Hadn't been here in awhile so I had forgotten that they had renovated the place. It's still on the third floor and they have a bigger receptionist area to accomodate the traffic that comes in. Waiting to be called back is about the same as before but once your back in one of the rooms things tend to go quicker. I came back to see Chris Le, Dr. Pavel's PA for my low back pain. I tried to hold out for as long as I could but I needed to be reassessed for lumbar ablation. Also I like Chris because he's personable. He put me down for an updated MRI, the ablation, and some meds in the meantime. Checking out was simple as well. You end up on the backside of the receptionist area and they are the ones who will schedule your future appointments and I was able to fill out paperwork for the MRI place ahead of time to save time later. My experience with Dr. Camden B. Burns has been extremely disappointing. During my first visit, I waited for over an hour without any explanation, only to find out that he was not even in the office. No one called ahead of time to inform me, and no one updated me while I was sitting there waiting. It was a complete lack of respect for my time. On my second visit, things only got worse. Dr. Burns came across as arrogant, belligerent, and very disrespectful. Instead of feeling heard or cared for as a patient, I felt dismissed and spoken down to. His attitude was unprofessional and unacceptable. Patients deserve basic communication, respect, and professionalism. Unfortunately, that was not my experience here. read more

I've been to three of their offices and this one is my favorite- decorated, a joke posted at the check in window, friendly staff. I have a back injury and I finally got my Dr Gall appointment- finally because I first saw a PA that specializes in knees and hips- hip pain. Hip pain was really back pain- Dr Gall specializes in spine. Also their scheduling department must suck- because my appointments would get scheduled and then within 24 hours I would get a text that my appointment was cancelled. This happened 3x! For this appointment I think his nurse called me to correct my appointment- I was scheduled in the wrong office! The irony is that I am waiting for insurance approval for the next step and as I am writing this I am thinking I should call- because who knows how prompt they will be in scheduling after obtaining approval.... sigh. My overall experience with this practice is 2 to 3 stars- but this location/staff/doc did deserve 4 stars- I will update if warranted. read more

While Dr. Pavel is the best, SOS billing practices are the worst. I went to an office appt yesterday after 6 months. They said I had a $125 credit. They don't tell you because they expect you to "know you have a credit" and ask for a refund. But they don't give you a refund until the last claim is processed. My review is not about my doctor but about their system. My doctor provides great care. I arrived at my appointment 15 minutes early to be informed that my doctor will be an hour late. They have such sophisticated systems that informs & reminds you of your appointment multiple times. The reminders are via text & email. Surely, their sophisticated system can also inform their valued patients when a doctor is very late. Waited a month to see my doctor. Frustrating! read more

