It was ok. Based on the reviews I was expecting it to be better. It was extremely hard to hear and understand them, the mic volume wasn't great or clear so half the time we didn't know what was going on. The kids were moderately entertained (4 and 6). The kids liked the "tattoos". It was a one and done for us. No fault of their own, but we didn't see dolphins so that was a bummer. read more

What a fun and cute thing to do with your kids. They put on a small show and will have kids partake in the show . The crew members all dress up in full pirate costumes, the one draw back is it feel like a short boat ride . But other than that it's fun and silly fun with your kids. read more

The Black Dragon Pirate Ship has pirates, interactive fun, a cannon, music, fun for all ages, sight seeing for dolphins, learning about the island and the sunset. We had so much fun! What an awesome experience! We saw a ship as we crossed the bridge to get to South Padre Island and saw the pirate ship in the waters. Our hotel had a sign for the company and we booked the trip online. The crew was amazing. Several fun activities that were pirate themed like a version of Hot Potato but with a toy crab, water pistol battles, sword battles and more. The crew was amazing, cracking pirate jokes and singing. Everyone on board had a great time. Def recommended. read more

We saw this while looking for things to do while vacationing on South Padre Island. Seemed a little pricey but we have a 10 year old son with an amazing imagination so we were game! Do NOT question the price, it is worth EVERY penny!!! They do so many different things to keep the kids entertained & very engaged. I am pretty sure when we come back we will go again. Staff never went out of character. They had the kids wear name tags so they were called by name. You can tell this is not their first rodeo. What's a pirate's favorite letter? You think it is R (arrrrr) but actually, they prefer the C... That. Silly, giggly, groan-worthy, happy laughs. If you're up for a few hours of turning your brain off and your sense of humor on, then this is the place for you! My 11 year old was a little stand-offish at first thinking it would be too baby-ish for her. Well, 5 minutes in to it and there was that beautiful smile that overtook her entire face - and subsequently ours. It was ok for her to be a kid, to laugh, to wear a painted on mustache and beard, to sword fight (nerf) and scalliwag (sp?) and be in the moment. This was our family's favorite thing to do! We will be back. The crew was engaging, entertaining, and overall fun! They gave away little prizes to kids, had a sword fight, water pistol fight and a "treasure hunt." My kids loved it. We did the firework cruise, and there's not a bad seat on the boat. Highly suggest booking the firework cruise at least a month in advance. Thankfully they do not overcrowd/overbook the boat and it really makes it enjoyable for everyone. read more

Aaaarrrrr!!!! Ahoy Matey! What a great tour to take with the kids if you're in the South Padre area! The Captain and crew absolutely love their job. I didn't see a single kid that didnt have a great time! Oh, and there is a full bar on board. We had a 10 and 12 year old that had a blast. We even planned for this trip weeks in advance as you can see the pirate hat with dreadlocks - anything to embarrass my kid! For all you land lovers - the ship is super stable and plenty of room to see the high seas from every angle. I sailed with the scurviest rapscallions of the 7 seas! What talented actors on this day cruise! I am convinced to be a paid pirate entertainer aboard the Black Dragon must be the dream, and I'm ready to quit my day job. I can not say enough about this experience. From the moment we stepped foot on this pier, it was as if we had fell into our own Jack Sparrow adventure. We started out in the gift shop where we got decked out in pirate gear and found our weapons of choice. Then off to watch the talented acrobatic fire show (make sure to arrive early...you don't wanna miss this). Then we set sail, and the magic began. There is no way you could not enjoy this adventure that included sword fights, water gun fights, cannon blasts, fireworks, great food and drinks and booty...yes there is a treasure chest. We had a great time! We are adults with no kids and this seemed like a good time that did not disappoint. Our pirates were excellent and played up a crowd that was kind of afternoon tired at the moment. They hyped everyone up, took pictures with the kids and adults, and made the experience feel personal giving everyone nicknames and pulling guests into the entertainment. Let's start by saying I had reservations about taking this trip. We have a 4 yr old and I just wasn't sure if my family, my daughter or I would enjoy a couple of hours out on the boat on the Laguna Madre. We figured we'd give it a try and honestly it was the highlight of our day. The pirate crew was awesome. Super funny, engaged, and you could tell that all on board (kids and families) had a great time!!! We saw porpoises and everything. Even saw a wedding proposal (unusual choice but hey if you're feeling that a mock galleon is the place, then it's the place). Last bit certainly not least the magician was top notch. His coin magic and sleights were very polished. Great way to kill some time until it was time to board. read more

