When the Grand (Hyatt) Wailea opened in 1991, it was and still is the most boujee resort on the…read morerock. Hence, one of the unique features of their utopian water playground is a water elevator, touted back then as "the world's only". Located on the pool's lowest level, a mysterious stainless steel door is built into the manmade rock feature, visible halfway out of the water. The attendant opens said door to reveal an open-air chamber, with a circular platform and tube wrapped in thick rope which is what you sit on for the ride. About 6-8 people can ride at once depending on size. The door closes, followed by a waterfall that pours into the chamber from above, in turn lifting the tube to the top of the chamber. This brings you to the upper most level of the tiered pools where you can begin your journey to the bottom again via several slides, rapids and lazy river. OVERALL: Still the most fun hotel pool on Maui.

I hardly ever see anybody using this park, but I don't frequent it very often. It appears to be well-maintained and easily accessible. There were a lot of flies, possibly because it does get used by dogs a lot. There are not very many dog parks on Maui, so it's good to know this is here if you live on the southside.

You pay 5 bucks to rent skates.. tell them your size and off you go. They had kids helping them get the skates and things. It sad pretty empty at first with just a few skaters. Then maybe about 7ish everyone started coming in. They do a rotation every once in a while where you skate in a certain way then you change. They had experienced skaters and beginners. Is dri cute to ser the keiki have fun. It gives the teenagers something to do on a weekend. They're not open every night I think I heard Wednesday's and fridays and Saturdays. You can't drink alcohol here. I noticed they sold water 1 dollar a bottle. You do have to walk thru the park to get here. be careful of your surroundings. The homeless people are here. This place is fun for the keiki to enjoy and stay out of trouble.

We stopped by the Kealia Pond National Wildlife Refuge on a rainy day. The visitor's center was…read morevery interesting, and had nice clean bathrooms. The Friends of the pond organization had reasonably priced gifts, such as magnets and t-shirts. We drove from the visitor's center over to the ponds, but we could have walked. There were a lot of Black-necked stilts (AKA Hawaiian Stilt) and a few other birds, but not many due to the weather. We returned the next day under better weather, first stopping at the Kealia Bird Sanctuary board walk. Again, not many birds, but it was a nice visit. The boardwalk has a couple of spots where you are invited to take a picture from a phone holder and then submit it via email. You will then get a link to a page of time-lapsed photos taken by visitors over the years. It was interesting to see the ebb and flow of the ponds. All in all, a very nice stop with friendly staff at the center.
