We found this place by just googling dog friendly and it it. We enjoyed the laid back feel sitting outside eating dinner and watching kids play in the open area. We were traveling through and had our dog with us so outside seating was important. There's a covered front patio and another area along side the building. I went to Southern hops just for a solo evening outing. I got a beer flight and the ham ang Bean soup. The soup was hearty and reminded me of my mom's lima beans. For my flight I got razz sour, woo-tang, tiger king and razz beret. My favorite was the razz sour and the woo-tang. The flights were inexpensive so I got 2. The bartender was nice and quick. Absolutely a MUST visit whenever you're in Florence, SC. Locally owned and operated, there are only 2 locations; both are in the Pee Dee region of SC. Burgers, pizzas, wings, and salads are just some of the delicious foods you can experience there. Fair warning, if you are looking for foods prepared in a deep fryer, this is NOT the place for you. They don't use a deep fryer to produce any of their recipes. Ask about their signature egg roll of the day. The ham and gouda are my favorite. And if you like a fried bologna sandwich, you have to catch that special at the right time; almost like it is on a "Secret Menu'....but it is awesome. They always have an extensive list of craft beers. Danny, Aaron, and the rest of the staff are always on their game with regards to customer service and experience. You can routinely see the owner. My wife and I took an overnight trip to Florence to see a play at the Little Florence Theater and stopped to eat here. We ordered a Tuscan pizza with double jalapenos. The pizza was a 3.75 out of 5. Which I think is pretty good. I ordered the southern hops red and it was great. 4.5 bottle caps out of 5! What put the whole experience over the top was our waiter, Rylan. Super great attitude and just the right amount of attention without being suffocating. Plus he made sure that I got the last 6 pack of amber to go they had! We sat outdoors on the patio. Located next door to Family Dollar on W Palmetto St. This was a mid day visit about 4:30 on Saturday very sparse crowd, lots of indoor seating. The menu has many more options than Wild Hearts brewery in Hartsville. I choose 1 beer flight; negative is the samples were not labeled. We were just getting drinks mid day and light eating w a cup of chilli. Nitpicking but all their brews were labeled as from Murrells Inlet so they don't have own recipes. Love love love... I was director of ops and chef for a beer restaurant in CT so I was excited to check this place out. The server (Quentin) was on point, helped me pick a couple different beers, knew the menu well and the food was stellar. I did the reaper wings- my only comment is I wish they were hotter, I was expecting to ask for tissues and milk lol.. they had a lot of flavor. Also did the 6 pepper wings, I loved this, I used to do a 5 day fermented pepper and it reminded me a little of that but the dry rub version. I also took a Buffalo pizza to go, it hit my 3 am munchies perfectly. I can't wait to come back. I travel once a month and think I found my new hang out, hopefully I can find a spot at the bar next time but if not it's all good cause he service kicks ass. read more

Looking for a place to get something to eat on our way to Charleston, SC from Winston-Salem, NC, we targeted Florence to stop. We were down to two choices and ultimately settled on Southern Hops Brewing Company. My wife and I arrived about 4:30pm on a Friday. We were immediately surprised how big the place was inside. It made us think of what a large barndominium could look like inside. There is also table seating on the front porch. The bar area is toward the back and has multiple TV's. They also have a beer garden area to the right of the building with access from inside. We asked if we could have a seat in the bar area at a table and they took us to one. In a short while we were provided menus and offered drinks. We were surprised to see that all house brews were temporarily unavailable because their new brew site was under construction. We thought to each other, how did that happen? They did have lot's of other beers but how does a brewery not have their own beer? We decided to try their pretzel appetizer with beer cheese. My wife ordered 10 naked baked wings. She like that the wings were baked and not fried. I ordered a 12 inch Amanti Della Carne pizza with no Gremolata. The pretzel arrived first and looked really good, however, we wish it came with more beer cheese. it was not enough to finish the pretzel. Our entrees arrived shortly after and looked delicious. My wife loved the wings and the pizza was just as good. Overall this was good stop, we love the buildings interior and seating, the food was very good (with more beer cheese for the pretzel), but, not having their own beer in a brewery is a significant negative for a beer connoisseur, therefore resulting in the low rating. read more

