I have been driving past this bartending school for over 10 years and I have always wanted to sign up for the course. I decided to just sign up for the course one day and I'm so happy I did it. This bartending school is very welcoming, laid back, and a place that you can really learn the fundamentals of bartending. The main thing that I love is that each person has their own station. Jordan has all these tips and tricks (even about reporting how much tip you make) from his real-world experiences as a bartender. He's been bartending since the 80's. There is a job placement database you get access to around the 2nd week and he also teaches you how to serve wine properly and food serving. I took the Saturday 6-week course at Pacific Bartending School, taught by Dan the owner. Let me say that Dan took a bit of time explaining why bartending courses given by other schools aren't worth your time or money (he showed us ads of these "schools" recruiting ex-students, clearly not requiring much experience to teach). He also makes sure you know certain things to make sure you can PASS FOR A PROFESSIONAL in a real setting... which is integral to landing and keeping a gig. Dan mentioned how both he and his father were bartenders, and he makes sure that you know the particulars of the art and the recipes that matter. In my experience, Dan really did teach me the 'important' ones that get requested most, including from an older generation/crowd. I find that -- as I continue to go to bars in LA, I know more drink recipes and am more prepared than some bartenders who clearly have been tending for awhile... Also, how to pour correctly & quickly, how to setup and breakdown a bar, etc. Yes, as some reviewers have mentioned, he does occasionally make a loud noise or yell if you are doing something like say, touching your fingers to the tops of straws, but you know what? I LEARNED not to do that, and I remember now. Dan is right, that is a big no-no for a pro... He's a GREAT teacher and I highly recommend. read more

No wasted time on excessive lecture and book material. I'm a nuts and bolts kinda guy so this was all me. Dan is incredible! He is a true, professional bartender and teaches you nothing but the best. The schedule is very flexible so if you miss a class it's extremely easy to make it up. I would recommend Dan to anyone looking into going to a bar tending school. He even makes remembering the drinks very fun by using funny words. I'll never forget Very Trendy Chicks Like the Twist =) I notice the review where it says he hits and curses at you and I never once had that issue with Dan. Yes, on my first day he corrected my form and adjusted my hands and wrists when bottle pouring but just to show me the correct way to do things. It was never hurtful or uncalled for. I never even heard him cursing. If you are still unsure about Dan and his training go see for yourself on Mondays for FREE.
