We are a small, non diverse community. The school battles many topics do to this reality. However, the school administration is aware and deals with issues fairly and appropriately.

That part did not seem to be considered in how the situation was handled. I'm sharing this so other parents are aware: If your financial situation changes, there may be limited options, and the outcome can be immediate. We have been a Chapin family for eleven years…read more My older daughter had attended Chapin since pre-k and graduated last year. She was more than ready to take on the challenges of secondary school. Her freshman year was an academic success! Throughout her years at Chapin, she has grown to be an independent, well-rounded individual. She's not afraid to email teachers about assignments, ask questions when she is uncertain about something discussed during class, or voice her opinion about anything. We owe those positive attributes to Chapin. My younger daughter has also attended Chapin since pre-k. She continues to amaze us with how much she's learned in just a short amount of time. We owe that to the excellent Chapin teachers who not only educate their students but also care about their growth and development. My husband and I are excited for my little one to experience all that Chapin has to offer in the coming years. Chapin is an extraordinary school. The decision to send our children here is one of the best decisions that my husband and I have ever made.

The lessons are rushed and hardly any active engagement is allowed from the students. There are only suppose to be 17 students in each class however the staff finds only doing less than 2 hours of active instruction is more convenient for them so there is no real bond made with any student. They act like robots on a script. There is no science in the curriculum. As a result my child feels no connection with the educators and is uninspired to learn as the curriculum is designed below grade level with no options for further enrichment. I have no choice but to look elsewhere to find educational support for my child. Their excuses are priceless as a concerned parent and brushed off completely.

But all her teachers were good. The Home & School association is fantastic helping the school with a $34k budget with things like field trips and school supplies. There is a new principal for 2012-2013 so that may change things -- or it may not. The staff and parent organization is strong enough to keep the good momentum going no matter what.
