First time we have been able to go away for our anniversary-ever. The cabin is beautiful, secluded and wonderfully stocked and clean. This is our 6th time renting from this company so we knew what to expect. However, this is the first time we had a problem. The hot tub did not work. It would not heat. Gary, from maintenance was wonderful and came and tried to fix it but it needed parts he could not get over a weekend. We were extremely disappointed because this was a big reason we came here and paid extra was to have a hot tub. Ok, things break. Biggest issue for me though was the lack of communication. First, when Steph, the owner did contact me it was through email, which I did not check because I am on vacation and they have my number. Then when she did actually call-the day after we reported the issue, she suggested we could use the cold hot tub. Also, the problem was electrical so, no not going to sit in a cold hot tub full of water with an electrical problem. She proceeded to then tell us that she would contact us later that day about a discount. That was yesterday morning, it is now 11 pm the next day and we are leaving tomorrow. I called her this morning, had to leave a voicemail, requested a call or even a text rather than an email to get an update on repairs and to discuss that discount. No call, no text. Zero communication. I cannot begin to express how utterly disappointed I am not only because I did not get to soak in a hot tub for 3 days like I planned, but on top of that the absolute lack of communication and complete disregard for us. She did not even ever say she was sorry this happened. Not once. Very bitterly disappointed. I still gave three stars because thanks to Ashley, the cabin is wonderfully clean and because Gary really made an effort to correct the problem, coming out on his weekend three times. We were very grateful for his efforts.

There also was a nice screen porch with patio furniture. Where we constantly sat to enjoy our coffee. This is a dog friendly environment. We only have one dog and we paid the additional fee of $30.00. It's not a bad fee at all. The back deck patio is spacious and that is where you will find the hot tub as well. We really enjoyed ourselves. We played games and watched Netflix while indoors. There is no cable but the phone and internet service worked out great throughout our whole stay. This can be for a total of nine people. We stayed a total of three nights. FYI while using the gas grill on the porch. Please make sure the kitchen door remains shut. The smoke detector went off and scared my poor dog. He was shaking because the lady's voice was loud and we couldn't get it to shut off. It finally did but that was a bit much. Yes l want to be safe but it was the smoke from the grill. Besides that we had a great time and definitely plan on returning next year. Berkeley Springs is a beautiful area with the Cacapon State park a short distance away. This also had an extra bonus a basement with the washer and dryer and tv. Daybed and my son said it was quite comfortable down there. Can't wait to return!

Sideling Hill rest stop, about 7 miles west of Hancock, provides clean facilities, nice views, and a welcome center. We always drop a few quarters into the tourist-binoculars just to see as far as we can :-) There's a few picnic tables and benches. You can stretch your legs on a variety of walkways, including a stairway partway up the mountain and a pedestrian bridge across the highway. We just walked around near the The Visitor's Center, and bought from the snack and soda machines inside.

It's nice to have a place just to stop and rest in the middle of this route. You can just step out…read moreof the car and look at the view. They have bathrooms here which are medium sized. They also have a vending machine area and picnic tables and a walkway if you need to just walk around. All nice amenities just to walk around. The bathrooms are a bit old, but cleaner than you would think. It is mainly one way so its only for going West. If you need to go back Eastward, then you need to drive another 2.8 miles to the exit to go back. Nice to have, but could be better.

I discovered the Walkersville Southern Railroad when researching Polar Express inspired train rides…read morein the area- our kiddos aren't quite old enough to fully grasp the magic of the experience, so I've been hesitant to book the large immersive expensive experience offered by main lines- I thought it would be a good idea to start with a more 'low-key' experience & see how it went- ~60min train ride with a visit from Santa, carolers, and the conductor- the kids had a magical wonderful time- they enjoyed having their photos taken, their tickets punched, and hearing the train go choo- I would say their joy made the experience- on its own the train was as expected more basic-a bit underwhelming- 30minutes out, then 30 minutes backward. I understand development happens so seeing a lot of backyards of houses, development centers, and more modern town- it is what it is- but for a next experience I would like to find a ride that offers more scenic experience & a bit more variety in the ride I was also a bit disappointed with the kid's Santa's gift- the advertisement came off like the gift was a bell (reminiscent of Polar Express), but the kids were gifted some sticker create a train kit- it really wasn't a universal gift for all ages- both my kids weren't old enough to understand what it was, so basically I put the gift together-they said cool & moved on- it would have been nicer to have something more rewarding from Santa.

