Dr willens helped me when the VA took us VA patients out of pain management. Once again, goes to show us, the VA cares little of what happens to veterans, as a matter of fact, they make it very clear, they wish we would hurry up and die. Hopefully under President Trump we will get treated like human beings again. But Dr Willens has been treating for 10 yrs, when I leave I do feel like he has really helped me. Advanced Pain Management is the best clinic I've attended for pain management. In the last 20 years I've been with a lot of doctors and I can't say how much I appreciate Dr Willens and his staff. Dr Willens offered me real hope from the beginning that I would be better. I'm not sure if I will believe him because I was quite afraid to make a change. It's been my experience that when they start talking about changing you're gonna be stuck with a lot of pain Because so many doctors don't believe in pain management. They have taken such care with me I'm so glad that I followed the plan. It has been life-changing for me. I take far less medication that I did when I arrived, which is a great thing because he is reduced my pain which is a great thing! 07.25.2019 Well looks like I am now covered new Pain med doctor and he is doctor cool number 4. Got me a full house of doctor cools. Pain med office and staff very cool and makes a new patient very comfortable while waiting. The office is just unbelievable. All the fantastic pictures on the walls were taken by the doctor while he was on various vacations I imagine. They are super well done. Any way all turned out well for me on this initial visit. I was referred to Dr. Willens through my insurance company after a car accident. From the beginning he was interested in pushing injections. And later I found he tried to charge me for a back brace I never received. Please go through your bills and google codes if you need to if youre going to see this doctor after being warning. Once I notified my attorneys they had the charge removed and were embarrassed for recommending a scam artist. read more

Dr Willens and his staff are great. I had not had bad things to say about the VA, until the basically cut us veterans off cold turkey. If you dont have cancer, the VA does not think you need pain meds. after a back injury, Duke University did surgery after 3 yrs. but pain meds were still needed to keep me mobile. Doc Willens does not just write scripts, he takes time to evaluate and give much needed trigger point injections. thank god for Dr Willens and his entire staff. even if the VA opened up a pain clinic, ill stay with Dr Willens! read more

Dr. Willens is a far cry above most doctors I have ever been to. I immediately felt comfortable with him and love one of his nurses, Melissa. Between them both my first visit was a memorable one. They work great together and it's apparent they have been working together for many years. Dr. Willens took his time with me during each office visit and talked in 'language' that I, as a patient, can understand. He is sincerely one of the nicest people I have met. read more

He refuses to see me because I don't have health insurance and I ran out of my PIP even though I have Med Pay still available. It seems like this Doctor is only after money and not treating patients. So, I am adding to my review about Michael Willens. I needed to get back in and see him & he will not see me. After prescribing an extremely high dose of a very serious pain medication, then letting me go because of a disagreement about trigger point injections. I am appalled at the way they conduct business. They had no problem taking the cheesecakes or presents I brought in on a bi-weekly basis. I do not recommend this place. The way my appointments went is as follows: if he is in a bad mood, I was t treated so badly and he made me feel like I was stupid. If he is having a good day: I had a decent appointment. I can't believe they all, the entire staff, would take the gifts I brought in & for him to not see me makes me sick to my stomach! read more

I've not always had good luck when it came to finding a pain' management specialist, they were mostly distant, impersonal, poor listeners, judgmental, and arrogant with the excepton of one very odd "Dr. Feelgood ". So when I'd finally found someone who I could depend on to be every thing a person could want in this kind of specialist I was very apprehensive when I was told that things had changed and she was no longer comfortable practicing pain management, so time to find someone else. My former doctor and her staff all said they had heard good things about Dr Willens, this was 8 years ago & I've had no regrets with switching over . Dr. Willens and his staff have the rare ability to balance between professionalism and making a personal connection with their patients (well me anyway). Dr. Willens always listens and makes sure that he addresses my concerns. I cant remember ever having left there without feeling better than when I walked in. They are always as accommodating as possible when it comes to flexability with appointments.On a personal note I don't think I've ever seen him in a bad mood, I mean he's always smiling and opens up with a really bad (dad) joke, which I appreciate because it gives me material to pass on to my family! So bottom line is if your looking to move to a new doc I recommend that you at least give Dr. Michael Willens a try. read more

