Great place to meet other seniors and develop lasting friendships. They have a lot of activities, including dance, exercise, sewing, gardening club, writing clubs, pool playing and etc. They also have a computer center with excellent advice on computers and phones. I've lived close enough to walk to this facility for 23 years. Prior to covid, it was more rewarding to participate here. I once went with a small group of women to the annual banquet put on by the culinary arts program at the JC in Albany, and thought the company very agreeable. And there was a resourceful local tour operator functioning then. Now activities have contracted dramatically. This is a femi-centric organizational culture, working acceptably for women and couples (I presume). As a single man, the way I have been spoken to and treated is NOT acceptable and, I admit, I don't go in for pool or board or card games, where the men seem to congregate. I frankly don't think the city-sponsored senior center in North Salem is doing any better; how we treat the vulnerable in our society is an ongoing problem. read more

This was a very disappointing place. Their staff of volunteers were rude and condescending. Instead of judging, they should be respectful and courteous. If I was properly greeted, instead of being so tenacious, we could have had a great place to go, but instead, was greeted by rude, demanding volunteers and the tax preparers were even more unwelcoming. It makes me wonder if this place is managed properly because many of the volunteers acted like they really didn't want to be there or had issues with customer service, or lack thereof. I went to the senior center for lunch this past Friday. I noticed a Stihl LS110 Brush Trimmer. I inquired if it was for sale. I was informed by a staff member that indeed it was. I informed this individual that I would purchase it. I was told that they would have another staffer to price it. I ate lunch there at the center. Afterwards I checked on it but it still had not been priced. Again I was told they would find someone to price it. Still waiting. Asked if someone else could price it. They stated "no". I reaffirmed that I would purchase it when they put a price on it and that I would pay for it. I was informed that they would get it priced and put it in the rear storage shed. I returned Monday morning to pick up this tool. However, the tool was gone. I inquired what happened to the tool. I was informed that a staffer purchased it on Saturday. I called the senior center on Tuesday. No response. Called again Wednesday morning. Had a conversation with the president of the center. The president informed me that she had no intentions of asking the individual to return the tool that he purchased on Saturday. This is not the first time that something like this has happened here the senior center. I leave it up to the readers here to decide if these type of practices are acceptable and honest. read more

I love coming here to have breakfast once a month, check out the rummage sale (that holds contents of estates BEFORE the dealers come pick through), and find good kid books. The volunteers welcome us and chat. Besides that, the senior center is where we come to pick up our reasonably priced Soup'R Meals (on FB) by Todd Wieweck once a week so I don't have to cook that night. We've seen a few older folks get frail but how they love to support this! read more

I really enjoy working with the South Salem Senior Center participants in the senior fitness programs. The SSSC is a great place to thrift shop. They also have a small boutique store. They recently had a fashion show with tea time which my granddaughter really enjoyed! read more
