We had an amazing time on the Southern Wave sunset cruise in South Padre Island! We went to celebrate our anniversary, and even though it was cloudy and the sun didn't really make an appearance, it was still such a beautiful and memorable evening. The atmosphere was relaxing, and there was a guy playing guitar and singing, which made the whole experience even better. The dinner was amazing. They started us off with shrimp, then served chicken and beef fajitas, grilled fish, and fruit cups for dessert. Everything was delicious. I also loved that it was BYOB, so we were able to bring our own drinks and enjoy the evening our way. Such a fun and special experience. Beautiful evening for a sunset cruise on the bay! The Southern Wave is a catamaran that glides through the water. We experienced a very smooth ride in our 2-hour sail. Captain Nick greeted us with a warm smile and gracious assistance into the boat. Hannah provided outstanding service from the moment we boarded until we stepped ashore. The chef worked throughout the cruise to grill our shrimp appetizer and dinner of chicken and beef fajitas and cut fresh fruit for dessert. Live music featuring a singer (didn't catch her name) with a beautiful voice who was talented at playing acoustic guitar created a relaxed vibe that perfectly fit the setting. Next we were served beef and chicken fajitas on corn or flour tortillas along with all the fixings. AJ did a fantastic job making sure we had plenty to eat, would bring us drinks and remove our trash. All there is to the trip was just the captain (Christian) taking you out to the shallow area of the water so that way you can swim and snorkel with the fishes, while the captain cooked burgers and hot dogs for everyone. Fun experience for all. I didn't snorkel much just cause Everytime I saw a fish I got spooked! Lol plus we had kids on board who fed the fishes when they weren't supposed to. So seeing all those fishes in the water scared me. Definitely give it a try. read more

Wasn't sure what to expect. There was a large group of people waiting to board this sailing vessel. So we followed and found some comfortable seats. The crew was small, but extremely nice and friendly with everyone. One was in charge of cooking/grilling and the others were in charge of the sailing the boat and pointing out a few sights. We have two great experiences on the Southern Wave cats with Tino and his crew. First, the Sunset Dinner Cruise was amazing, a great leisurely cruise along the bay as the sun sets, while admiring some of the beautiful beach homes and condos. Food was delicious, shrimp, chicken/beef fajitas with all the fixings, grilled fresh fish and fruit. The second was a snorkeling trip 30 min out, couple hours of snorkeling and lunch of grilled hamburgers and hotdogs. 3 hours round trip. Really great too. My husband booked the snorkle trip for us and our kids, 2 14 yrs and 1 12 yr old. This was perfect and worth the money! You get to explore the bay and all the beautiful homes. We come to SPI in the off season to kiteboard on the coast and the flats. For kiters when there is no wind, not much to do here, so we were lucky to find Southern Wave! We joined them for a sunset cruise on their motorized sail boat along the very edge of the flats. The food was good and plentiful, you wont leave hungry! They started out with prawns then onto fish and steak tacos and finished up with a fruit platter and chocolate! They offer unlimited soft drinks and water, BYOB! The service was amazing, they tend to you non-stop! They have a musician on board for some ambiance! When the sun started to go down, out came the mosquitoes and out came the staff with bug repellant!! They plan for everything!!! It was such a nice evening on the water. Not to crowded, our boat wasn't full. They take up to 35 people, we probably had 25+. Prices are very reasonable!! read more

This was the highlight of our trip! It was my husbands birthday and I forgot to get him a cake so I asked the lady if there was anyway they could make one. She said they couldn't, but she went to Walmart picked up cupcakes and had them write happy birthday on there for me. My husband was surprised. What happened to this catamaran dinner experience, it used to be good. The boat was overcrowded, I counted 38 customers from where I was sitting by the bow but probably missed a few that were sitting by cockpit area. HEB packaged fajitas were announced as one of the best on the island. Live music on board got annoying after the 5th song as the guitar player managed to play all songs strumming the same rhythm. Front of the boat is getting old and was somewhat dirty. We saw another catamaran cruise which actually sailed under sail and into the bay, not just motoring along the shoreline. Upon our return, I found it and that trip costs the same on a newer cat that actually sails onto the sea and much better menu. It is called Ka Motion Sailing Adventure. We booked it for tomorrow. read more

We took the snorkeling reservation that started at 11. The captain, Christian, was very knowledgeable and welcoming for the entire tour providing us with everything we needed for the duration of the trip. This place deserves 10 stars!!!! We came to south padre for my birthday and bought the 3 activity package. 2 hour dinner cruise/3 hour snorkel/30 min jet ski rental for $235. Let me just say....IT WAS WORTH EVERY DOLLAR. Dinner Cruise: We arrived at 6pm, and we were welcomed with nothing but smiling faces. It was BYOB and once we went aboard we were greeted and offered to put our beer on ice right away. The boat started sailing right at 6:30 and one of the crew members was playing music and singing to us which was great. Erika was our hostess and she did a awesome job serving all 20+ of us. We first started with an appetizer of delicious grilled shrimp, which was followed by chicken/ beef fajitas, fish, fresh fruit and all of the fix ins. The food was perfect. The remainder of the sail was very romantic following a beautiful sunset. Snorkel: Unfortunately our snorkel was cancelled due to the red tide happening so we will definitely be doing that next time. We were offered a refund. Jet Ski: Since our snorkel was cancelled we were offered the refund but we asked if we could possibly have 2 single jet skis vs the single 1 that came with the package. The crew definitely worked with us and approved. It was my first time riding and it was a good experience. We were able to get away with an extra 15 minutes. All in all I will definitely be coming back for their water sport and cruise packages. It's a must do in SPI. read more

The word is out. This sunset cruise is the shiznit. The boat was packed this time...even though it was off season. You'll need to get in line early to get a good spot under the canopy. But you can BYOB so drink it up while your in the line. The boat captain and chef have remained the same but the waitress and entertainment changes from time to time. At first, $50 seems a bit steep for a 2 hour sunset cruise, but add in the cost of dinner and the savings of drinking booze at retail prices and you realize that watching the sunset at one of the bayside restaurants would've cost you about the same price. And the shrimp and fajitas that the chef makes are tremendous. read more
