You might have to endure a long line to take a picture of yourself, posing with this large buoy, but the line goes fast and there's plenty to do around the buoy, including food trucks, restaurants, and shopping. Definitely a must see in Key West, Duvall Street. We went in April 26, 2026 & the original place was being reno'ed (basically down the street). So we saw the temporary location & worth visiting. Weather was perfect, line wasn't too long & we were only 90 miles to Cuba read more

I didn't know we could review a buoy! This was definitely a highlight of the trip in Key West. My advice is get there early. 7 AM and no line! It was definitely breathtaking to feel and know we were at the most southern point of the country. It was peaceful and had a small private beach side, which was not what I imagined. read more

This picture is taken from a little bit of way away because the line was very very long to get a picture with it. I'm guessing maybe super early in the morning would be a better time to go. This is my 3rd time here and haven't gotten up early enough to try that theory. But I do love this historical location and how they have re done and painted this buoy. It's one of those "you have to stop at least once" Key West landmarks, but honestly, it's more about the photo than the experience. The buoy itself is iconic and colorful -- definitely worth a quick snapshot to say you've been to the Southernmost Point in the continental U.S. That said, the line can be long (especially midday), and there's not much else to do in the immediate area. Parking can also be tricky unless you're walking or biking there. It's fun for a few minutes, but once you get your picture, you're basically done. Still, it's a piece of Key West tradition and worth checking off your list -- just don't expect more than a quick stop and a souvenir photo. read more

Another tourist thing to do is to locate and log a visit to the Southernmost Point Buoy. Having done this several times through the years, it never loses its allure for me. It's a lovely contemplative spot to consider how small humanity is and how vast the ocean and distance from my home state happens to be and just feels a world away. read more

It's iconic and worth the pic. You get to hang with roosters and meet cool people in line. A line that will always be long even on weekdays. Avoid the touristy restaurants there and head back into Key West for some cooler spots. read more

You have to get a picture with this iconic buoy if you are in Key West! It's like going to Disney World and not snapping a picture of Cinderella's Castle, you just can't do it. Get here early though because there is a line and it does form quickly. Luckily, people are just taking a couple pictures at a time so the line moves pretty quick. Smile big and take a great pic, it makes an awesome talking piece to hang up on your wall back home! read more

You came all the way to Key West, and DIDN'T take a look at this most famous of famous Key West landmarks?!?! Didn't you want to stand in the hot Florida sun for 20 minutes with the hoards of other tourists waiting to take pictures? No? Well, sir and/or madam, you missed out! Seriously, we waited in line for something like 20 minutes to get a picture (for free, on our own phones) with noone else in it. This isn't required, btw, it's out in public, and anyone can just walk up and take pictures. However, at least on the day we went, people were queueing up politely and letting everyone take their "stranger free" photos. It actually went pretty fast. My friend and I made friends with the group behind us, and they took our photos and we took their photos. Nice. Orderly. Efficiently. This was kind of a bucket list item for both of us to knock out, and we are very happy to have done it. Also, you're not really out in the hot sun the whole time. The property next to it has trees that overhang the sidewalk, so you get shade. Just go see the dang thing! Be a tourist! 120/2025 read more

I visited this unplanned attraction last year in November and boy was it packed with people. I was with a friend at the time. There was an extremely long line of people waiting to take their pictures near the southernmost buoy, however, my friend and I didn't take the chance to wait. Yes, we cut the invisible line as there wasn't anyone monitoring it and it appeared that people were only waiting for their picture with solely the object. However, I didn't care if other people were in the background of my picture as I know I can easily delete (if I wanted to) them out with the new technology of the 21st century. Plus, I'm sure I visited this attraction as a child with my immediate family. I just wanted a picture as an adult. A lot of people were taking pictures from different angles and of course there's no rules to not stand in the line. The buoy itself was a concrete object sitting on the southernmost point of Florida in the Florida Keys of Key West. A bit of a tongue twister there. Ha!! The street in front of the buoy was flooded, but manageable to walk on. The waters behind the buoy was indeed turquoise blue and a beautiful sight to see. Since I went to the Westernmost Point of Washington this year, I need to plan to see the Easternmost and Northernmost points of the United States too. FREE and the most iconic statue of the continental USA. The official southernmost point of the USA. The line is intimidating, it can get long all the way down the sidewalk, but it moves fast. I've never waited more than 30 mins, usually you get through the line in 15-20 mins wait time. Go early morning around 8am for no line. The parking is limited here, all street paid parking (meter) or paid lots. You likely won't find a spot even if you pay, so you're better off riding bikes here or walking. The earlier you go, the less crowded it'll be, and more likely you'll find parking. Also, there's live webcam footage!! So look for yourself on the video! It's a tourist photo op but there's two outdoor bars right next to it. Theres a nice pier to walk out on as well. Ppl are nice and will take a photo for you. Pic of the catfish as a tip to look for more cute statues around :) read more

