At the time, our daughter was about 10 and so youth ministry was important as well. It's true there's a big difference between attending a church as a visitor as opposed to being a member. I find the people at St. John's Church to be serious in their worship and they genuinely welcome any body who wants to attend our church. Most of the congregation may be somewhat laid back about seeking out visitors. This-unfortunately--is common in most churches. I suggest you visit us 3 times to get a broader feel for what we offer. Fill out and wear a name tag. We have a significant number of young families at St. John's. Along with that, we have a strong education package for ages 5-adult. A church should have two general purposes: First, to strengthen your relationship with God; Second, to strengthen your relationships with each other. I believe this mission is done well, but remember as a guest, it's very important you introduce yourself to at least the Pastor. We may even have a gift for you. If you're looking for a church, come and check us out; Do the St. John's Three-Peat by visiting us 3 times. We're a church growing in number and in the Spirit...I love it here.

I love the desserts and they sell flat bread which I like more than pita bread. What made me think of this place today is the annual falafel dinner during lent. A very generous portion and plenty of tahini sauce and pickled veggies to dress it up. This is a tradition started by Father John Khoury. They often have well known guest speakers for education. The church is a center for many Orthodox events that interest the non-Orthodox as well. They have had wonderful parish priests through the years up to the present Fr. John Mangels. Their food is amazing and OMG the garlic!! This is a yearly event and the location is amazing the church does a great job and the area is clean. It was also fun to watch the people sing and dance and the kids play games and the adults get onto the camel for selfies.

They validate parking if you park in the RiverPlace parking ramp otherwise there are meters on Main Street & on 2nd Street SE. The congregation are a mix of retired couples, young families, U of M students and lone souls like me. They are very welcoming. They have a Men's Group the 4th Tuesday of every month. They have a young adults group too.

How did they know I was coming ;-) The Mass was one hour sharp: the homily was very instructive. Fewer children at this time. Parking was pay parking (1$/hour), but could have parked for free 300 yards away and walked in 4 degrees ;-) The organ was very loud and I could not hear what people were singing. I think I will come back soon and may be take part in the activities, even though my church is 1/2 mile away. I can do two Churches, I think, and call myself poly-churchiest. What a beautiful mass celebrating these kids achievements and taking that next step in the catholic faith. The staff member who started all of the songs/hymns has a voice of an angel. Miracles do happen... sometimes. This is an amazing…read morecathedral with interesting history and magnificent architecture!! A must see for out-of-town visitors as this is the cathedral from which the city got its name; it's also the third largest Catholic cathedral in the nation. If you're an out of town tourist staying in the downtown area, the 21 bus will take you right to it. It is open to the public and the inside is beautiful and pristine. I was there late morning on May 8, 2025 and around 11:10am, ALL the church bells started chiming! It was a wonderful feeling inside listening to the beautiful bells! I later learned that it was the moment the new pope was elected. A small miracle, and a wonderful blessing, I would say. May all your wishes and prayers come true.

Before covid, we liked going Saturday at 5, so our Sundays were free. Now they just have Sunday services, 2 of them. Covid also ruined the live animals at Christmas which was really cool. We have become a little irritated with 2 pastors and their liberal ideals. Although they can't promote politics, it is blatantly clear who they support. 2 sermons were about the upcoming election. Church is not the place. We are upset enough to look elsewhere.
