This is a great school to go to. I studied here and got my bachelor's degree. The professors are very caring and willing to help you out. Being a private school under the Seventh-day Adventist Church, the school is service motivated. They have many opportunities for you to do some community service. You can get quite involved in the community. They also have a student missions program. You can volunteer six months or a year of service here in the US or overseas. It's an awesome program to get involved with. One downside though is that it's a pretty pricey school. But the financial office will help you get the financial aid you need. They sometimes are able to get you some scholarships and grants, which it always nice. read more

SAU is a great University. Christian based. Internationally cultured. I love the nursing and music buildings. Wonderful programs.

Southern has everything a college students needs to succeed while offering an array of extracurricular activities that take the stress off being a student. Though I've only been a student here for 1 year and 2 months, I have enjoyed all that Southern has to offer. The faculty and staff are intentional in developing a relationship with each student and are flexible in assisting students with their courses. Classes within my program (Bio Pre-Med) so far have further enhanced my understanding of what it takes to become a doctor! What I've enjoyed most is the friends I have made in class and while being on the SAU gymnastics team called the Gymmasters...come on, the name is dope enough! I have a few more years to go here, but I can already say that Southern has become a second home. 10/10 would recommend! read more

This school is very cheap in both senses of the word. It is not an expensive school to go to (considering its a private school) . It's also cheap because in the first week I got there I found things wrong with my dorm. First, the sink is detached from there counter and we can move it around, the AC only works half of the time, the light by the hehe mirror only occasionally works, and the windows leak water in when it rains. We put in work orders for these, but nothing happened until there was a storm that made the leak so bad it was dripping into the room below us. THEN they "fixed" it. But the leak started up again a few days after. Then they posted a note by the lights that said "Lights DO work. Some are slow to come on." The light still to this day doesn't come on unless someone stands there and applies pressure t it while the other uses the mirror and sink area. Also the students are wierd and cliqueish. All inall, I really should've gone to LSU. P.S WHY ARE THE MEALS SO EXPENSIVE SIVE. WE ARE COLLEGE STUDENTS. YOU KNOW WE CAN'T AFFORD THIS. I'M STARVING HERE. read more

This college boasts itself as a great Christian college. In the three years that my family and I were down at Southern, only 3 people in the administration building at Wright Hall prayed with me, or my wife. This is NOT A FAMILY FRIENDLY COLLEGE. Non-Traditional students beware, this college WILL NOT work with you, in every way you could imagine. Spouses are not granted the same rights as students; They have to pay for use of Hulsey Wellness Center, the school library, and they are not allowed to hold any jobs on campus which are reserved for students who do not fill them. While the college will admit almost anyone in, it is more of a business decision than a "bring them closer to God" decision. The first semester, Student Finance will gladly work with you. Afterwards, and for the remainder of your time at SAU, they will hound you for money, with threats up to and including withdrawing you from classes, which will, in turn, remove you from housing, regardless of whether or not you have a family OR anywhere else to go. A favorite tactic used is offering a super easy personal loans which turn out to be an astoundingly horrendous decision. $7,000 loans charge incredible interest from the moment you receive it, can be called at any point whether you are in school or not, and go through companies such as Sallie Mae, which are notorious for their inability to grasp the concept that people cannot pay their entire paychecks into 3 or 4 different loans every month and consolidation is a taboo word. If you do happen to be suckered in to this ploy, SAU will also sign you up each semester without notifying you of doing so; you must tell them in person that you do not want to sign up for subsequent semesters. SAU also offers no financial help to students with families without you going in and fighting tooth and nail for grants and other financial gifts. During my time there, all of my friends with families with the exception of one (husband hated needles and wife was pregnant) had to work two or three jobs, and had to sell plasma in order to pay their tuition. Overall, I would give a 0 stars to SAU, but that is not allowed. So 1 star will have to do. Non-trads with families beware, your time will be some of the most difficult times of your life. read more
