This place is a sports centre and about 25 miles from where we live. I'm not a sporting person: I've never knowingly gone into a gym, but it's here that the senior admin managers of the Southern Health Trust decree where we go for our hospital dispensed Covid 19 vaccines in our region and they do seem to be continually, wilfully, undermining and underfunding our local Newry hospital.
Our townsfolk took to the streets before to save our hospital and we must be ever vigilant.
A sports centre is an odd choice for medical treatments and as it's in the middle of nowhere the decision to put it here forces thousands of folks to drive for miles but the senior admin managers of this Trust never fail to do the wrong thing unless it's to their benefit.
Using a Newry hospital site would have convenienced many thousands of people around south down and saved thousands of wasted miles.
I suspect the only way to get to this sports centre, even if you live in Craigavon, or the equally jointly awful Lurgan or Portadown is by car.
So pity the very old trying to negotiate all the roundabouts to get here.
It was accurately reported a few weeks ago (February 21) that the Southern Trust's senior management, including back-room HR and its chief executive all jumped to queue to get Covid vaccinated - they selfishly did this ahead of the very old and those folks who are extremely clinically vunerable - after an initial fuss all died down (as they knew it would) and not one of these chancers lost their job when they sack junior staff for little to nothing - the chief executive should have been fired immediately because he lacks the moral fibre to resign. I bet they didn't have to go here to queue for their vaccines.
So for us the 50 mile round trip was the first of two vaccines today for my wife (I'll get mine from my GP a half mile away) and she returns for the second in May. The vaccine she got is the one to be kept at minus 80.
The nursing and ancillary staff whether in a hospital setting or here are always competent and Uber friendly/helpful, I mean in all our contacts they always go out of their way to be kind; so here is an inverse ratio, the lower down the pay scale the nicer, more competent, helpful and decent the staff are.
And mark my words all our self serving politicians now singing deserved praise to them now will happily vote to refuse them pay awards next time round just as they have done for almost all the last 10 years eroding incomes causing real pay cuts. There's still no vaccine for lying treacherous sdratsab. read more