Like most of Key West, this is a busy spot for tourists... but everyone wants to say they've been to the southernmost part of the US. We had one day in Key West on our way to the Bahamas, so we wanted to get in as much as possible while still enjoying ourselves. We decided to beat the crowds and make the Southernmost Point Buoy our first stop of the day... as did everyone else. There was a line backed up. Granted, we planned on getting there sooner but we had an issue with our golf cart rental and installing the car seat for our little one. There isn't much to review here other than the photo op and the view of the ocean. My only advice is to get there early. How early? I don't know... we were too late to find out lol. read more

SMILE YOU'RE ON CAMERA... It's only a 90 mile swim from Cuba to the Southernmost Point in the Continental United States, which houses the legendary red and black iconic bouy. It was artistically designed in 1983 and affixed along Whitehead Street next to the crashing waves of the Gulf of Mexico. During the last few years, catastrophic hurricanes have severely damaged the bouy and in the next few months it will be removed for a total overhaul and a replica bouy will be temporarily installed for those beloved photos. Tourists beware, look up at the 24 hour web camera that records your every move. read more

The southern most point bout is THE thing to do in key west. However with everyone doing it, anticipate at least a 2 hour line. It is absurd how long people wait to take a picture. I went, saw it, and moved on. There are so many things to do in key west, it's not worth it to me. I was also there on a cruise stop and it's not worth wasting the whole port on. If you are in key west for an extended stay it might be more worth it. read more

We came here the third week of May 2025. We went by this spot four times every time we went by, there was a long line to Get your picture taken. I hear the best way to get there and get your photo is to get up early and be there by 8 am. We never did get our photo so I just took a picture of it. read more

This is a must-see if you're visiting Key West. If you're staying on the island, use a rideshare service or walk because the parking is limited. There is street parking so if you're there for a day trip, keep the faith. Once you arrive, there will be a long line but it goes by very quickly. Just be kind. You might make a friend. read more

If you're going to drive around on a hot day in a golf cart, I recommend stopping at the southernmost point Buoy Bar. It is a small corner stand. that makes delicious frozen rum drinks. The first drink cost a little more because you get the souvenir cup. Refills however, are half the price. We went back with our cups every day. read more

Couple things- there's a line. Keep that in mind so you're prepped. It goes pretty quick, but in the hot sun it can be prickly. People on the line are pretty friendly about helping out with snapping photos. And lay, don't be a time hog. Everyone is melting, take your photos and keep it moving. A trip to key west isn't complete without a buoy photo. read more

Taking a road trip down to the Keys to see the Southernmost Point was a pretty memorable experience. The drive itself is beautiful, with stunning ocean views and the famous Overseas Highway stretching out over the water. Along the way, you get to enjoy laid-back vibes, quirky shops, and plenty of spots to stop for fresh seafood or a quick swim. It's free to visit and easy to find - just head south on South Street - LOL! We walked there from Duval Street, the main drag that everyone visits. Make sure you have a hat and eye protection from the sun and good walking shoes. Please note, the Southern most point in the continental U.S. can be very crowded with tourists. The few times we walked by, there was a long line of tourists queuing to get their photo at this southern point landmark. If you go early in the morning, you might have better luck. Note, there isn't anyone there taking your picture in front of the buoy, you'll need to ask the next tourist in line or bring a friend who can take your picture there. We didn't bother lining up, so I took a picture of the buoy with some other couple in front of it. It seems like there is always someone there. At sunset, this is a very popular spot, but there is very limited room to see the sun sink into the ocean. This landmark is right next to the naval base, so there is a heavy duty fence walling off the area from view. The sidewalk is narrow and it is easy to find yourself in the street, but this corner turn is a popular thoroughfare for cars too, so be aware! read more