Real beard on this one but could have had better maintenance. He was jolly enough and of course the kids were happy. But remember the adults are taking memory photos.... Mall Santas show much better. We stopped here for just that on our trek to the Big Apple for a spur of the moment trip. The bathrooms were pretty clean and the landscaping was really clean and well kept. The mowers were there while we were stopped for a nap. I There is a souvenir store inside and my FAV a old school payphone which I took a picture of my son trying to use. Our toddler and I agreed that there was a smell inside. If you have to stop, don't try to keep going to get there. Please STOP for your safety and the safety of others. We ALWAYS pull it over for naps as needed. Safe travels

I feel the price is a bit high as the amenities offered are the same as the regular cabins ($80-$85 per night). The firefly did just recently add a window AC unit and one electric plug prior to our stay. There are no lights so a lantern is still needed. We didn't use the charcoal grill as it was rusted, we opted for cooking on the fire instead. They do not allow outside firewood and they charge $7 a bag for wood and $5 for kindling. Unfortunately their firewood was very thinly chopped, maybe 1-2 inch slivers so the firewood didn't last long. The shower and bathrooms were clean and close to the campsite which we enjoyed. The area felt very safe. Though there appeared to be a ring camera with lights just above the open showers which I found a bit odd, I assume it was pointing to the other side of the building. Easily accessible dumpster and water for cooking/washing dishes. Parking is very hard to come by so if you bring more than one vehicle this may be a problem. The cabin was well kept, clean and comfy mattresses. Lights didn't work on the upper balcony but we enjoyed the lower deck. The only thing I found off putting were over kill on signage around the campsite. Quiet hours with a $250 fine for noises past 11pm or before 7am, signs regarding usage of amenities .... It appeared they didn't really want you using too many resources. Overall, we really enjoyed the cabin, the addition of the AC was great, facility was well kept, but I felt it was over priced.

It is a nice area to just take a rest when you are out travelling. Use the facilities for relief. Vending machines available if you are in need of a snack. There are several picnic tables to sit and have a meal. Pet area as well for your fur baby if they need release. Seems that this place is much more lively at night due to the fact that truckers will use this as a true rest area. Easy off/on to the highway.

Recently I had to stop because I needed to do some work related stuff. It also didn't hurt that I needed to use the facilities. Getting off at this rest stop can be a bit tricky. This sits at the top of a crest where three lanes of traffic (used to allow for slower moving big rigs to be on the right) goes down to two. So if you are scurrying along to pass those big rigs, you may miss it or have to cut it close to make the exit to the rest stop. Once on the lot, just follow the signs to where regular cars/trucks/suvs would go. The building on the grounds are what you would expect at a rest stop. They do have some things here that are to entertain or educate you, but they have been directly in the sunlight so much that they are bleached or just plain old destroyed. Facilities are well taken care of and usable. My main purpose here was to do a real quick work thing and then continue on my way. The cell service here is bad. I had LTE at most and did not matter what I was trying to do, just would not work. Totally not their fault, but if it is against the law to text or hold a handheld device while driving, they might want to invest in WiFi or something at these rest stops. Getting back onto the highway is a bit tricky as well. Leaving from the regular vehicle lot you go on what feels like a winding country road. Then you have to rush yourself in hopes that you can make it back on the highway without causing any delays.

I haven't had to use it in a long time. It was clean, but you need to take into consideration what kind of people with medical conditions are going in there. Actually my friend who is not asthmatic also came out coughing from the smell. Hopefully you will cut back on the bleach.
