I gave 1 Star because I phoned on a Monday to schedule an appt and the gentleman told me he could get me in on Wednesday. I was beyond thrilled. I inherited my mother's bad knees (creaky since my 20's) and now 40, I'm experiencing some pain. I enjoy working out and it has been painful at times. I wanted X-rays, a diagnosis, information and guidance on moving forward. I waited for 2 hours before I was seen. Dr Young came in, leaned against the counter with his arms crossed and said my X-rays looked great! I was pleased. He placed his hand on my knee and asked me to bend it up and down. His response was "Yep, you've got crunchy knees." Every single question I asked was answered with, " It'll be in the papers I give you, you can look it up online." I asked about relief, exercises do's and dont's, treatment options. The answers were all the same, " it'll all be in the papers I give you, you can look it up online." He told me to hang on and he'd grab the papers, he quickly walked out, left the door open, only for a nurse to come in with the papers to see me out. No nice to meet you, take care, nothing. In and out. He had no bedside manners, no courtesy or professionalism for that matter. It shouldn't matter, but I'm also a Private Pay patient as I don't have medical insurance. I waited until I had the means to be seen by a specialist and this is what I got. He made me feel like patient 1042, rather than patient 1. All doctors should listen to their patients, address their concerns and not rush our appointments or feel as though our time was waisted. I do not recommend Dr John Young.

The surgeon told me it was one of the worst injuries he has seen in a guy in his mid-30's. The day after surgery I walked into Therapy South Vestavia to begin the road to recovery. The staff was absolutely incredible. Every time I walked in, they were attentive, knowledgeable, and were personally engaged in my recovery. Today, I completed three months of Physical Therapy to restore my shoulder to full mobility and get back to normal life. I can lift my small kids over my head, get back in the gym, and throw a ball with my oldest for the upcoming Spring baseball season. I can honestly I would not be where I am today with the folks at Therapy South. I have been through PT elsewhere in Birmingham and they cannot compare to the quality of Therapy South. Not only that but every time I did ask questions, Kevin especially would give me some smart ass answer like he was mad at me for not knowing what he wanted me to do. I told him I have a Disability that impairs my short term memory and he basically laughed in my face and said how many weeks have we been doing this now? It's absolutely ridiculous that someone would try to embarass me for simply asking them to do THEIR JOB.

I took my completed paperwork with me and got signed in quickly; however, I sat and watched every caucasian patient that came in before me and after me called to the back until there were only four black patients sitting in the waiting room. Note that there were two of these black patients that got there before I did so I got up and asked for my appointment to be cancelled and the gall of the receptionist to ask if I wanted to reschedule was all I could keep from blowing up. I have great medical insurance that will be used at a more reputable office with reputable care. This racist office staff is despicable! I'm furious and I'm seeking an attorney's advice to see if I have a case against this racist act.
