The staff here seems to have issues. I gladly paid for gift wrapping and asked for price tags to be removed. The price stickers were tackily ripped and left to look cheap. The price tags were left on the items purposefully by the disengaged and shady sales associate.The staff here obviously struggles with customer service. I will never shop here again and I suggest that you don't. There are many other children's clothiers in the Charleston area. Don't waste your time at Southern Belles. read more

Zero rating. Sales clerks phony with fake smiles. Took my Niece into the store to browse. She was wearing a hair bow when we walked into the store. She wanted to try a hair band on. I walked her to a mirror to see herself. We put the hair band band back and left the store. A salesperson followed us out insinuating that I took the hair bow. Maybe you should be more aware of what your customers look like when they walk in. I'll be sure to tell everyone I know, not to shop there. read more

I am struggling to even give this one star. I have never seen such atrocious customer service in my life. Besides the fact that no one speaks to you when you arrive, the employees actually whisper like 3rd graders while you are there, and I can't believe I had the nerve to ask if another size was available in a cute little outfit I saw. The response I received, as the employee didn't make eye contact with me and stormed by me, "what we have is out, so I don't know you need to look!" And I think she was actually the owner. It's time to sell your store and move on. If you hate your job and interacting with people, why continue to run a business. Beware placing time constrained orders with Southern Belles. Such a disappointing experience at Southern Belles. I ordered two flower girl dresses from Southern Belles for my upcoming wedding. Since it was a custom order (for handmade heirloom dresses), I was told the order would take 6-8 weeks. Which I expected and I made sure to order my dresses well in advance for this reason. 9 weeks later and I still hadn't received any communication from Southern Belles that my order had arrived. I called in and was asked what the brand was that I had ordered. I did not know off the top of my head but I knew it had all been written down - along with my credit card # for the purchase. The associate couldn't help me (or find the file) but said someone would contact me ASAP. I called back after I hadn't received a phone call in a day. The next associate couldn't help me as well - but finally got a manager to call me back - 2 days later. Everyone seemed clueless to the order I had placed. They weren't sure why the order hadn't been shipped - however, I got the feeling the order had never even been placed. They said they were having trouble getting in touch with the brand. Over 2 weeks later I finally was told the order would be in by the end of the week and an associate would call me as soon as it had been delivered. Friday came and went and I did not receive a call. I called the store on Saturday to be told (rudely) that the order wasn't in and wouldn't be in for another week. We were now at 12 weeks and no dresses. I finally received the dresses at 13 weeks. It was a good thing I ordered the dresses in February when my wedding was in June. When I went to pick up my dresses they were just handed to me - already charged to my credit card, of course, with no apology whatsoever. I expressed my dissatisfaction in the process and lack of communication to the associates and manager and I was met with no apology and no responsibility taken for the issues. Their responses were rude and I was made to feel like I was in the wrong for my complaints. Once we got the dresses we found an issue in the sizing with one and again Southern Belles was no help and again were rude in their response. I actually was able to contact the dress maker herself (very easy to contact, by the way) and she offered to exchange the dress I had purchased from Southern Belles for another size. With no issues at all! If I had known this from the beginning I would have called the brand myself to order and take care of the dresses and never would have dealt with Southern Belles. Such an ordeal and unnecessary rudeness from the staff at Southern Belles. I am so glad I began my ordering process at such an early date or else we would not have dresses for the wedding. All of this is so unfortunate because in the past I have typically purchased all baby gifts from Southern Belles - but I won't in the future nor will I suggest them to other friends. read more

I hate going into the store. I feel uncomfortable every time. The employees are so bitchy. They're always talking bad about other customers behind their backs. Makes me wonder what they say about me after I leave. Being polite is not the same thing as being nice, The customer service is atrocious. read more

I've been in several times while in town visiting my mother, who lives in the Old Village. They carry some of the brands I buy in bulk - J Bailey, Johhnie O, and other "essential" little southern kid clothing lines I can't readily find where we live. Every time I go in, I have to laugh at the staff - they are appallingly rude and completely unhelpful. I'd say it was just me, but they are apparently known for being rude to everyone - not saying hello or asking if they can be of assistance, which is needed in the cluttered, crowded, disorganized store (I always feel like I'm on an episode of Hoarders when I go in.) My mom and her crowd of grandmother pals (who love to drop some coin on kid clothes) say they are all treated poorly and do everything they can to shop elsewhere. I was willing to tolerate the poor service - after all I'm just running in to pick things up, I don't usually bring my child with me - BUT.... I found another alternative less than a mile away: Ragamuffins. Same clothes, SUPER sweet and helpful sales women, and they seemed more than happy to take time to be helpful. As a result, I'm more than happy to spend the same amount (well, probably MUCH more) in Ragamuffins and leave Southern Belles alone, which is what they seem to desire. read more

I will NEVER make a purchase from this store again ! Sent gift for newborn out of state for $15 shipping. As is the case for newborn clothes it was washed before wearing. Seam opened upon doing so. Since I was going back to Charleston I offered to bring it back. Was told that since it was washed they couldn't exchange or credit. After my not just accepting this, sales clerk went back to check again w/ management who determined that they would repair, but wanted me to pay again 9assume $15 again)to resend it to recipient. I called the manufacturer & was advised to "call the store manager who should have know better". The company says that when there is an issue of quality the retailers know that the manufacturer stands behind the merchandise & it would only take a few moments for them to do an RA for the customer. She gave me the store managers name & had me call back, which I did. At this point the store manager begrudgingly said if I would come back in she would have it repaired & would send it out again. Really !! I spent 30 minutes going there & back & am leaving for home tomorrow. $15 initial shipping for a $28 sleeper. I truly don't know of any other store that would handle things this way. read more

My daughter just started walking, so my husband and I took her to Southern Belles a couple of weeks ago to look for shoes. We had never been there before. The saleslady who assisted us was initally helpful, but upon leaving, I asked her where the restroom is because I needed to change my daughter's diaper. She told me that they don't allow diaper changes due to health code regulations. I was shocked and appalled! Here is a store that profits from selling clothes, toys, and accessories for babies and children, but they won't allow their customers to change a diaper in the restroom?? To make things worse, there was a large dog lying in the middle of the store, which I presumed belonged to the owner. How can they say that it's a health code violation to allow diaper changes in the restroom, yet it's not a violation to allow the owner's dog to stretch out in the middle of the store?? Furthermore, I've never heard of any health code regulation that prohibits diaper changes in a store like that. Plenty of restaurants have changing tables in the restrooms; if you can change a diaper in a place that prepares food, then you can surely change one in a children's store! It is truly a shame because Southern Belles carries some beautiful clothes and toys, but I will not set foot in there again! read more
