sashimi grade tuna. They also had live crabs and lobsters available. Might as well shop where restaurant chefs shop.

This review is dedicated to my yelp elite sista Josephine who's photo caught my eye. Whaaaaaat how did I miss this place??? I shop at Monterey market all the time as well as the meat market and the cheese shop not to mention the nursery around the corner! I suppose bit depends on when you get here. Perhaps after hours and it's closed I pay it no mind. But a pretty darn good selection of fresh seafood and fish filets ready to prep. 2-night I'm feeling Italian! Ok so that means I'm marinating the just purchased tombo steaks in rosemary infused olive oil, a bit of soy and fresh squeezed lemon. When I grill em on high heat I'm adding fresh ground pepper blend (green red black and white)a bit of garlic salt. Topping the grilled fish with some organic capers, and home made pickled onion. That's served with corkscrew pasta in vodka sauce with sundries tomatoes and roasted red peppers sprinkled with Manchego, Parmesan and Romano blend. I already know it's gonna be awesome! And NO... you can't come over for dinner! That meal, a bottle of wine, some mood lighting ... and it's instant date night at G$ cribbage! Ohh... bab a bayyyyyy beee!

Some of the nicest folks and best fresh fish in the Bay Area are at the Monterey Fish Market. The sashimi cuts of salmon, hamachi, and tuna made for a memorable 2021 Christmas. The friendly fishermen were knowledgeable and willing to give recommendations to a novice like me who has never ordered raw fish or prepared sushi. Come here! Trust.

Seared Miyagi fresh from this market at home. Great start to 2023.

Seems like they have gone downhill. What's happening? It was so great and fish has not looked fresh of late and so exorbitantly expensive.

I vote for a big EOY bonus for both of them! I called this market ahead of time to confirm they carried Everyday Dose collagen (new and amazing product w/ L-Theanine, Lion's mane, Chaga and Cordyceps). I was told they do. An hour long commute later, a kind lady with fiery red hair named April showed me three locations where Collagen could be. They did not have it. I was disappointed and exhausted - long trip for nothing. James, the store manager, offered a free collagen sample from another brand and apologized for the misinformation shared during my phone call. Just as I was checking out, April showed up out of nowhere carrying coffee beans from the same brand infused with collagen I was looking for. A NEW PRODUCT TO TRY WITH COLLAGEN I WAS LOOKING FOR. I went home absolutely thrilled. In a world where people are too busy to care, James and April reminded me how everyday acts of kindness can completely change someone's day.

I rate this restaurant very highly, thank you check please Bay Area!…read moreFirst of all, plenty of parking on the street with mini Solano Avenue shops to pop your head in. The staff at the restaurant are all very kind and welcoming. They seem to really care about your experience. The setting is quite unique: you're surrounded by a Korean small market yet outside the doors you're in getaway of a back patio with trees and foliage surrounding you. Quite serene. As for the food, the menu is quite vast, which I am happy about since I will be back to try everything! This was our second visit and during our first trip we were very happy with the three items we ordered, Rosé rice cakes, Dupp bop spicy pork belly, and Jang pasta w/ pork belly. My wife and I loved the duck bop spicy pork belly because it was not just a huge cube of meat, but instead, it was sliced fin to take on a lot of the good sauce. Today I had the lunch special, which left me extremely satisfied. The portion size was large as I'm a rather large eater anyway... The Bulgogi beef was seasoned perfectly over a bit of cabbage or greens, white rice, and the kimchi spicy pork belly soup as you will see in the image was bubbling hot. Superb but watch out if you can't handle the heat as it is a bit spicy. I would say the prices are fair as well. Reservations were not necessary and attire is very casual.

I recommend going on a Sunday so the 90 minute street parking doesn't apply. We were easily able to get a table for four without reservation. But it was inside. Most people were sitting out on the patio. The back patio is such a cute vibe. It's like a lush garden with mature trees and shade and string lights. I wish they had a separate entrance for it though. I saw a couple people walking their dogs through the restaurant to get to the patio. The market actually has a pretty big selection of items! They even have several large refrigerators. I've never seen so many types of ramen outside a 99 Ranch. We ordered the palace rice cakes, beef cold noodles, spicy tofu, both fried chicken appetizers, and the jang pasta, and drinks. They have a nice selection of drinks that I haven't seen commonly offered at other Korean restaurants before like several types of Korean tea. Everything was delicious! My personal favorites were the jang pasta, palace rice cakes, and the cold noodles. The noodles were perfect to help cleanse the palate from the heavier and spicy menu items. Ur was tasty even without the vinegar. They were very generous with the amount of beef in the rice cakes. It was more beef than rice cake! The cost wasn't bad either. For four people it came out to $145 before tip. The only other suggestion I have is they install an air curtain or mesh curtains to help keep flies out. I really enjoyed Korean Superette and want to go back and hopefully get some groceries too!

The reason I come to this one more often is because it's closer to me in the East Bay. They don't have a lot of organic produce and the prices for all the produce is a bit high for what it is. There's a lot of different pastry booths and there's a Semi Freddy's Cafe close by. The Frog Hollow farm has great fruit and pretty good simple pastries. They also offer their fruit preserves on a discount that is much cheaper than in stores or online. Their apricot preserves is one of their best ones and has the least amount of sugar. I come here quite often to get lunch on the weekends. There's also a really nice rotisserie chicken truck that makes amazing rotisserie chicken for about $17 and they also have rotisserie duck and rotisserie pork. They have a lot of roasted vegetables that can come with their rotisserie meat but unfortunately, all their potatoes and vegetables are covered with animal grease so it is not for people watching their cholesterol. It's easy to pick up a whole rotisserie chicken for a lovely Sunday meal and have leftovers for work for a few days. It's better than any rotisserie chicken from the supermarket but will cost about twice as much. However, you get to see them roast your chicken so you know it's very fresh and the skin is crisp.

Starting with an arresting blow-up of Italian movie star Monica Vitti behind the checkout, it's a visually pleasing emporium because it's not overcrowded with idiosyncratic products. The wine collection is particularly interesting with labels unknown to me. I've been tempted by the delectables in the Grab & Go section, but I've demurred for the sake of discretion. In fact, having almost no knowledge of any of these products, I only recently bought something here because I want to support them. I got a box of Rooibos tea and a jar of Hawaiian masala (Photo 10). I look forward to buying more in the future, though one thought I had was that this store would benefit from samples. On a previous visit, there was a bakery pop-up in front (Photo 8), and I think more of that activity could encourage more in-store traffic. It'll be interesting to see how this business evolves.
