What I will say this is far removed from all of the fancier hotels like Lanikai etc. this place is more residential for people that are looking for longer-term stays, and it's to my knowing that a separate building within the property is for residence or long-term stays. I do understand that some people have an issue with the tenants that live here versus those staying here on vacation. I luckily had no issues whatsoever. My blankets did not smell clean and I noticed some dried blood on it. During the night we heard loud puking noises in the shared bathroom around 2-3am. It echoed and was super loud. I felt afraid to use the bathroom. In the morning my friend who is highly connected to spirits said that she had a dream about the mirror and dresser that was in our room. In her dream the woman who owned the old dresser and mirror told her about it and about herself. My friend said she was a friendly spirit and didn't feel scared. The hotel definitely feels haunted. If you like that vibe, totally go for it! It was quite the experience.

I did like meeting the geckos that look like the GEICO gecko during breakfast who were wanting fruit. Cons: there's no AC. Also I was woken up by I think a rooster at 5 am. Roads are severely dark that you cannot differentiate between driving/reversing onto road or out to sea *yikes*. Once you finally arrive at your destination, keep on driving up the hill until you reach the end. Don't forget, it is crazy dark outside, don't be alarmed by the sounds of nature. You'll park to the side next to the other 4 cars by the garage (not into it) and quietly find directions on a pin with your name on it. Come quietly inside as you make your way to the room. If you survive the night (which, you will), you'll find yourself on what looks like heaven; beautiful oceanview windows overlooking the bay. When you come down, you'll be greeted by the sweetest angel, Hannah. You'll find her in the kitchen in the morning making an all you can eat breakfast. Don't be rude! Say hello, grab a coffee, make your way to the patio and find a table. Hannah will let you know when all is ready based on first-out on the patio. When asked what was my favorite meal in Hawaii, hands down, I say Hannah's breakfast. She made delicious Banana Nut Waffles topped with macadamia nuts tossed in coconut oil and syrup. He hustled food for us back and forth and was apologetic for the wait. ~ location near everything and the grounds were BEAUTIFUL! Plenty to see just walking around the resort. ~ Luau on site twice a week. Great entertainment. Purchase tickets early to avoid selling out. ~ Complimentary bag and water bottles. Hawaii is very green so keep and use these reusable options for your stay and shopping. ~ There are plenty of on site activities to do throughout the week that are included with resort fees. Be sure to sign up ahead of time. ~ Farmer's Market on site twice a week was a nice option. Good food, snacks, and shopping from local vendors. Food truck night once a week with plenty of local eat options. ~ Most of the night Manta Ray groups take off and park on the same property so take advantage that the opportunity is a short walk from your hotel room. ~ Hilo, the volcano, and most major tourist activities were within a 2 hour drive. Renting a car is suggested for long/far trips as ride share/bus/taxis are limited or do not exist in some of the further/more rural locations. ~ Walmart, Costco, Target, and CVS/Longs were all within a 15-30 minute drive from the resort if you need to get some groceries or necessities. ~ They offer complimentary coral reef safe sunblock near the pools. Please use and take advantage if you are planning to visit the ocean water. ~ Room was spacious and comfortable. Bed was comfortable. Great large patio with table and chairs. Felt like home. ~ 2 separate pools. One large pool for families with a big water slide. A separate adult pool for relaxing. ~ 30 minute drive to Kona airport ~ AC in room works WELL. THE BAD: ~ found a roach running around outside my door. ~ my room was dirty when I arrived. I found Dog kibble and dry lettuce on the carpet when I arrived. Housekeeping did not vacuum sand on my carpet the entire week. Shower floor looked dirty, like it had not been washed. ~ my balcony reeked of dog urine when I arrived. ~ shower faucet and sink faucet both leaked my entire stay. ~ valet and restaurant staff can be loud enough to hear from 4 floors above with windows closed. Banging and clanging of dishes and utensils before 7am as they prepare for breakfast. Valet guys joking, yelling and teasing each other loudly. ~ I found dry blood on my bed sheets, comforter, bathroom door, bathroom outlet cover, and bathroom wall. ~ Onsite food options are very limited and there isn't anything else within walking distance. ~ I found a moldy bread product for sale at the counter in the store on site. I did not go back to purchase anything from there after that. ~ Service at the pool side bar/grill is hard. They are busy and working hard, so be patient. We waited 30 minutes- 1.5 hours for food some days. I sat and waited at the bar on 2 separate occasions for 30 minutes and was not serviced. I heard "I will be with you soon", but the young lady at the counter served people who walked up to the bar after me. I left and found other options. ~ I found a large puddle of water on the floor in the ice room and slipped as I walked in. I notified management right away, but was disappointed an employee had not noticed it sooner. The puddle was very large which means the water had been leaking for a while.

But the owner would not give us any money back for the 3 unused nights, not even a partial refund. I was very disappointed. If you are considering booking here. Just don't. Not worth it.

I provided documentation showing that I booked the Kukui Cabin. However, I was placed in a different accommodation with an outdoor composting toilet and an exposed outdoor shower. The property claimed I requested the Bamboo Cabin, but when I asked for documentation, they failed to provide any. They later denied my refund/dispute by calling the substituted room an "upgrade," even though I never requested or agreed to the change. I was also concerned about the lack of standard room security. Their website did not clearly disclose this, and their response was simply that it had been that way for over 30 years with no issues and that I should have read their reviews. I have filed a complaint with the Hawaii Office of Consumer Protection and am prepared to pursue appropriate legal remedies. I would not book here again unless you are comfortable paying premium lodging prices for what felt more like camping in the wilderness.

We were all cozy in the Writer's Studio. Barbara and Phoenix were my two favorite people I met on the island. Typically I avoid people in the morning. After the first morning, I looked forward to seeing them with my cup of coffee. In fact, I kept my ear out for them with love and curiosity. Breakfast was great with our morning visits from the green anole. In the shower, hot water came after the suggested four minute waiting period and my daughters and I all showered in succession with no break of warmth. We played chess and read tarot cards. We cuddled with their animals and watched the exotic birds dance in the trees. I didn't want to be around the rich, resort crowd. In fact, I loathe them. I wanted to be in the jungle, sleeping in my clothes, relaxing in my den. There is a place I love in Joshua Tree called Hicksville I faithfully visit any chance I get. I feel the same way about Dragonfly Ranch.

Oh and there's roaches/roach crap ON THE BEDS and in the kitchen, mice in the rooms, and ants crawled into my friends bed and got into her meds. I get it's Hawaii but this is ridiculous. On the surface level it's charming but it's infested. If you don't telepathically read Annie's mind that you need to pay 50% upfront, you're gonna get the threat of the police called on you.
