I've traveled to Hawaii multiple times and will do my best to explain my stay here at this resort…read more I do think that the resort had a very friendly and very quick staff, the pools also were nice. However the rooms feel unprepared. My room had no shampoo, conditioner, or body wash. And the shower looked like it wasn't cleaned well. A lot of people complain about food being expensive, but resort food in Hawaii is always expensive. I recommend to get out of the resort you're staying at and explore the city's local restaurants, it's almost always a more affordable and enjoyable experience. The hotel does have sone nice family activities. I will say one thing I was extremely disappointed on was the beaches, I would definitely not recommend coming to this resort if you are looking for good beaches to swim in or to explore. This resort had no beaches, instead it had a bay for paddle boarding but that's about it. Another thing I was extremely disappointed on was the amount of closed areas in the hotel. It felt unnecessary and unprofessional. The scenery is very beautiful. Then again, almost any place in Hawaii is extraordinary. This resort specifically had an amazing view of the slope of Kona. It almost felt like I was in California but a much more tropical and pretty version of California. One of the best parts about this hotel is that it's close to the Keauhou Bay, which offers multiple fun activities including the manta ray experience.

Very convenient for our needs, close to Holualoa and Kealakekua and pretty close to Kailua-Kona so very central for us and Holua Resort is nice. The staff from check-in & consigliere were all so nice and displayed the Aloha spirit, welcome to Hawaii. Highly recommend staying here of you're looking for a combination of resort & local feeling vs the high-end hotel resort type feeling.

Where to start? In…read morethe bathroom with black mold in the showers, the loose toilet that is no longer attached to the floor, the wash basin that has been chipped and cracked for years? Or we could start in the kitchen where appliances are rusted out and dented, the decades old cabinets are off their hinges and no longer close and are so worn that the paint has flaked off and they are down to bare wood? We could start with the rusted out balconies or how about the stained upholstery on the living room couch? And how about the walls that haven't been painted in years? Maybe we could start with the lack of housekeeping and even if you are staying here for weeks, if you want the condo cleaned, sheets changed, clean towels, you have to do it yourself (they claim it is because of Covid even though it is now 2025). And how about those swimming pools which for years have not been maintained. Jagged broken tiles on the pool decks where you can cut your feet, and the black algae on the pool bottoms. They are filthy. And then there is the dead tropical landscaping and lack of gardeners. Management here says they know the place is a dump, but Wyndham refuses to spend any money on upkeep. They say Wyndham collects the money then diverts it to other resorts where maintenance is taking place. Basically, they have just let the place go to where it is more like a slum than a resort. Do yourself a favor ... do not stay here. If you want to stay at a Wyndham resort, try the Royal Sea Cliff just down the road. Holua "Resort"/Mauna Loa really is absolutely disgusting.

The lady who checked us in was amazing and super attentive without bombarding us. Super helpful but very in tune withe fact we were dragging. We absolutely loved our suite! Everything was great and we have no complaints at all. The air conditioning was crisp, the bed comfy with plenty of pillows, and the shower was perfect all around. We loved it and are already planning another visit. We were incredibly pleased with how well our stay was. Oh, and when we called for a few things, they were so fast to bring it to us!

She was so fast that she explained that we had to pay for airconditioning in our unit but DIDN'T explain that we needed a key to use air conditioning. We spent one night with all the windows open because it was so hot. We called maintainance in the morning. He was so nice and asked us if we received a key, I said no and didn't know we needed one. He ran down and went to the front desk, grabbed a key. Air conditioning turned on (took a couple of hours) and we were cooler for the evening and the rest of our stay. Our unit was a two bedroom with two bathrooms, located on the second floor. Front door was difficult to open, so make sure you have empty hands to push the door open. At front door, fresh swimming pool towels waiting. Great size for a family of 4-8 people. Large living room, large bedrooms that others can sleep on the floor no problem. Beds were both king size and were very comfortable. Ktichen and dinning room were large with a long counter top, good for buffet style and long table with 6 chairs. Patio also had a long table. We will definitely come again. We know what to expect now.