Their system of patient intake is horrible. I tried (thought I had) checked in via text. Stupid way to do things but I went along. Got there several minutes ahead of appointment time. Was told to sign in and if additional information was needed, I would be notified. I was told more was needed after sitting there for nearly half an hour. The information they wanted for sign in was ridiculous - apparently much drafted by a lawyer. Made me suspect they may have a record of being sued for malpractice. Already had X-rays and MRI . They want more taken here "before I can see the Dr". They were telling ALL the patients this. I do believe this is unethical at the very least....very disappointing!!! I absolutely love Dr. Deskmuth. His personality and professionalism is what brought me back here again. His knowledge of his science and art is a God given gift. Demarcus was professional but rushed and hurried. I hop I never make my patients feel this way. He was very nice though. At my brace fitting I was told I had to pay the $780 of my $1000 deductible first or I could pay $189 cash -which is not added toward my deductible. After questioning her, she said that this was ONLY for the brace, not today's visit ,nor the xrays. Again, this is borderline illegal. I know a brace is not $780! Luckily I don't have to go back for 8 weeks. I appreciate you Dr D., but next time I will be going to JOI. At least until this financial maze is corrected. Don't ever use this Orthopedic, they over book their doctors. They make you wake hours after your appt time. No care for their patients. Their Front counter staff at is unprofessional and have no care towards people. I arrived at 115pm (8/28/24) when my appt was at 130 pm. At 210pm, I still was not seen or check in with. I was involved in my 2nd auto accident on October 2018 and suffered a severe injury. I was referred to get cervical epidural injection for a tear I had in my neck. A co-worker informed me that Dr. Collier from SE Orthopedics is the best pain management doctor in the region so I scheduled my injections with their office. They were flexible with scheduling around my hectic work schedule. They have facilities absolutely all over Jacksonville region, near my home and my work. They also take every health insurance. It was fast, easy and painless. I am so happy with Dr. Collier and their facility. Thank you! Ps: I'm deathly terrified of needles and he made me feel extremely comfortable. I have been reviewing places on yelp for about a dozen years and I'm a journalist. I haven't decided whether I'm going to do a story on this business or not yet. A good company usually writes responses to the one star reviews but this is one place where I just don't see that happening. Hold times: crazy especially on Monday but eventually they do call you back. I have been to multiple locations in multiple counties for this company and I've seen multiple doctors, physicians assistants etc. Granted I wait longer there than anywhere else but the last doctor was obviously perturbed and apologized for how very long I had to wait before I said anything. So I stayed with them but it got worse. I had an accident where initially ER thought my left leg was broken. They thought there was a fracture but there was so much incredible swelling in the knee they couldn't see so they had to do a CT scan. It wasn't but they put me in a brace for my entire leg and the ER doc said I needed to get to my orthopedic surgeon as soon as possible. I had multiple injuries and initially they were just going to see me for one and said they were part specific so I would only have to pick one part. That's OK but then somebody else, after you hold a long time, told me I could drive to another county/city and go to there trauma department. I guess that's for people who have had accidents so I thought that would be great and I figured they would see more than one body part especially when it was for somebody literally after they had an accident. After going there, I found out they are one of the few places that has no access to Baptist. I've gone to Mayo Clinic and they have access. The other big orthopedic place with better reviews who has offices all over also has access. In fact this is the only place I think I've been without access. Nonetheless I brought everything with me but I saw a PA. I was informed with a straight face that even though this is trauma where people go after accidents or emergencies, kind of like an emergency department as how they described it on the phone, they would only look at one single body part and that is the strict rule. I said even if I have multiple injuries all over me you will only look at one even in trauma which is "kind a like ER". Yes they said. Somehow with barely touching me if she touched me at all she decided she didn't think it was torn even though I'm literally covered in bruises, possible fracture/s and tears and I have a concussion as well. I have been diagnosed by multiple doctors with the concussion and Southeast orthopedics wasn't one of them who told me. So despite the fact of having a concussion and swelling so bad they can't even see things on an x-ray, she didn't order it stat. That means when you have an accident and they order something quickly. The woman at the front desk as I was checking out and noticed that and went back to see that she would order it stat because she could see somehow when she was checking me out that it wasn't and she said, probably by looking at me black and blue from head to toe that I needed stat. Even the front desk woman had more wherewithal than this young physician assistant. She went back and said that the PA was in a room but she would definitely tell her. Unfortunately it didn't happen. My appointment time is 2 PM and I received a text messages letting me know that. I arrived before 2 PM and remember somebody else being there in there as well and they took them back first. I didn't think about it because maybe they have two MRI machines. Doesn't appear that's the case. I let them know that I had a 330 at their other facility across a 3 mile bridge and at least a half hour in late Friday afternoon traffic but they told me no problem it was a busy Friday but I would make it. After I waited and waited - I asked when I would go back and they went back to ask and said it would just be another 10 minutes. Then once I went back there I had to go in another waiting room and sit! And wait. I didn't make it to the other appointment and the only way with this orthopedic surgeon to look two bodies parts -- says an armn a my leg is to travel to multiple counties/cities and definitely not worth it. read more

