I called ahead to clarify about passenger age vs driver age for jet skiing, and someone picked up right away and was prompt with their answer! So I booked a jet skiing excursion right away. The check in person was great - pragmatic, slightly sarcastic, super efficient. The teacher was great as well - efficient and made us feel safe the entire time. He made sure to watch over us as we jet skiied the bay and whenever we fell off. I only wore my swim suit and no shoes bc I didn't want my shoe to get stuck in the mud. The life vest has both a zipper and buckles, so it felt super secure. The water is only ~3.5 feet high, with the bottom full of soft mud and seaweed. This was our first time jet skiing, and we def got wet and fell multiple times but it was all so fun! I def would come again. read more

One of the best excursions ever! Enjoyed a fantastic dolphin watching boat ride! Capt Chapo was absolutely awesome! He was very knowledgeable about the dolphins and the area too! It made the experience extra fun and interesting! And wow what a great boat captain--super fun to buzz through the water with such skill! We even got to see space X from the water! I highly encourage trying an event from SPI excursions--definitely worth a visit for sure! And ask for Capt Chapo--he does fishing excursions too and I am sure those are great as well! First-time parasailer here (me & my 7-year-old) + a repeat flier (boyfriend)... and it will NOT be our last! The experience was great from start to finish- firstly, these guys operate out of a Bayside spot eith ample parking & large, clean bathrooms on your way through Lobo Del Mar Cafe to get to their docks. There's a great little walk-up straight from the parking lot too, but we didn't know about that til after... but great for photos/ video (see attached)! Staff were promt, courteous & friendly. Our group was on the boat & on our way to making memories right on time! They let my son & I fly first so boyfriend could video-- we started from the back of the boat & had a blast up there for about 10 minutes before they reeled us in & we landed safely back on the back of the boat! This was my first time parasailing, so went in with no expectations. We met up at the dock, where we could buy drinks from the restaurant that was connected that you could apparently take up in the air, which is a cool option to have. Once everyone had arrived, we go in the boat and were off (about a 10 minute boat ride before we started parasailing). I did tandem parasailing and had a lot of fun. It's not scary at all, and it was peaceful floating up that high. The water is pretty dirty and there's nothing amazing about the view, but it was exhilarating nonetheless. All in all, we were up in the air for 8 minutes. You're allowed to take your phone up (I used a waterproof phone holder), but a worker also offered to take photos from down below. Overall, very fun experience and felt safe the whole time. read more

My friend and I booked a jet ski tour and our experience was not great. When boarding the jet skis, the tour guide told my friend to lie about her age if anyone asked and we didn't know why, as we had already signed waivers etc. At the beginning of the tour, the guide said we shouldn't fall off and if we did, he promised he would help us. It was supposed to be a tour and the guide was supposed to tell us the history of different parts of the island and he didn't do that at all. He was going way too fast on the jet ski to the point where we safely couldn't catch up to him. There were also children on this tour and he was not being mindful of that either. My friend and I hit a wake too hard trying to catch up and fell off. When the tour guide finally noticed we fell, he came over and just watched us struggle to get back on. We both hit the water so hard we had the wind knocked out of us. The water was also rough so we were struggling to climb back on. I asked the guy to help us back on and he just watched us and would not get off his ski to help or see if we were okay. The other families were the ones asking if we were okay. All in all the "tour" guide was very lacking and unprofessional. read more

This was the worst snorkeling location I've ever seen! The guide didn't say two words to us all the way out to the north shore. Then when we get there, it was "here is your gear, stay close to the boat" then he started watching tv on his phone. The water was about 4 feet deep with a muddy bottom and grass. There were a few fish, but really nothing to see. The visibility was terrible because if you stood up, you stirred up the mud. The gear was low quality and kept filling with water (both the snorkel and mask). My daughter couldn't ever get her mask to fit right and ended up just sitting on the boat for the entire time. The guide never even asked if he could help her or tried to give her different gear. Terrible experience! read more

We booked parasailing for our family of four to end our yearly South Padre vacation. Based on the reviews, we went with SPI excursions and happily splurged on the $385 (cost plus tax) to do so. Imagine our dismay when, once we were in the water, we saw that the sail was a huge advertisement for Trump. We did our best to enjoy the experience but we were all completely dismayed. All our photos have TRUMP in them. When we sent this to our family to see if they'd notice, everyone did. They all noticed letters and zoomed in to see what it said & see us more closely. If SPI can't understand how wildly inappropriate this is to do without notice to families, perhaps they can imagine the same scenario but where 'Biden' or 'BLM' was in all their family photos. The guide told that mud got stuck and said that we didn't follow his directions which is completely false as it was like that from beginning. Went to parasail for the morning trip at 11. Got there, the workers were completely clueless, they didn't want to call whoever to do the parasailing acting scared to call. Sold us a triple one, then got on boat and captain told us we couldn't do 3 because of no wind which was fine but shouldn't we told the workers before we bought for 3? We would have just done two and save the $90 for the extra trip, but the captain did let my son go twice since they told us 3 could go at the front. Which was a nice makeup. In the air for about 7 minutes. We left at 11 got back at 11:30. There were 3 rides total. Got back and my son forgot his shirt. Ran back to ask worker to grab it out of boat (which was just sitting 4 foot from them) made a big deal about getting it. It was literally right there on the seat we could see it. The workers finally went in and got it took a whole 30 seconds but made a 5 minute ordeal to walk up and get it off the boat for absolutely no reason. Captain was great and so was the helper who loaded you onto the parachute. 3/5 because of communication being horrible and the front workers being clueless. Not sure I would go back as Iv been to another parasailing company on island and was way better experience. read more