Here's the thing about the Southernmost Point Buoy: it's a lie. A beautifully painted, selfie-ready, Instagram-dominating lie -- and you should absolutely go wait in line for it anyway. Everyone comes down to Key West thinking this is some sacred geographic marker, the literal tip of America where you can practically high-five Cuba across the water. Spoiler: you can't. The real southernmost point is on a restricted U.S. Naval Base just a few hundred feet away. That's right -- there's a patch of sand and rock you can't touch without Pentagon clearance, but you're going to stand next to a 12-foot-tall, 4-ton concrete buoy painted like a rum-soaked billboard pretending otherwise. Welcome to paradise. And here's the magic: you'll love every second of it. The line is part of the ritual. This time, we were riding bikes by and the line was longer so I just took a photo from the distance across the street. Be quick when you take your photo. Kindly ask someone next to you in line to take your photo if needed and move along. read more

Arrive early to take your pics or be patient. Yes, it's a tourist trap, but it's free to check off your bucket list. Told this location has been relocated temporarily due to construction at original area. At new current location, there's a nice beach and cement pier strip. read more

A must see if you are a first time visitor. Definitely try to get there as early as possible or expect to wait in the brutal heat for at least 5-30 minutes. We opted to walk to check out Duval St. entirely. *Big mistake if you choose fashionable sandals over comfortable ones. Plenty of places to stop, shop, and grad a drink or two. Not many places have A/C that will help cool you down during the walk. The areas around the buoy are beautiful spots for the perfect photo opts. read more

We've been to Key West many times, and every single time we go, we still make it a point to get our picture taken. The line to take photos can get a little long, but it usually moves quickly and is well worth the wait. Based on reading others posts about the long line to get to the marker, I got there early about 8:30am. There was still a line at that time but people were in good spirits and it moved and I got my photo. If you're in Key West, it's worth the trip. read more

Cool site to visit, if only to say you've been, but other than that, it does feel like the hype around this tourist stop has been blown out of proportion. There's literally a market and a pleasant, mediocre view of the water. That's all you'll get here, take it or leave it. Glad I checked it off the list, but it didn't stand out in any meaningful way. read more

Well, let's start by saying that this isn't really the "southern most point" but it's the symbolism. We came in the afternoon and not only was the line really long (about half way down the block), but the lighting was terrible. The sun was pointing right into where you would take the picture from. This would result in your faces not lit and silhouettes. So after about 10 minutes in line, we got out and came back for golden hour. The lighting was great and to our surprise, the line was much shorter at this time. I think it was because all of the cruise people were back on their boats and sunset is a prime dinner hour. Anyhow, the shorter line went quickly and people were taking the people in front of them's picture. There were no issues and we even got a parking spot right across the street from it. read more

A fun, quick stop while in Key West, this buoy signifies the southernmost point of the continental USA. We came later at night, and it wasn't too busy - only had to wait a couple minutes to grab a picture. All in all, we spent about five minutes here. Probably would've been cooler to see it in the daylight to get that ocean view behind it, but still a nice stop at night. While it'll be a short stop, it's worth a visit. read more

You gotta check this out at least once, even if it's not technically the Southernmost Point. It's iconic regardless. The line will appear long but it moves quickly. I've been twice in the past couple of years and people in line are always willing to take your picture with the buoy, which is nice. It's a picturesque scene and steps from Duval Street. read more

There was a line but it was moving quickly. Extremely hot but had some shade in the line. Quick tip I seen locals taking people on tours and grabbing quick shots but standing on. The bench and aiming around the people. I tried it after and it worked. You can look i posted one pic after waiting in line. And one Pic standing on the bench cutting out the people standing next to it with our heads. read more

The novelty is cool. The Point is simply a large buoy that visitors line up to see and take photos with. Tourists are friendly and quick to offer or agree to take photos of families. The whole experience takes minutes, unless you're here on a busy day, and the lines are long. read more

If you're in Key West, you have to stop by and grab your pic with this Buoy. Be prepared to stand in line and be aware that there is precious little shade and no seating as you wait. Elderly/physically challenged individuals be prepared! I was fortunate enough to get a parking spot nearby, so I was able to have my momma sit in the air-conditioned car until I was to the front of the line. Bonus points--there was a coconut water vendor just a short hop down the way and I was able to get her a refreshing drink after our picture was taken. Folks are pretty cool about taking your photo for you, and you should be cool and take other people's photos too. read more

A must see when visiting the Keys. It is a quick visit, snap your photos. You'd mostly likely spend most of your time waiting in line to grab that pic. We came right before sunset and there were only a couple of people there to our surprise. The buoy looked freshly painted as I know it takes a lot of hits from strong waves. I think it is a unique experience worth visiting. Parking is on the street for this. read more