I realized once entering the waiting room full of unhappy patients complaining to the only person I saw working there about taking too long to see the doctor. After looking around at the dirty floor and furniture I received a text message from Southeastern Orthopedic Specialist telling me the doctor they scheduled me to see did not specialize in what I needed and I needed to reschedule my appointment. I find the practice to be very disorganized: canceling appointments at the last minute then saying you failed to show up, sending links to confirm appts. that don't work, long lines to check in, much emphasis on collecting payments up front, lack of interest in patient care. Greedy, incompetent and dishonest, and arrogant are the best words to describe this practice. 1) greedy: despite having met my deductible and having a surgery authorized (a pretty damn good assurance of payment by an insurance company), this practice demanded $2,400 from me PRIOR to surgery and threatened to cancel surgery it if I didn't pay. They claimed that insurance was not a guarantee of payment. My insurance company intervened and got them to lower the demand to $1,200 which I refused to pay and, lo and behold, they lowered the demand again to $600. Annoyed at the blatant greed but needing the surgery, I paid by credit card. Two days before the procedure I was to visit the doctor and asked to speak with the office manager about the demanded payment. Obviously, they could not explain why the $2,400 dropped to $600 other that to say they needed some assurance of payment. Having never seen such blatant greed from any medical provider, I demanded my $600 back and cancelled the surgery. They assured me the refund would be processed that day. 2) incompetent and dishonest: this goes hand in hand with greedy because I never saw a refund to my credit card for nearly four weeks. I put a dispute on the payment with VISA and filed a fraud complaint with the state's attorney general's office. Like magic, my refund appeared within a day! How many other patients give this greedy practice thousands of dollars weekly that they hold onto and supposedly return in a timely manner? How many times must demands be made to return the money that is assured to be paid by insurance? Who holds these greedy medical practitioners to account? Hopefully, the licensing bodies and attorney general! 3) arrogant: the practice manager made every attempt to justify the greedy practice of demanding up-front payment as necessary and had no explanation for the insurance company's insistence that payment was guaranteed upon authorization of the procedure. The fact that not a single medical provider in the area makes the same demand for up-front payment was of no concern to the manager. AVOID THIS PRACTICE LIKE THE PLAGUE! My medical needs were fully addressed by another provider who asked for nothing up-front. read more

Went to Southeast Orthopedics for a disk surgery with Robert Hurford . Went through disk injections with Doctor Lincoln, & review with Doctor Collier MRI's, EKG, all pre-test approvals . First visit with Robert Hurford he was very behind on my appointments , waiting (3) hours in the waiting area. Scheduled surgery where I was placed on a 2 month waiting list . Day of surgery was scheduled at Saint Vincents hospital for a 9:30 arrival time , operation to start at 10:30.am In post operation bed with I.V in arms, medicated and waiting for surgery to begin. 11:30 - 12:30 - 1:30- 2:30 still waiting . Doctor came into room informed me he ( Robert Hurford " was having a bad day " running an a little late due to patient complications. Waiting still 3:30 - 4:30 - 5:30 - 6:30 had to re-flush I.V arm swelling blood contusion . Surgery was to start at 10:30 am , it is now 7:15 PM feeling sick. Robert Hurford returned ranting again about his bad day. Asked " told nurse to take the I.V out of my arm that had a large blood contusion. I was going to leave and go home feeling sick after laying down for ( TEN ) 10 hours straight. Apprehensive , anxious, nervous about Robert Hurford performing spine surgery on me after commenting about his bad day. Robert Hurford behavior is beyond belief. read more

My husband got referred here by his chiropractor after a major back injury. He went in and the office staff told him they did not have the paperwork/ referral that had been sent to them. They called him to set up and appointment prior to today. They would not work with him on getting this resolved and wanted payment despite the fact that there was nothing owed. I saw Dr. Puckett (hand specialist) at SE Ortho today. He was extremely professional and compassionate. He listened to my concerns and I didn't feel at all rushed. His examination was complete, and even the "much dreaded in my head" cortisone shot was not at all bad. If I have to see a doctor, I want it to be one that will listen and seems concerned about my health and well-being. He laid out all my options, starting with the least invasive and suggested we start from there. I appreciate that immensely. read more

