I've already worked in bars and restaurants and have a few years of experience behind the bar, but after mostly serving for a few years I've wanted to gain more knowledge and get back into it and so I was gifted this class to learn more and refresh some skills and it was a really positive and helpful experience. Terry and Kristen were my instructors and they were amazing! Both are knowledgeable and passionate and great at teaching. It was a very friendly environment where any and all questions were welcomed and we got to hear examples and stories and they made everything really fun and low pressure but still professional. The owner of the company, Laura, is the one who does the videos for your at-home learning and she is wonderful. Watching the videos felt like listening to a friend. Great to put on while you're driving or doing chores to absorb all the info. She's very professional but also funny and real and she truly wants others to succeed in the industry and feel prepared. You get hours of hands on practice, with a real bar set up and all the real glassware and supplies, plus the dyed liquids to represent all the different liquors and mixers and the faux fruit and mint garnishes were so cute to work with so it all felt like making the real drinks. They have you make drinks and repeat to help you really learn them. There is a lot of information and studying but it doesn't feel overwhelming. The whole vibe of the program is that they want you to do well and leave feeling confident and for me that was definitely accomplished. I had such a wonderful time learning something new during the 2-week training course with Kristen! It was very fast-paced but there was always time to step back and learn all the why's and how's of mixology. I feel much more confident with making (and ordering) drinks now from all the attention to detail when it came to spirits, mixers, techniques and everything else. We also had the opportunity to learn about the different types of workplaces and bartending subcultures, and we were also taught some tips and tricks by Rhianna during our course. I also watched EVERY ONLINE VIDEO made available by the school before starting the course which helped me tremendously. Im really glad they give you access to those once you purchase the course. I knew next to nothing about alcohol so I familiarized myself with the basic types of alcohol their categories and also famous brand names using both the online videos & Chat GPT.