Had to try a banana boat again after decades! Lol! It was a lot of fun! They take cash only and the ride is about 20 minutes. There was almost no wait and they were very professional. I do think that the best part is the thrill of falling or almost falling off. I went with another 3 ppl. There was a kid and an elderly woman. We did 2 excursions with SPI Excursions. The first one was a banana boat ride. We walked up to SPI Excursions to initially confirm parking availability for our van. We had a parasailing excursion for the next day. While we were talking to Brandy, we decided to see if we could get on a banana boat ride. He was able to make it happen right then and there. He didn't impact the people that were "boarding" because he said we could pay at the end of the ride - all we needed to complete was our waivers. When done, Brandy provided us discount coupon for the attached Lobo del Mar restaurant with a recommendation to have the Loboviche. What a great day!! The same amazing experienced happened the next day when went on their parasailing excursion. It was a perfect day and so much fun! I was glad I did it tandem to better share the experience. First of all the website is so easy to navigate to find availability and information and facts on all they have to offer here! Every question I had was answered by the website. My husband and kids went out on the late afternoon run for parasailing. Hubby was only going to be a rider when he realized things were pretty safe and he was comfortable and curious and decided to go up with our niece and nephew, he is very glad he did! The kids all had so much fun. The consistent comments from all of them were that they were really nervous about parasailing, but that the captains onboard made them feel comfortable and at ease about it, by the time they were in the air they loved how peaceful it is up there and would gladly do it again! I was excited to book parasailing with my 6 year-old daughter for my bday trip. Based on the reviews, we went with SPI. I was incredibly disheartened when I saw the parachute was a large advertisement for Trump. We were already on the boat and my daughter was so excited, so we were not going to back out, but it rubbed me the wrong way. All our photos very clearly have TRUMP in them - I have already sent them to someone to have it photoshopped out. Wearing a Trump hat (which the Captain was wearing) is absolutely your prerogative, but affecting people's experiences by forcing it in their photos is wildly inappropriate. Yes, there are some people who will love to have it in their photos; we should have been given a choice of which parachute we would have liked to use, especially for the money we pay. read more

This 90 minute historical tour was the highlight of our visit to SPI. Trevor, our knowledgeable and easygoing tour guide rolled out the red carpet and treated us like royalty. The jet skis are easy to operate but he still made sure we were comfortable with the operating features before we started our journey. My amazing bride obviously wanted to pilot her own machine and she did great and loved every moment of the experience. The trip included fascinating places of interest like Space X, historical bridges and known dolphin feeding grounds. YES, we saw dolphins up close and tons of pelicans too. Can't say enough. The check in process was very low stress as the sweet hostess gathered our information and said just wait in the restaurant and will come out and get you when your tour is about to start. Yes the same family owns the restaurant and the activities business and they are down to earth and easy to work with. Later that evening we Came back for dinner and enjoyed the best coconut shrimp ever including live music and an amazing bagpipes performance that apparently happens every day! Most uncomfortable experience ever and we're a military family who lived many places! If you're a confederate flag lover and support the insurrection on our Nation's Capital, this is the place for you! If not, please find another excursion company! Their beliefs are proudly displayed in their restaurant attached to this company. We later found out they were the same company. We would have had a better experience if politics was just left out. It's hard to enjoy an experience when you're so uncomfortable. We were ready to leave before it even started. To be clear the confederate flag is not hanging anywhere, but was a tattoo on our tour guide who said his family owned these businesses. Our fishing experience was horrible. Javi was kind, patient and informative with snorkeling, and took us to see some dolphins. the dolphin watch (I don't remember his name) was amazing. we learned a lot about the area and was able to see lots of dolphins! Only downfall is we booked parasailing (didn't get to do due to weather), but once we took in a foster child who is an infant I called the company and they advised she would not be charged, but bring a life jacket for her. When we arrived, they told us she couldn't be on the boat at all. The captain was wonderful and made accommodations for us and we rescheduled. Our vacation to Costa Rica was cancelled because of the pandemic, so we were struggling with ways to salvage part of our trip by staying in Texas. Once the governor opened the beaches, we figured South Padre Island was the place to go! We knew things would be bit slower than normal, but figured we didn't need to be closer than 6 feet to soak up some quality time on the water. The plan was to fish and swim and jet ski. The weather said "Here, hold my beer". All of our activities were cancelled so we threw a Hail Mary pass hoping Lobo Del Mar could take us fishing. It was delayed but eventually were able to go fishing with Chapo who had plenty of poles, bait and great fishing spots for our 4-hour tour. Chapo told us great stories, baited my hook with well-cared for shrimp, and casted for me. He cleaned our fish and we were able to take a good amount home for dinner. I love the idea of supporting a family-owned business, especially in the middle of COVID-19. If you do make it SPI, make this your first choice. read more