Looking at all these bad reviews I am mystified. I had knee surgery w SOS and the entire process was seamless. Even when my insurance co initially denied my surgery Kendra and Dr. Swanson appealed and got it approved within 3 days. Surgery is held at a surgical center and yes, communication is inconsistent but I simply called and was directed to the person handling my case and she explained everything in detail including lab work required, etc. Many folks on this page complaining don't seem to realize that as a patient, you can easily access your case manager if you simply ASK. My surgery went very well - and I was contacted that evening and the next two days to ensure my comfort was taken care of. The surgical center also called me to follow up. My PT and follow up visits have been fine and I've never waited more than 15 minutes so I don't understand these ridiculous claims of 2 hour waits. Don't listen to these bad reviews; if you are too lazy to coordinate your own care, nobody can adult for you! read more

We were referred to this location by the Dunn Avenue Baptist ER. When we called to make the appointment, we were very precise to say what was needed and what the diagnosis was at the ER. It was determined that only 2 doctors could assist, and an appointment was made for Dr. Bates for Monday at 3:00. We arrived about 2:40. Upon signing in they took the disc with the ct scan to upload. The registration clerk uploaded to the account while standing there and then handed it back to us. We sat.....waiting for over an hour for someone to call us back. About 4:05 weeks were called back to the exam room. The MA said to use: "sorry it took so long,the DR wanted you to get an cray or exam and sent the order to the front which they canceled. We sent it again, they canceled it again. Finally the third time we sent it up there, they called back to ask why we kept sending it. We told them the dr wanted it before he could see the patient. They told us then that you brought your results and a disc. So then we came to get you". ..... Not real comforting considering. So no big deal, we explained EVERYTHING to the MA and showed the issue. The MA said let me go get the DR. He'll be right in. Another 30-40 minutes goes by..... The office manager comes in, to which we are extremely surprised. She explains that Dr. Bates wouldn't be seeing us today because it shouldn't have been scheduled with him. It should have been scheduled with another DR. In the practice. The office manager said that DR was there but was in a procedure and an hour behind. So we said, can we wait. It really needs to be seen. She said "I can ask the DR, but they said they did already and he said no". I said "well it isn't our fault that someone scheduled it wrong and we have now driven 35 miles out of our way to see him. At least he could see us if we're here". She leaves the room, comes back in 10 minutes to say that he said no! At this point my spouse was angered. The office manager made no "real empathetic apology". Just a hap-hazard, I'm sorry. As we are leaving she is still saying, we can get you in tomorrow, will that work. I said No, they can't leave work again and drive 35 miles. This is ridiculous. Side note: the DR that was the scheduled DR and wouldn't see us, stood outside of the door the entire time. Never once did he at least acknowledge the mistake or attempt to save face with good customer service skills. So, I wouldn't recommend this establishment to anyone. They are lazy at best! read more

When treating pts with enough pain to seek a specialist, You need to do better. My mothers first appt was a week ago, they told us she was going to get an injection and would call to schedule. 7 days of extreme pain later, we call the clinic and they inform us "insurance was pending". I call insurance and they told us they Just received the request and are awaiting clinical findings from the Dr. In other words - the clinic never sent the request. The next day, I call the clinic and ask if they have sent the missing information. No, they have not - according to them "the team" was handling it. They did not allow me to speak to anyone from this team nor the Dr responsible for sending the information to find out what was the hold up. I asked if we could just do it Out of Pocket, and the staff said we would still need to wait for "the team" and appt availability. I am appalled by this communication and lack of empathy. Went to S.E. Orthopedics for a knee problem. Saw Dr. Robinson. He was straightforward and professional. I have no problem with him or the medical staff. My problem is with Billing. I only had 2 appts. with the DR. Shortly thereafter I received a bill for services of $35. Wrote a check and sent it to Athena Health in Maine. After my second visit I received a bill for $20 and wrote a check for that amount and again sent it to Maine. That was on 1-20-24. It is now 2-14-24 and the check has never been processed. I am now receiving calls from Billing about my "Delinquent" bill of $20. I explained that it was sent to Maine on 1-20-24. They want me to pay NOW. I know if I send them another check it will be cashed and we will be Paid in full. The 1-20-24 check will eventually be cashed and I will now have a credit of $20 which they will be unwilling to refund because businesses like to receive money but are reluctant to pay it back.The moral of the story is pay by credit card and avoid possibly damaging your credit. P.S.-I called their Billing center in Maine and spoke to a young lady who works there. She told me she was not surprised as their Mail room is a mess and is seriously backed up. read more

