Thousands of photographs going back a 100 years to look through. Incredible artifacts to look at. They even have a gift shop with hard to find books and art for sale. This was the second time we've been there. This time they had a surfing display. The history of surfing in Port A goes back to the early 60s. I've been surfing for almost 30 years and I learned a lot. They had some really nice classic boards, memorabilia, artwork, stories, and tons of photos. We really enjoyed it. You should stop in here whenever you visit Port A. You will be blown away.

They also happened to have a dance performance from the Texas AMA inside which is cool, power to all arts including dance but it was distracting and smack dab in the middle of some interesting pieces I would've liked more time with before my flight. Elizabeth's was a cool restaurant. The blood orange ahi tuna was really delicious like spot on. My martini was okay. They didn't have olives and I've had better being from vegas. Prices are fair though and the staff is decently nice. Lots of crying babies in there when I went though which kind of killed the artsy vibe I was hoping for but I guess that happens in a touristy part of town in Texas. Overall it was nice I'm just a sensitive person and enjoy quiet to ponder art and eat my meal so consider that if you're traveling solo and are similar I suppose. Gift shop was cool and I had a nice chat with the lovely lady in there. And the security guard was cool, he let me store my luggage with him. It's a quick walk over from the convention center so if you want a little art time and a quick drink and meal that's super convenient, it's kind of a no brainer.

If you go when it's hot, bring water. Mosquito repellent is also a good idea but if you forget it, it's sold in the visitor center. When you pay for admission, you get an arm band and a crude map. We wished the map was better. At least one part of a pathway was under construction, so we ended up cutting through the playground to get back. While called a botanical garden, this place is equally good for seeing birds, insects, reptiles, and other animals. Admission is very reasonable, so it's a great place to bring the kids. In the visitor center there are small caged reptiles. If there's an attendant, you might be able to pet a lizard. A blue-tongued skink was out while we were there. There are other animals in large outdoor cages, including several beautiful macaws and lizards. There is a winding path that takes you to a variety of areas on the property. Some areas, like orchids and butterflies, are within enclosures while most things you'll see are out in the open. Along the path there are a couple of elevated observation decks and lots of descriptive signage. There is an unshaded play area. There are several purple martin houses, which are fun to watch. We had hoped to see some hummingbirds in the gardens, as there was a hummingbird area with feeders and flowers they generally like, but the heat was perhaps too stifling. All in all, we found this to be a great place to visit, weather permitting. If you happen to be a member at another AHS garden, you can get in free.

He loved the science area as well as the cool rocks and minerals exhibits. The spacious rooms offered room to wander and made you feel free to take your time reading all the information provided at each stop. The forensic reconstruction of those who perished along with their biographies was thought-provoking. The gift shop had many amazing books and the staff was both professional knowledgeable and friendly. Tip for parking - If you pre-pay the $7 for parking, you're supposed to tell them when you check in and they'll give you a token to exit the parking lot when you're done. Didn't see this info anywhere. Thankfully, the girl at the exit was friendly (in her big raincoat!) and gave us a token. We had the receipt to prove we paid but didn't need it. Not sure it's worth the admission price, but I look at it like we're contributing the the care of these animals.

The gentleman who greeted us was very friendly. We didn't have cash for the suggested donation, but we were introduced to the QR code on the wall and were able to donate that way. We spend a little under an hour in the museum. It is some, but they have a lot of neat Texas items inside. There is also an observation deck on the third floor that faces the marina. Parking is free along the street and just steps away from the entrance. We enjoyed out day learning more about maritime.

An amazing museum! This FREE museum looks like a morgue. It's not. It was left to the city by some…read morephilanthropist, and is a great asset for Victoria. This museum doesn't seem to have a permanent collection. Instead, it houses a continuous array of touring exhibitions. You can eat and drink in the gallery! When I came, two women had gotten lunch to go from Dairy Queen down the street, and were enjoying their Belt Busters in front of a magnificent work of art in the cool breeze of the air conditioning. For my visit, they had an exhibition of linoleum etchings. It was really cool, because they had a couple of places where you could sketch your own linoleum tile to try it out. They have a gift shop here, with high priced works of art, but you're not going to find this stuff anywhere else. It seems that they have a little bar in the back for parties and events. Parking is only available on the street, but when I went, there wasn't a big crowd, so it was easy. The gallery attendant was extremely nice and welcoming, and went on to explain the history of the museum and a bit about the artist. I was really impressed, and can't wait to return for the next exhibition!
