Since I was pregnant, my treatment options were limited. Before Thanksgiving, I called to make an appointment to see Dr. McKeon. She helped my husband with some wrist pain he had so I knew she could help me. They couldn't see me for almost two months but I knew it would be worth the wait. Parking and navigating the building was a bit confusing but I eventually found where her office was located. The check in process was quick and easy. My appointment was at 9:00 and I was called back around 8:55 AM. Dr. McKeon was in the room by 9:05 AM. She diagnosed me and gave me an injection to help. She gave me some literature on my diagnosis and told me what to expect and what to do if the pain resumes. For the first time in six months, I feel like my wrist is going to get better. I hope I don't have to come back but if I need their services, I wouldn't hesitate to do so.

Despite multiple attempts, I have been unable to reach the billing department. When I called the office for assistance, they were unable to help and simply transferred me back to billing, where no one answers the phone. To make matters worse, the note on the bill threatened collections. I attempted to pay the balance online, but the Phreesia payment system froze and would not complete the transaction. At this point, I have tried every available option: The billing department does not answer calls. The office staff cannot answer billing questions. Calls are routed back to billing with no resolution. The online payment system is not functioning. The physicians may provide good care, but the administrative and billing experience has been unacceptable. If patients cannot get answers to billing questions or make payments through the available channels, there are serious organizational issues that need to be addressed. The quality of care I have received has been more consistent than it has not. There have been one or two individuals I haven't cared for, but I took the proper channels to address them. Parking is a pain like any other medical facility so be sure to account for that when deciding your arrival time. Be aware of EVERYONE walking in the garage. Someone will pop around a vehicle in a blind spot quickly. They have coffee that you can purchase at the cart or Starbucks if you just really need it. Sneaky Pete's and Wall Street Deli are easily accessible if you don't bring your own food, snacks, drinks and of course there are other options you can walk or drive to if able (sending someone else is ideal if you're here for treatments instead of a regular appt). Bathrooms are clean/checked often, facility is clean, most staff is pleasant/helpful. I find it easy to navigate by following the signage. Add some additional time for elevator wait times in case they are busier than normal. This is a high traffic building in general. My main complaint (0/5) is with the changes in the 5th floor infusion clinic (I can't speak for other areas). The individual that took them over at the end of last year has made several changes. One of the main ones I find an issue with is claiming there is no budget for snacks or drinks for the patients anymore. It used to be customary to offer a snack and drinks upon receiving your treatments to help with nausea, mask the horrible taste you have while receiving treatments, provide something for your time there, etc. I bring my own anyway, but there are several individuals who simply forget, don't focus on it because or pain or discomfort, or cannot afford to do so. There were 6 complaints I heard in the pod I was in for my most recent treatments over this change. I loveeeee the nurses here and even they aren't pleased delivering the news each time. UAB makes entirely too much money to claim $.05 cheez its, peanut butter crackers, chips, etc are out of budget. They offered that and more plus ginger-ale, juice, other sodas or water for years! The little things tell you if a facility cares about/values you as a patient. If you think people don't notice - they do. Even from something the higher ups feel is so small.

Dr. Mallempati: 5 stars His staff: 1 star…read more We made an appointment to see Dr. Mallempati in the Pell City location, which by the way, is not easy to find. He's only at this location one day a week, I think, and they use another doctor's office/optometrist (?) facility. There's really nothing that tells you he's there and when you're standing in line to sign in, there's a sign for a dermatology office and another for St. Clair Eye. We had to ask, "Are we in the right place?" So they took us back to a room within a few minutes - less than 30 minutes in the waiting area - and then... more waiting. We ended up waiting almost 2 hours and then finally someone came in and they admitted they totally forgot we were there. Ok, fine. They owned up to it and apologized, it's ok - we can move on from that. Dr. Mallempati was great, very thorough, and great bedside manner. He schedules an MRI and wanted us to come back after for a follow up. MRI was done and we return one week later. This time we saw him in his main location and thankfully, wait time was much better. His nurse practitioner saw us first and she was very thorough, but she interrupted us when we tried to tell her something and we had to make her listen. We saw Dr. Mallempati again, and he was great. He wanted us to schedule a nerve block which would be performed at Surgical Institute of Alabama. We immediately scheduled the nerve block for Dec 23rd, 2025 to be done at Surgical Institute, BUT they (Surgical Institute) would call us the day prior to confirm the time. No food or drink the day of the nerve block (prior to). Also, a 3 week follow up post-nerve block would be scheduled with Mallempati. December 22nd comes and by 3:30 p.m., we still had not received confirmation. We call Surgical Institute and the lady who answered the phone said, "What's your name? Oh yes, we have you down for tomorrow and they WILL be confirming this, but we're just really backed up. But you will hear something." We go to bed at 9 pm, still no word. December 23rd comes and we've taken vacation from work and are sitting here, waiting to hear. At 7:30 a.m., I call Surgical Institute and the lady who answered said rather rudely that that she had no idea what we were talking about, no appointment was scheduled for us. We repeated the story about how someone at her office said we WERE on schedule, and she kept repeating, "You need to call Mallempati's office - no one from there has ever sent us anything to do with your information." I called Tracy, Dr. Mallempati's nurse, and left a voice mail to PLEASE call us ASAP. By 9:30 a.m., we gave up hope and decided to eat/drink since obviously the nerve block wasn't happening. It's April 19th, 2026 and Tracy nor anyone else at OrthoAlabama Spine has yet to call us back. We've been completely ghosted by this facility, as if we were never there. We've told everyone we know to avoid this place - which is sad, because Dr. Mallempati is great.