Stopped on a Saturday night on the way to New England, we were seated quickly . Ryland was or server, he was excellent! We had had a 5 Points IPA an inlet hazey IPA drafts both were good. Passing thru Florence on our way to NJ. Needed a place that was dog friendly for dinner. Southern Hops is the first place that popped up on Yelp as dog friendly. We sat outside at the "beer Garden", which is nothing more then an open air back patio overlooking an empty lot. They have a covered area for outdoor dining as well. Menu was focused, total casual fare. We had the pulled pork sandwich and the lowcountry shrimp burrito. Both, very good, fresh and tasty. Service was excellent, and food was delivered very quickly. This place was crazy busy. Even for a Saturday night. Had to drive to what I think is a third parking lot. In my flight I got the Southern Hops Pops Pilsner, Goldilocks Blonde, Aries Marzen, and the Beach Peach American Pale Wheat. Pops was a really good Pilsner. It had just the right amount of everything to create a well balanced beer and a smooth finish. Goldilocks was very close to the Pilsner. Aries was not as dark as the typical Marzen I'm used to but it had the flavor. Also a good choice. Beach Peach was my favorite. I didn't think I would like this one. It's not cloudy like a typical wheat beer but it has the flavors of a wheat beer. I could see this as a favorite at summer BBQs. My waitress Sarah Grace was outstanding. Always there for me when I needed her. I ordered the smokehouse burger which was outstanding. Lots of flavors. Especially liked the peppered bacon. It was the sweet with the hot. My last flight was Rooster, peach Wheat (again), waccamaw wheat and sunset. Rooster was a nice red ale. Balanced and smooth unlike other red ales that tend to have a bite at the end. Waccamaw was another wheat that was not cloudy. It was the wheat without the peach. I liked the peach better. Sunset had a bit of a strange citrus taste to it. I drank it but this was my least favorite. I've stopped here before on my travels to and from conferences in Florida. I'll definitely be back. The atmosphere was pretty chill and the live music was great but the food was severely lacking. They offer a little bit of everything but the best tasting item on the menu was the burger. We had a soccer team and their parents so we all tried different items. The nachos had a few clumps of chicken (not seasoned), the pizza looks amazing but the sauce threw the whole flavor off. It wasn't good at all. The grilled cheese wasn't buttered and fried in a skillet. It was some plain white bread and cheese. The Mac n cheese was okay but could've been better. Overall if you're just going for beer it's great. Don't go during game day though because there are very few tvs, so not a sports bar vibe either. We were traveling from Virginia to Florida with our two shepherds and decided to have lunch. This place was perfect for us! Nice outdoor seating with a large grassy area. We called ahead for an order because at least at this location, online ordering wasn't available that night. We ordered a large size Luigi pizza and a Caesar salad to share. The pizza was huge and delicious - not just a pizza for pizza's sake. Just the right amount of prosciutto, lots of garlic and arugula, and tender crust. So this place is huge. Very casual and they had a band playing in the corner that was amazing. They had a lot of beers on tap to make flights the way you want. Great selection. The pizza was really good and there is a huge difference in sizes the large is absolute huge and the small a little bigger than a personal pan. I was beat after a long workday and also needed someplace that I could have leftovers for lunch. I was going to try King Jefe but the line was out the door and I was impatient. I came to Southern Hops and it was busy but I was able to get a seat right away. I ordered a seltzer that was supposed to taste like Tang - it wasn't a full pour because the keg was tapped so they took it off my bill without me asking (which was super nice!). It wasn't my favorite but that's my own fault since I didn't ask to try it first. I ended up getting the pretzels to start with beer cheese - the pretzel was really good and beer cheese had a good taste but was a little too thick. I ended up getting the pretzel pub chicken sandwich which was tasty. I was going to get mac and cheese for a side but they were out at the moment so I wound up with pasta salad. I took the slammin hammy to go for the next day with a fresh fruit side. The sandwich was good but the fresh fruit was two slices of pineapple and a few green grapes - not the best showing. This place is quite large inside with a very small stage in one corner for live music and entertainment. You cant miss the very long bar and they serve hard liquor and have a full food menu too. They brew 4 beers in house and then run a bunch of other craft beers on tap as well. All 4 of their in house beers will run you 5 bucks a pint. Additionally, they must have at least 25 other beers available in cans and bottles and most of those are crafty. If you like beer, this place will have your bases covered. A voluminous food menu can be found with what looks like much more than typical bar food. Very interesting dishes and prices seemed pretty reasonable for the type of food they offer. Yes, they have free Wifi and they have q good sound system with music playing at a comfortable volume. If you like dark beers, try their in house Blackwater porter. read more

I was really craving chicken wings, but our waitress was kind enough to tell us they were a little on the small side so I opted for the chicken philly - usually my "go to". I can honestly say I've never had a Philly that wasn't on a hoagie roll so it was a little unexpected. I guess I didn't read the menu real close (I was wanting wings). Cool little place that looked hopping. Sat at the bar and had a good beer selection. Cheap flight for $6- I tried a couple they were okay not my favorites. Ordered the special egg roll and they just weren't breaded enough for me. Breading tasted like a cracker instead of an egg roll. The southern burger was OUTSTANDING. We started out with the barbecue pork eggrolls which was a nice start to our meal. I decided to try their chicken wings and got five Garlic Parmesan wings and five Hoppin' flavored wings with a Caesar salad. The Hoppin' wings were some of the best I've had and I'm quite the wing connoisseur. I decided to not decide on my beer and got a flight instead. I tried one house beer and two guest appearance beers and one blackberry cider. My colleague got the smokehouse burger and he didn't stop talking about it even the next day. We stopped here to take a break during our trip back from the beach. We just had drinks and shared their pretzels with beer cheese. I had a flight of their standard house beers. We really liked the large twisted pretzels with beer cheese. The service was pleasant and efficient. The facility houses the brewery and is large inside. It has a bar and areas with high top tables and regular dining tables. They appeared to have a decent pub menu although we were not interested in a full meal.
