Jessie also gave me an excellent recommendation for someone to help me shuttle my car from one trailhead to another - Rose was phenomenal and so knowledgeable of the area and best places to park my car in the morning. I was able to secure a parking spot right in front of the house both nights, but there is also a well-lit, free, public parking lot just steps behind the back of the house!! Perfect! I could not have asked for better people taking care of me this weekend! I highly recommend Bay Farms B&B, especially, if you are biking/hiking/walking the C&O Canal Towpath!

We accidentally booked our hotel for the wrong year and showed up without the reservation we thought we had. The staff could have easily turned us away, but instead they went above and beyond to help us! They found us an apartment when we had originally booked a small single room and even honored the same price we would have paid through Expedia. They were incredibly kind, accommodating, and genuinely wanted to make sure we had a place to stay so we didn't have to keep driving around searching for a hotel. That kind of customer service is priceless! If you're visiting Harpers Ferry, I highly recommend Light Horse. Five stars all the way! We are so grateful for how they took care of us!

The king-sized bed was comfortably firm. The furnishings were beautiful throughout the property -- which, as it turns out, we had completely to ourselves -- and included two public sitting rooms. Innkeeper Meghan cooked a delicious included breakfast. Harpers Ferry is a 15-minute walk, so we had no need to drive there from the Inn. One quibble: the Inn's website mentions a full-service bar on the property. This amenity doesn't currently exist. I recommend the Light Horse Inn!

Featured in This Old House Magazine, this 18th Century log home has been lovingly restored with colonial detail and modern conveniences. It is a perfect private getaway, full of warmth and charm. Owners, Gina and Ted Blake are unbelievable hosts. The house sleeps five people comfortably, and includes a modern kitchen and (single) bathroom, as well as, central heat and air conditioning. The modern kitchen comes stocked with fresh fruit, coffee, eggs, cereals and other breakfast items - if you remain hungry at 11am, it's your own fault! The food and pantry are totally stocked with every need. Only thing, don't expect a oven... but there is a microwave. The kitchen otherwise comes with a full size refrigerator, stove top (with pans and pots), toaster and charcoal grill. We took our horse there, and enjoyed the facilities... as did our horse. She didn't want to get back on the trailer when it was time to leave! Bottom line: We're already planning to book again in a year.

It was a perfect end to our snowy Saturday! We drove up to the house all lit up under a blanket of snow and quickly were oohing and ahhing at the fantastic interior. Gina and Ted are friendly and laid-back, and the house itself is comfortable and cozy. The kitchen lacks an oven so we were glad we had planned to make a big pot of risotto for dinner, but they generously stock the fridge with breakfast foods--and we arrived to find a beautiful lemon cake, as well (Gina sometimes brings leftover stock from a nearby cake shop for guests of the cottage). The house sleeps five very comfortably--we were asked ahead of time whether we preferred 5 twins or 2 kings and a twin, which was really nice since we were five girls traveling together. There is only one bathroom, but it worked out fine, even with all females :) The central heat was great--we had anticipated a chilly old cottage but it was REALLY warm and cozy inside--the perfect spot for cooking together and playing Taboo :) We plan to go back next year (if not sooner). The ONLY thing that we really wished it had was a working fireplace--there is a fireplace but it does not appear to work. There's an outdoor fire pit, but there was too much snow to enjoy that the night we were there. So we made our s'mores with homemade marshmallows in the microwave :) The furnishings are quaint, the house is adorable, and the setting is beautiful. We opened the door in the morning to find Ted and Gina's dog sitting on the porch, and they came over and chatted with us while they fed the horses. They were extremely friendly, and told us to stay as long as we wanted since there were no guests the following night. If you stay, be sure to check out the photo album that documents them rebuilding the house--it's pretty amazing!

The gardens are beautiful and there's a huge lawn and pond across the road where my Dad goes fishing if we have the time. The breakfasts are awesome, with plenty of fresh cut fruit, eggs and pancakes, coffee and tea. The rooms are comfortable and old fashioned, with period furniture and decorations such as quilts on the beds. The family golden retriever will greet you at the door, and there's a TV room downstairs, and deck with rocking chairs overlooking the garden. It's a very comfortable and relaxing place.

On my multiple trips back and forth on I-70 I usually bypass this rest stop, it's in a weird area…read more For more than one reason. Recently I had to stop because I needed to do some work related stuff. It also didn't hurt that I needed to use the facilities. Getting off at this rest stop can be a bit tricky. This sits at the top of a crest where three lanes of traffic (used to allow for slower moving big rigs to be on the right) goes down to two. So if you are scurrying along to pass those big rigs, you may miss it or have to cut it close to make the exit to the rest stop. Once on the lot, just follow the signs to where regular cars/trucks/suvs would go. The building on the grounds are what you would expect at a rest stop. They do have some things here that are to entertain or educate you, but they have been directly in the sunlight so much that they are bleached or just plain old destroyed. Facilities are well taken care of and usable. My main purpose here was to do a real quick work thing and then continue on my way. The cell service here is bad. I had LTE at most and did not matter what I was trying to do, just would not work. Totally not their fault, but if it is against the law to text or hold a handheld device while driving, they might want to invest in WiFi or something at these rest stops. Getting back onto the highway is a bit tricky as well. Leaving from the regular vehicle lot you go on what feels like a winding country road. Then you have to rush yourself in hopes that you can make it back on the highway without causing any delays.

It's an entire campus with several buildings. There are a few buildings for lodging. They are not cabins, but set up more like a motel with rooms with nice beds and a shower. They main center houses the dining hall and conference rooms. Next to that is a building with a coffee shop and the gym is behind this with a basketball and volleyball courts. On the property there's zip lining. If you're a runner, there are many trails to run (or hike). It's a great place for families and your kids will love all the activities! The only downside is the food (unless you already know retreat center food is the worst). It's better than awful, but still nothing to write home about (and everything they make is sooooo unhealthy). They do have a salad bar and chocolate milk, so #winning.
