Wow, I can't believe I forgot to review the hotel right after my stay. Then, I remembered to when…read morewithin a couple of weeks of my stay I received a thank you note from them. Yes, you read that right...a personalized, hand written thank you note! To be honest, this lovely boutique historic hotel is far from fancy but what it lacks in glamour is made up in spades by the friendliness of all the employees. These folks will go out of their way to try to accommodate you. They are obviously working their tails off to make a nice hotel, one which will undoubtedly provide every comfort. The room that I stayed in and the others I saw still have quite a way to go in terms of style and comfort but I am confident that they are doing their absolute best to improve every bit. Each member of the staff is putting in crazy hours and energy! I was truly overwhelmed by a couple of things; The chef was the only one there when we checked in and he handled it all. I later learned that in addition to manning the ship when needed at the hotel he does several other jobs outside the hotel. His cooking is amazing! The manager also works mad hours with so much responsibility. A friend/all around handy man of the hotel hung out with us a bit on the patio and we learned that he does a tremendous amount to help there in addition to his other jobs. They were all just super friendly! I can't wait to see what's in store on a return visit.

I love eating for free. Being in downtown MHK, it's a relatively small joint. However, the spacing is easy to navigate, and the decor is very mature. They take themselves seriously, as they should! Anywho, tapas is a very European dining style, with small plates designed to not fill you immediately, so you're able to try several items on the menu in one night. After several visits now, I can say with full confidence that everything on the menu is worth trying and worth the money. The drinks are well measured and nicely balanced. They have experienced staff who know their menu, in the sense that their explanations are very informative. Please, treat yourself and get that basque cheesecake. It's pretty amazing! I'd recommend this to any alumni or parent taking a weekend to watch the cats give a beat down on the gridiron, and looking for a nice, memorable dinner with the family. Once again, students beware! This one isn't cheap! Lol.

I swear the water comes from the fountain of youth but the waitress says it's municipal tap water. The food is unlike anything else in a 50mi radius. (Eat your heart out Topeka :D) This time around I tried the Dutch baby and it was surprisingly tame but the white bean and tomato dip came to the rescue. The fam always loves this place and you should never let down the fam. Just frickin pleasant and ish XD

Wine Dive Kitchen is a lovely restaurant in downtown Manhattan…read more I found them on OpenTable and booked a reservation for dinner on a Friday night. We were able to get in at 8:15. It was a little late, but they were super busy with a large party in a private room. Once we got in and got seated, the delightful server took excellent care of us. My wife wasn't really hungry so she just nibbled off my plate. I started with a half of a wedge salad, which was delicious. They had a special on a piece of paper that night, which was a smoked pastrami, burnt ends sandwich with homemade rye bread. It was glorious! Very creative and fun. Since I don't love fries, they were kind enough to substitute deviled eggs as my side dish. I didn't know there would be an up charge for that but it's okay because they were delicious. We each had two drinks from the bar and they were made very well. They have a huge wine, seller and a great selection as one would expect by the name of the place. This restaurant has other locations in Lawrence and Wichita and I would eat at any of the three. Very cool menu and an amazing wine selection. This is really good food.

Mind you, the restaurant was basically empty....maybe 4 tables the entire time we were there. On a Kstate game day no less. We very obviously did NOT need a reservation. ‍ Then, we got a snarky attitude from our server for asking for a side of simple syrup for my DIL's unsweetened tea. WTH??!? He had previously been super nice up until that point. He snarkily informed me that he could do that but there would be a charge. Whatever. It was 50 cents for an ounce of sugar water. Anyway, the food was "okay", nothing to write home about. My DIL did really like her burger and our deviled eggs appetizer was great. Something really weird was my scrambled eggs had tiny bits of sausage scrambled into them. I did not like them at all and nowhere on the menu does it indicate there will be sausage in the scrambled eggs. I definitely would not return and do not recommend. Not a very pleasant experience.