My first review EVER written. Southeast orthopedics did an MRI for me. It took me 3 month to get in to see the doctor. Dr. Desmuck seems to be a fabulous doctor and I am very happy with him. Dr. Desmuck said he needed another MRI because some of the imaging wasn't clear. Fine and ok, mistakes happen. I had an appointment scheduled today, March 6 at SEO on county road 210 St. Augustine, Fl 32092. I received a text message that said I would need to pay $531.79 for the MRI today. I immediately contacted SEO and spoke with Diamond. Diamond was very pleasant and helpful. I explained I already had SEO do an MRI and Dr. Desmuck said he needed another MRI because some of the imaging wasn't clear. I shouldn't have to pay again for the exact same MRI of the shoulder with and without contrast because they didn't get clear images the first time. Their job is to make sure the images are clear when they do the MRI. She said, "you shouldn't have to pay that". She also told me she noted the account. Here's the good part! So I go to check in a SEO on 210. I give my name and DOB and the lady tells me I owe $531.79 for todays appointment. The clerk sitting next to her is on the phone and I hear her say, "she is here now". So they tell me it's a different doctor who ordered the MRI, so that's why I have to pay again. The first Doctor who ordered the MRI was Dr. Pavel who is ALSO with SEO. Dr. Pavel ordered the MRI and sent me to follow up with Dr. Desmuck, BOTH doctors are with SEO. I am on the phone with Diamond in the lobby there at SEO on 210. I explain how ridiculous that was since both doctors are with SEO. She then said the MRI team said I have to pay again because it is a different type of MRI. I have the orders both MRI orders are both are the exact same orders!!! Diamond stayed professional and polite and said I am so sorry, but you will have to pay in order for them to do the MRI. She asked if I was in a position to pay. I told her I was but that was not the point. I already paid for MRI once why should i have to pay again because they didn't get clear images. I said, "ok, I'll pay for the MRI and dispute the charge". They hand me some paperwork to fill out and two minutes later some nasty looking, nasty speaking lady who appeared to have an attitude called my name and asked me to come back. I went back and she told me she was the office manager and was canceling my appointment today. I asked her if she heard me grumbling on the phone. She said she did, but it had nothing to do with that. She said, "I just spoke with the MRI team and they want to send you to a third party". I was so confused and I just left. I got down the road and realized that nasty & rude person, who claimed to be the office manager bold face lied to me! She also told me it would be much cheaper for me to go somewhere else verse SEO. I was thinking what in the world does that have to do with it. Dr. Desmuck said it was important for me to do everything with SEO so they could easily share my information and treat me. Bottom line, some rude person made an executive decision to cancel my appointment and flat out lie to me because she heard me say, "I'll just dispute the charge". At best SEO owes me for the first MRI they took. I am contacting my insurance company regarding them charging me and getting paid once already for imaging that wasn't sufficient and now attempting to get paid again. I am not done with one simple review. I plan to report her to someone with SEO as well. read more

After waiting for over an hour past my appointment time at the south side office and being told there were 3 people still ahead of me, I asked to reschedule. I was told that Dr. Desmukh was always 60 - 90 minutes behind schedule. At that point I asked for my copayment back which they did agree to with no problem. The other issue I had was concern about Covid. Yes they require masks but once people check in it's a free for all. Several people were wearing masks around their neck. Many were not practicing social distancing. I changed seats 3 times because people sat down right next to me even though there were other seats available. It's a huge waiting room with lots of people in it. I felt very unsafe. I supervised felony offenders my whole career and I wouldn't dream of keeping anyone waiting over an hour, especially during a pandemic. It's just so disrespectful. Did I mention it took a month for me to get a scheduling call back and then another month to get in. If you are concerned about Covid or have better things to do than sit in a waiting room all afternoon go somewhere else. read more