It's a nice remembrance of the history of the town and the struggles that some of their residents had to endure decades ago. The statue, erected in March 2015, celebrates the life of Bishop Albert Kee, a preacher, businessman, and Key West's official ambassador of goodwill. Each day, Bishop Kee could be seen at the Southernmost Point, greeting the Conch Train with a cheerful wave and toot on a conch shell. He educated visitors about the origins of conch and various uses for conch meat and also explained how Key West's natives came to be called Conchs. Bishop Kee, and his father before him, left a 50-year legacy of welcoming all who visited the Southernmost Point and popularized conch blowing. More important, they were emissaries of the multi-cultural, multi-ethnic community that had made Key West unique since its inception. Bishop Kee witnessed the Southernmost Point evolve into a spot that thousands of tourists flock to for their photos. And he was there when the old wooden southernmost billboard was replaced with the oversized buoy proclaiming that it is the southernmost point in the continental United States. The buoy design originated from a large floating buoy that marked the entrance to the Black Beach. A number of years prior to this, President Harry Truman took a big step in support of equal rights when he ordered that the military become desegregated. His orders were interpreted to mean that desegregation applied only to military personnel. President Dwight D. Eisenhower took this a step further and desegregated the entire military.The historic Black Beach could not be returned to the community since a large portion of it was now a military base with Navy housing built along the adjacent shores. However, as a gesture to the community, the city built a large community pool and community center at the edge of Bahama Village. The pool was situated to look over the beaches that were once Black Beach and toward the waters of the Atlantic Ocean. It had ground level space for community gatherings and was open to all. The pool is currently called the Martin Luther King Community Center and is located at 300 Catherine Street in Bahama Village.

If you go, make sure you climb to the top. The view is spectacular and absolutely worth the steps. The lighthouse keeper's house and surrounding grounds are first rate and give you a real sense of what life was like more than 100 years ago. There are numerous displays explaining both the daily work and the technology required to keep the lighthouse operating. It's informative without feeling overwhelming. A must-visit when you're in Key West.

A must see while in Key West!…read more It's quiet, serene, beautiful place to just sit among lush garden and watch the sea. So many amazing views and benches available to sit and just relax. It's free, but they do request a donation that is voluntary! There was a kind woman sitting at the desk who gave us a map, and explained their history briefly. It's a beautiful place to stop in and visit, with their butterfly garden and orchid arbor stealing the show. Bathrooms were very clean as well.

It's a well maintain garden in the Martello Fort, the volunteer lady was very helpful and friendly. Pretty place with lot of orchid and a small butterfly garden, very relaxing walk and there are picnic tables and benches. Every corner of the garden is a beautiful spot for photographers

It's located directly along the path into the White Street Pier; not very large but its worth taking notice, not because it's overly impressive but to recognize these victims of this terrible disease. There are many many names etched into the granite memorial and if you know of someone that you feel deserves to be added, you can submit a name for nomination. They add names yearly.

It's a very stressful experience to visit the Key West AIDS Memorial. It's a gorgeous looking…read morememorial but looking at all those names of the deceased, for the most part young, a few of whom I knew, brought tears to my eyes. Worse it remains unfinished as HIV victims are still dying. The memorial has been enlarged twice and names are still been added. The Key West AIDS Memorial was built with private funds and donated to the City of Key West in 1997. At that time not only was Key West battling an epidemic few people understood, but it was also becoming a refuge for hundreds of people who were diagnosed elsewhere but felt they could not remain at home in what many considered to be hostile environments. So they moved to Key West, which drove the "real" numbers much higher and put an overwhelming strain on the medical resources of the tiny island community. I might add that the Key West AIDS Memorial was the first municipal memorial to AIDS victims in the world.

So obviously I am going to give this Key West cultural landmark and plaza 5 stars because IT SHARES MY NAME!! Like many others have said, this is a tourist hot spot with lots of beachy shopping, restaurants, and museums. My dad made sure to take lots of photos of me by my namesake plaza while we visited Key West on family trips back when I was a kid. I wasn't so enthused to pose back then but I am now as an adult!! Mallory isn't a common name so I have a biased opinion of anything or anyone that is named Mallory. I can't wait to come back and get even more time in MY square! :)

I point this out only becasue some folks get Mallory Square - the outdoor entertainment area confused with the Shops at Mallory Square - the building with lots of shops and dining areas. When you ask for directions, most locals will give you directions to the outdoor entertainment area. This is a great location to catch the sunset, see street performers, do some people-watching or to grab a bite to eat.
