I hired Southern Lighting Designs for outdoor lighting work in Lakeway and had a very disappointing experience. The job was never completed, parts of the lighting were left tangled around wiring, and their ladder remained at my house for weeks. I repeatedly called, texted, and emailed Anthony trying to get the work finished and received little to no communication. Anthony did respond once, but after promising to return the following week, he stopped responding again and I've never heard from him. I made multiple attempts to resolve this directly before posting a review. Unfortunately, the project was left unfinished and communication was extremely poor. I had Anthony place outdoor lighting for me 4 years ago. It was a fairly big job (front of 2 story house, sidewalks and about 20 trees). It made a dramatic difference and I always get compliments on the aesthetic result. Anthony has an amazing artistic eye. Why I wanted to leave a review now is because Anthony comes back every year to check on the lights, reposition them, fix the ones my yard guys broke, replaced the ones the roofers knocked down, and today he replaced a transformer. Most of the materials are still under warranty. Not only is his work beautiful and high quality, the maintenance of it is impeccable. I wanted to put in landscape lighting for years in order to make our own use of our yard more pleasant but also to improve street appeal. I have put it off for years because I always heard that it would cost many thousands of dollars. Last year I decided to get some bids and was bummed that many came back at least $5,000 or above. Then I met southern lighting designs. I found them on yelp and within a few days, Anthony was at our house. He came out at least five times during the afternoon to get lights set up and then stayed around so that we could look at them after sunset. He was creative in terms of finding unique solutions. He was able to advise on the most cost-effective strategies. And the final cost could not have been more than $1500. Granted... it was not a huge area... but the prices were unreal. Anthony got our lights set up Lutron (which I think was about $100), I did to my iPhone and on an automatic schedule. I had such a positive experience with him that I wanted to find even more things we could do together. So I persuaded one of my neighbors to light their entire house with it and they had an awesome experience. And now I have Anthony coming back to light our front yard. In sum: - great value: I was going to be at least $5000 it was closer to 1000. - amazing service: I paid only for the fixtures themselves which had a baked-in installation cost. All in the labor seems like it was nearly $0. He came out at least six times to make sure we had the right things set up and to make sure the installation was excellent. He even followed up with my neighbors six months later to make sure they were happy with the lights. - great product: The fixtures themselves are these very elegant brushed bronze fixtures that are very heavy and high-quality, give a very powerful light, and are integrated with a very high tech solution to give me real-time scene selection and dimming. Down side? You might annoy your neighbors now that your house looks so much better than theirs. read more

They installed naturalistic path lighting in several trees, ran an underground line and set up an outlet in our backyard pagoda, replaced a few ancient motion-activated sconces, and installed a security light on our garage, all in only 1 day. Southern Lighting Designs' Anthony Tovar is excellent. He won our business over two other contractors. He replaced our path lighting along our driveway with ten (10) new Volt fixtures, tying into the existing transformer. He set them up perfectly in the daylight. The view at night required no additional adjustments. He added the Lutron Caseta Smart System, which enables wireless control and scheduling.
