View of the ocean from the LARGE lanai (deck), one of a handful of spaces to hang out.

Such a wonderful place. Lots of great covered spaces to hang out and view the ocean and the sunsets. Kitchen has lots of space and all the utensils one needs to cook (and save $ by not eating out all the time). I came without a car, and the staff at the Hostel connected me to others who would make it easy for me to jump in with them to do fun activities. I stayed in the 4-bed dorm for females, and saw a private room- VERY NICE, both options. Although Uber and Lyft do work here in HI, the owner, Annie, connected me to someone staying at the Hostel for a ride to airport at less cost than uber....and she showed me the sights on the way through town. Lovely. Coffee Shop directly across the street (but free coffee at the Hostel each morning), HiCO made great avo-toast and smoothies, and pastries. Nice little mini-mart within sight of the Hostel, fo last minute snacks and drinks. I will definitely share this place with friends looking for nice affordable space on West side Hawaii. You will not be disappointed!

We had a great experience at pineapple park hostel. We had the private room with the bathroom. Very clean. The nice lady that runs it was very friendly and helpful. The views are great and the common areas were comfortable. We enjoyed looking at the different types of plants they had around the property as well. Would definitely recommend.

I only stayed for a night but it was a good experience. The staff was friendly and helpful and the room was clean, quiet and comfortable for me. The outdoor shower was the best!! There's a mini mart right across the street and some food about a mile walking but be careful on the road, especially at night. My only complaint is that your not really close to anything you can do walking distance. But thats on me for not having a car/planning ahead.

    relaxing views

I had an awesome short little stay at PPH. everybody I encountered was super kind and respectful. I stayed in a female dorm but was the only person in the room that night. I had access to a nice clean kitchen and bathrooms. I would definitely stay again, and I plan to in the future with more friends! The outdoor spaces to relax in were lovely. everything was spotless

This hostel is a bit of paradise on the island. With character and kitsch its; clean, friendly and comfortable. The kitchen has what you need to prepare a meal and my bed was comfortable. The views are fantastic so plan on watching the sunset some night from the second floor.

Ask the Community - Pineapple Park Hostel - Kona

Hi, I was just wondering about the manta ray snorkel discount advertised on the pineapple park website? They seem to be a little cheaper but little can be found on their website regarding the details (what time, how to book, what company). Thanks!

There is a connection with a local Guide, John, at Hawaii Ocean Tours, so if you say you are coming from the Hostel, you get a bit of a discount. We booked last minute, about three day sin advance, and had a great time. We waited for the weather… Read more

The restaurant located within the hotel is extremely noteworthy and well-known across the whole island, many people simply come here just to have breakfast lunch and or dinner. The pork chops have been written about all over travel sites and I must say I can still remember how delicious they were. A yelp or just like the photo that I took from this hotel, and it reminded me that I never added my review. I will be back on the island in the new year and look forward to coming back. What I will say this is far removed from all of the fancier hotels like Lanikai etc. this place is more residential for people that are looking for longer-term stays, and it's to my knowing that a separate building within the property is for residence or long-term stays. I do understand that some people have an issue with the tenants that live here versus those staying here on vacation. I luckily had no issues whatsoever. Don't forget to tip your housekeeper or leave a nice tip on the dresser before you leave

Must have AC in hotel! .3 miles to beach, NP! .3 miles to beach, car please! No closed door? NP! Can't close the door? WTF? Big Island Retreat, I thought this was a great place 5 years ago. I was okay not being able to completely close all the windows, listening to all the outside noises of wildlife, ocean waves, and other annoying human guests. No air conditioning, but I could tolerate the Hawaii's warm humid weather. A .3 mile walk in flip flips to the incredible Kahaluu beach with chair, snorkeling gear, towel, and refreshments was no biggie. Now that I'm older...I need to close all the windows and doors to keep out the noises out...and I don't everyone else hearing my noises, especially the romantic kind. The Orchid Room's balcony only had a screen door, no real door for privacy, so weird! Even if I could close the door, it would get really hot and humid since there is no AC. Nearby Kahaluu beach is amazing and a short walk away...but in wet flip flops and carrying gear it seems so much longer in 40s than in my 30s. The 2 story Ocean View room I had back in 2016 was more tolerable and private...the Orchid Room not so much. At under $200/night its actually still one of the more affordable places to stay in Kona. The Orchid room had an ocean view balcony, coffee maker, toaster, fridge, beach gear, and a TV you can't use after 8pm because its too loud since I can't fully close my balcony door. I might stay here again if its the Ocean View room, otherwise I'm looking for a hotel with air conditioning and doors I can fully close...maybe I'm just getting older, whinier, and crankier.

Ryan and Jasmine are the perfect hosts and they both radiate the love they have for the land, and everyone who joins them at the Sanctuary can feel it. When you put your foot on the land you can feel the love they have for the land and can see everything it is giving back. The land vibrates at a frequency that flows over you and clams your nervous system. Within minutes of being there you feel the calmness and serenity of the land and find yourself taking a deep breath exhaling and feel your body relaxing. Walking the land and seeing what Ryan is doing with his planting practices makes you understand what is happening there. It rained most nights when we were there and the gentle pattering of the rain on the roof is a wonderful way to fall asleep. If you're lucky enough to be there during rainy season you will understand why they call it a rain forest. There are so many fruit trees on the property there is always something fresh to pick or new fruit to try. There is a banana plant before the gate to the parking area where you can grab a few bananas before you take off for a day of adventures around the island. If you stay on the big island, staying a few nights at Hamakua Sanctuary will be the highlight of your trip, but I suggest a few weeks to really get to know the land and people who visit the sanctuary. We met so many wonderful people in the outdoor kitchen every morning at breakfast with baskets of fresh fruit and veggies picked and ready for you to cut up and sample. Some mornings we would all eat together and talk about our adventures the prior day. Connecting with people from all over the country and world. The space itself goes above and beyond. The house is beautiful, well-kept, well-appointed, extremely clean, peaceful and serene, with character for days. The sheets and bedding are luxurious. Stunning, sun-soaked kitchen. Cute bathroom with a full tub! Gorgeous, big screened-in lanai (porch) for yoga, meditation, reading, or what have you. Separate structure just below the main house offers a peaceful little meditation studio. I have never seen anything like it. It was a joy to putter around the property and sit with all the wonderful beings that live there - from humans to dog and cat friends, duckies, and birds. The road on which this property is situated is quiet and pastoral with beautiful vistas, flowers, trees and more along the way. I highly recommend taking a leisurely stroll during your stay.
