The pool, itself is huge! 17 meters in width, and the length is even greater. The water is crisp and cold. There are a handful of lounge chairs available on a first come first served basis. A lifeguard is on duty during open swim (Monday through Friday 1:00-5:45, Saturdays from 9:00-5:45 with a lunch break daily from 11:45-1:00). No floaties are allowed in the pool. Life jackets are available. To swim in the deep end which is 10-feet in depth, children must take a swim test with the lifeguard and receive a bracelet to show their capability. There is a small pool for babies/toddlers, not more than 6-13 inches in depth. Only minimal parking is available outside, street parking, too. A public park and playground are also just outside the pool, where you can sit in the shade at picnic tables or play on the playground. No food is allowed poolside. The lifeguard called this place the best kept secret in Key West. I'm inclined to agree, and at the very least it is the best kept secret free place to go on the island. The pool averaged about 77° during our visit and late December, which was The Goldilocks just right combo of cool enough for me and not so freezing that my husband wouldn't get in with me. It's a nice large pool with a 10-ft deep end, and they have some lap swimming only hours in the morning for those who prefer to swim in a child-free environment. The pool also overlooks the ocean and there are plenty of deck chairs to enjoy a book and suck up some sun. Did I mention, it's free! And the staff is fantastic. we tended to see the same people everyday and everyone seemed to know each other by name. We learned that lifeguard Brian hails from Michigan like is and that his wife shares my first name. It was nice to build a little swimming community -- made it really feel like home. The bathrooms are the only reason there is a deductive star -- The shower is sort of feel like a prison shower, and our only cold water, so I always showered when I get back to the house. read more