This has been the most mentally abusive relationship I have ever experienced! To psych myself up for surgery was a feat (8 previously to include left rotator cuff 6 years ago - that was worse than spinal surgeon!). To have had to experience their callus and lackadaisical attitude - infuriating! Disorganized and not efficient or professional. LONG wait times for appointments and a comedy of errors. I scheduled an appointment (over the phone in June 2023) for rotator cuff surgery for 8/18/2023. 8/15/2023 I called since I had not received anything to include preop instructions or the location for the surgery. I discovered they had my email wrong (totally botched typing) in 3 of their systems so no notifications were ever sent. Note: emails would have bounced back. No one ever followed up with instructions prior to my calling them on 8/15/2023! The only call I received was for physical therapy scheduling and they wanted me to drive to Mandarin from the beach since their other locations were booked. Crazy!!! 3/15/2023 I asked the PA to call me to discuss my various concerns. I asked that pain medication be called in prior to surgery, so I was not scrambling to retrieve on my way home after surgery. I had left rotator cuff in the past and the pain was horrible!!!! I was told they only do Oxy which I stated did not work for me. He said, "it would suffice". They called in Ibuprofen, baby aspirin and Oxy. 8/16/2023 Publix called and said Oxy has been on back order for over a month and the doctor needed to call and give an alternative. I emailed and called Dr. Murphy office and asked they call in an alternative RX or another pharmacy. I was told I had to provide an alternate pharmacy that they did not do the calls or research to locate RX. They would not prescribe an alternative. I gave Walgreens # and when I called Walgreens, I was told it was on back order for over 2 months. Note: Oxy is a controlled substance so pharmacies will not tell me if it is in stock when I call around to locate. That is up to the doctor to determine with the pharmacy when they call to order the RX. I emailed Dr. Murphy office and let them know Walgreens did not have the controlled RX and I needed an alternative pharmacy or prescription to control the pain after surgery. Instead, I was told that was not possible and baby aspirin, Tylenol and ibuprofen would suffice. Controlled pain medication was not needed. This is 3rd world country advice. Wonderful pain medication is available to help alleviate pain after major surgery BUT they choose to ignore since it would require an extra step to directly talk with a pharmacist to see what alternatives are available to give the patient some relief during the horribly painful times. The only 2 calls I received from them after my call 8/15/2023 was 1 from the PA and two for full payment prior to the 8/18/2023 surgery. All other correspond after 8/15/2023 was via email from a snippy "DR. Murphy team member". Additionally, because they operate out of a surgery center, they do not offer DME (ice machine, ice packs etc.). Appointments are literally just a few minutes, and the wait time can b 1.5- 2 hours - which was my experience for my 3 visits. Arrogance displayed and complete disorganization and lack of compassion for patients. SE Orthopedics is just a mill and true patient concern is void. read more

Doctors or PAs do not call back for medical questions!

Do not allow them to bully you into using their in-house MRI/imaging!! After my appointment they recommended an MRI. Their in-house imaging center called me right away and said they could schedule me that same week. When i told them i wanted to use a different facility(because their cost was more than three times anywhere else) they told me it would take 2-3 weeks. I called my insurance provider who confirmed that the process to get an MRI approved using their own machines is the exact same as approval for a different facility. They are flat out trying to bully people into using their own. Also when i told them that i could get it done for $300 elsewhere versus $1,250 with them, they said it would be free if done in house which my insurer verified was 100% inaccurate information!! I started here last week, and from the moment I went to check in, there was an issue with my appointment. I was told they couldn't see me because I saw my doctor 30 minutes before my pt appointment in the same building. After the front desk made a phone call, I was allowed to continue with my appointment. My next 7 appointments were scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday at 10:30 am. I scheduled this way to make the best use of my time and gas. My doctor is in the same building, so I scheduled my appointments to see one right after the other. I showed up for my 2nd appointment, and again, I was told once again I couldn't do my pt because I saw my doctor 30 minutes earlier. I told the person at the front desk if they can't accommodate me at my scheduled times to just cancel all my future appointments. I will definitely find another physical therapist to treat me after my shoulder surgery. I can not recommend this physical therapy location to anyone. read more