This may not be a great place for people who are looking for a night life, five star dining, or a busy shopping strip. This hotel is located next to a small road lined up with small restaurants and shops. Personally, we love it. We love it so much we have stayed here twice. Our kids enjoy the easy access from our room to the pool to the beach and back. We appreciate this place for it's simplicity. Our first visit we stayed on a regular floor and felt that some rooms needed a little refresh (although not terrible). Our second visit we stayed in the Marriott Bonvoy floor so the rooms were a little more refreshed (updated). We enjoyed the water refill station, all floors should have one. Staff - Staff has all been helpful and pleasant. Pool staff is the best. Pool - Our favorite place. We spend most of our time here. We love that they give you a wristband now so that it keeps out non-guests. Towels are passed out with a card given at check-in. It's easy and convenient. Pool staff walks around often and takes drink and food orders as needed. Beach chairs are a first come first serve basis, but we've never had an issue finding any. Beach - The convenience of having the beach at your fingertips is unmatched. My kids go from the beach to the pool multiple times a day. The beach is not usually crowded and you can find a spot to lay out a towel. If you would like to rent an umbrella and chair you can visit the rental booth right next to the beach - it is easy and convenient. If you are a hotel guest, you get one free rental (I don't remember the length) during your stay. This is a great snorkeling spot too and you can also rent a paddle board. We usually bring our own snorkeling gear, but renting is available too. Our kids are older and chose to snorkel near the port, but be aware the current/waves are stronger there. I would NOT recommend it for young kids, especially not without a vest. Food - We never ate at the restaurant. We grabbed coffee and breakfast from the coffee shop downstairs. It's pricey, but not bad considering the convenience. We also chose to walk across the street to eat breakfast and lunch. For dinner, we usually took a stroll down the main road to find a place to eat. There are PLENTY of options. Snow cone hours are odd at times, but if it's closed there is a great place across the street as a secondary option. There is an ABC store right next to the hotel. We opted to buy alcohol and snacks to keep in our room in our mini fridge. ___________________________________ MY CON: Sigh.... Our 2nd stay was during the TSUNAMI WARNING on July 29, 2025 - we didn't have a rental car until the next day so we had to rely on the hotel to relocate us to the local high school. It was also my child's birthday so we spent it evacuated. A lot of the guest who didn't have a car had to leave to the high school with no food and no water. We grabbed what we could and lined up for the bus. The ABC closed once the sirens went off, so we were left with no food. We were given NO instructions, we were only told to get on the bus and go. We had only ate breakfast and you can't imagine how hungry we were. No one had a car. No Ubers available. No restaurants open. We were lucky enough to find a worker who was kind enough to take my husband and another dad to a gas station to grab some items for our kids to eat. Yay to gas station sandwiches and Powerades. Once the emergency was cleared (10 hours later), we were allowed to come back to our hotel. Staff welcomed us back with a water bottle and a bag of chips (sigh). I was so annoyed by this gesture. I cannot explain why, because I shouldn't be - but I was. I am grateful and thankful that our family was safe. I am glad that we had the option to be bussed to the evacuation center. HOWEVER, in the future - staff should have an emergency plan in place to share with guest. There needs to be a form of communication for guest to receive updates. We were left with NO information, just dumped off. It was a very scary experience for us and having more details would have helped.

The unit we were in was nicely furnished and clean. We did not ask for a first floor unit so we had to lug our bags up the stairs, but the layout of the unit was great. Huge master bedroom with a desk area and huge master bath with vanity, large shower. A/C: Note there's a daily charge (because you can take advantage of the ceiling fans in the rooms and the ocean breeze is you prefer) and it's worth it. (Electricity is expensive in Kona). Only drawback was we had to go back to the front desk for new batteries for the remote. A/C worked very well. Our unit's kitchen has the basic plates, cups, utensils, even grilling utensils. There were plastic cups to take poolside (no glass allowed). Gated community, so you get a gate card. Be sure to return it and the A/C remote or you'll get charged.