Terrible experience from first visit. I read some other reviews which said Dr. Willens doesn't have good bedside manner, however he turned out to be very nice and spent time talking about my neck injury and then proceeded to give me trigger point shots which I had not had before. I wasn't warned of any side effects or told what could be expected, however he told me he could get me out of pain, so I trusted him and proceeded with the shots. Unfortunately, I had a bad reaction to them and was in excruciating pain about an hour after the appointment. I was under the impression I had a prescription for a mild pain reliever as well as muscle relaxers waiting for me at the pharmacy. When I got to Publix, they informed me that I only had one which for the muscle relaxer. I was very surprised and disappointed, but figured I would be better in the morning so I dealt with the pain that night by just taking Advil. When I woke up the next day, the shot he gave me in my neck (where my injury was) was killing me and I was in A LOT of pain. I didn't go to work and was in tears that entire morning. The shot loosened up my ligaments too much so I could feel my herniated discs sliding around in my neck...it was horrible and I couldn't even bend over 20% without feeling them slide and triggering a jolt to my nerves and causing pain I've never felt before. I called his office first thing in the morning and the girl who answered the phone said he was in a deposition and wasn't going to be in all day. I asked if they could send him a message or if the nurse on staff there could call something into the pharmacy for me. I didn't get a call back and decided to call again in the afternoon. She said the nurse doesn't recall ever having a conversation with me regarding pain medicine with me, even though the very fact that I could even remember the name of the pain medicine that doesn't make me nauseous is because the nurse remided me the name of it which is Tramadol, (which is very weak on the spectrum of pain meds...it's not like I was asking for Oxycontin). She proceeded to tell me that if I was in that much pain that I should go to the emergency room...so I suffered that entire day and cried on my couch in agony. The next day I was still in a lot of pain, so I called back and asked if they could call something in. She took down my number and after a couple of hours someone called in 5 pills of 50mg Tramadol to Walgreens which were to be taken once a day. I took a half a day off to wait on the prescription and went into work. A couple of hours into the afternoon I started to get an excruciating headache...something well beyond a migraine. It started at the base of my skull and felt like I was being stabbed with a butcher knife, then the pain started creeping around my head until I felt like there was a hand around my skull squeezing me like a vice grip. The veins in my temples were pulsating and I had to stop working. I cried for the next two hours as this headache consumed me, I couldn't even see straight or think about driving. I called their office again thinking maybe the doctor could tell me what's going on and the girl said she would speak to the doctor and then later advised me once more to go to the emergency room if I was in that much pain. I eventually just left work as I needed to pick up my son and barely made it home to the couch. After I spoke with my chiropractor he said that he had heard that sometimes the medicine in those shots can irritate nerves and cause a bad reaction. Once he said that I looked online and discovered that there is a very large nerve at the base of your skull called the Occipital nerve. If that gets irritated it can cause Occipital Neurologia which perfectly explained exactly what had happened. I felt very unimportant and even discarded by this doctor's office. I called looking for comfort and answers from them which they would not provide or even attempt to explain to me, instead the girls were short and snotty and advised me of things that weren't possible. No one ever mentioned possible side effects or explained what I could expect from these shots in the next few days. It's now been over a week and I am in more pain that ever, in fact the pain is worse and is radiating down into my shoulder and back which it wasn't before. I'm having to go see yet another doctor at JOIn to start over and fell like this was a complete waste of time. On my first visit I asked the girl at the desk to book me on a Wednesday and I thought she had, however when I went back to their office this week (since I had an appointment) she informed me that I was there on the wrong day which was Tuesday and that my appointment was not with the doctor but rather a physical therapist. Crystal said she could just reschedule me (for the next week), but that I needed to pay a missed appointment fee of $50 (in cash) if I wanted to do so. At this point I was livid and decided to never return there. read more

Dr. Willens' office was the only office willing to give me my initial office visit. They were caring and helpful and scheduled me within the week. Dr. Willens made me feel extremely relaxed and comfortable with all the procedures he suggested that we do. I had terrific leg pain after going through back surgery, but with Dr. Willens knowledge of the problem, I am free of leg pain. He is caring and concerned, always calling the next day after a procedure to see how I fared. His staff is congenial and always made me feel at home with whatever questions I had. read more

This doctor is all about making money & not helping his patients. They try to push a lot of different products on you and cant even tell you how much they will be billing your insurance. My first visit bill was over $5000 charged to my insurance. Absurd. read more

I've been a patient for 2 years. Dr.Willen's & staff have helped me come a long way. Educating me on the various tools needed to treat pain. Until I became his patient I thought my only option was medication. Now I exercise, thanks to physical therapy sessions, wear my back brace a couple hours a day, in addition to injections & medication. My body is stronger now & my activity level improved. I'd love to start physical therapy again to move to next level but my co-pay is to much right now so I've got to wait until my plan improves in a couple of months. The only reason I didn't give a 5th star is because of the collecting practices. I'd love to be able to make a partial payment, just once, on physical therapy to get started but that's not their policy. This isn't really a negative mark on Dr.Willen's as my chronic pain physician. As far as his ability; It's Great!!! I am very Happy. This is just something I wish could be worked out. With all that said, if it were possible I'd rate 5 1/2 Stars but cannot do a half star. read more