The cruise starts with a 30 min. show done before boarding the ship which was funny and entertaining for both kids and grown-ups. Then, we aboard the ship with their very energetic and funny pirates that are entertaining you the entire time. On top of that, everyone got water guns and we sprayed each other, then their was a treasure hunt for the kids, and many more games and dancing! The ship has a bar with waitstaff and very tasty drinks, snacks and non-alcoholic beverages. They also sell some toys/souvenirs for the kids. They kept the action going throughout the entire cruise and made sure to include all passengers in the shenanigans. We booked this cruise for my children (ages 6 & 7), but I definitely had the most fun! I'll be upfront the only reason they don't get 5 is because when we talked to the guy before we bought tickets later during the week he made it sound like the price included drinks. Once in the trip come to find out 2 drinks cost me $18 (on top of the $80 I spent for 2). Now it wasn't just that, the drink menu had no prices, additionally I was not the only person who was "wait what?" The couple sitting next to us were like umm we were led to believe it was included as well. You want to see a price. You have to head to the bar, but never did until the tab was due, they come to you with drinks and menus. Ok enough of a rant about my drink upsets. The trip was fun, if you have kids the pirates do a lot with the kids/teens. So overall it was a good experience just be forewarned about the drinks. read more

Don't take your kids on this. I'm on the boat with my four and nine year old. They did very little things for the children on board and the rest has been devoted to promoting alcohol and provocative dancing for the older people on board. Their half hearted attempts to involved the seven children that wanted to have fun has been hilariously pathetic. There has been one water gun battle for everyone they took one child and gave him a bandana and eye patch and they did a two second sword fight for a few of the kids. For a two hour boat ride the people running this are more worried about the alcohol and the "winter Texans" then they are the fun for the kids. read more

If you have children, you have to do this cruise. Have to. Friends and I took our five children (ages 3 and a half to almost 11) and they ALL had an absolute blast. The crew were *constantly* keeping the kids entertained. Squirt guns were involved, so be sure to put your phones away when the guns come out because they show no mercy. None. "Shoot your parents!!!" There was face painting (mustaches and scars), dancing, sword fighting, treasure, etc. Two things I didn't like: 1) the pre-boarding show. The show itself was cute and funny, but we were running late, had rushed through dinner to get to the boat by the supposed 6:30 board time, only to sit and watch the show for 30 minutes. We totally wouldn't have horked down dinner. 2) They will nickel and dime you to death. It's not insanely expensive though. The eight of us spent roughly $60 and bought everything except the photo and the glow sticks. Kids have juice pouches and snacks, adults each had a beer and a whole lot of water. Fireworks at the end - the kids were impressed. Side note: the boat goes suuuuuuuuuper slow - like half a knot. No motion sickness whatsoever. read more

Well worth the money! Good for every age but especially for elementary. My 7 year old grandson woke up and asked if we can go again ! We did the 630pm to 9 pm and got to watch the sunset but the magic was in the staff who made the cruise absolutely a blast. This cruise is absolutely interactive. My daughter won the Dance off adult division. My grandson got to participate in the stage show prior to boarding and on the boat. Rraiseyour fist in the air and yell aarrrggghhhh with of us. There were watergun fights with EVERYONE. There are refreshments from slushes to open bar. This is the highlight of our vacation refreshments so far. Let me say first off, that this pirate themed sunset cruise is meant for families with small children. I have no children. But I really did have a good time. The pirates that staff the boat, are pretty terrible actors but they do a good job entertaining the little ones. Activities include sword fighting, treasure hunting, face paiting, and bingo... all while cruising on a pretty cool pirate ship while watching the sunset. There is booze for the parents. It's kind of expensive... I think $36 for adults and $25 for kids, but if you want to take your kids to something that they will enjoy and remember long after the vacation is over, bring them on this boat. For adults looking for a laid back sunset cruise without the kiddies, check out the Southern Wave catamaran. As a kidless adult, I enjoyed that boat more than the dragon. read more
