They steal your money. Do not use them! We left a deposit pre Covid. We could not find a builder in time so we needed an extension. They cancelled our contract to do that not telling us we were not locked in terms of price. They raised the prices so much they priced us out of the project. Then refused to give us our 15k deposit back. They lied to better business bureau and were nasty to deal either way. We were told basically " sorry you are stuck because this is what our policy is and what you signed." They push you to give a deposit and lied to us by saying they are customer friendly and would return a deposit if there were extenuating circumstances. False!! We cannot get anyplace and of course their time limit has expired leaving us no option other than to seek legal advice. Do not sign anything and do not give a deposit. read more

The sales process was fine but after that was a fight to the end. We were supposed to get a free garage and they didn't ship it at first. Our contractor, who was recommended by Southland didn't notice. He used part of the house wood to frame the garage. When we brought it to Southland's attention, they did send the garage materials. In the meantime, we had to buy a bunch of wood to keep moving with the process. The window screens were missing and it took 3 shipments and a lot of time to get that rectified. The good news is, in the end they took care of everything. The bad news is it took many emails and phone calls before it was handled. read more

Southland was very responsive to our change requests. I am disappointed that their list of builders putting up log homes included someone who did shabby, poor quality work (Dakota Contractor). We have had issue after issue because of the builder. I understand that the builder is not part of Southland Log Homes, but they need to delete Dakota from their list of available builders. read more

Southland delivered as promised on time! Products were of good quality and anything that was backordered did come as promised. I would have given them a 5 Star IF.... the builder they " highly recommended" ( they know who he is ) wasn't recommended at all. Our builder turned our dream into a nightmare and that's putting it lightly. Our Builder was unprofessional, rude and condescending, was neither knowledgeable nor resourceful- We had no choice but to reach out to local contractors ourselves and forced to take matters in our own hands- It took this builder 2 years to do highly questionable quality of work . He did not even show up before inspection or at inspection - ( it failed) - My friendly advice for Southland is NOT recommend any contractors- "Highly" recommending someone with this mentality is a future lawsuit and is not the vision your company seeks. One great day you guys will get caught "highly" recommending someone like this( especially if this joke of a builder is paying someone to do so) and he will get caught most definitely if not sued for the manner in which he plays nasty games with your good customers. read more

STAY AWAY. Dishonest, misleading, and do not communicate well internally. If it turns out you can't build they don't care. No refund, no exceptions. Be aware that it is extremely difficult to insure a log cabin. Southland team is very misleading, just a bunch of salespeople who don't care about the follow through, only care about pocketing that fat deposit. read more

Consider other log companies over Southland. They do not take ANY responsibility for their products and it's almost impossible to get any call back. We built a home with them a few years ago and now are dealing with a structural issue they never verbally informed us about, nor did they ever say we would have to deal with it in the future. Sure, small fine print is to be found in the docs, but this is a major structural issue that an honest company would have discussed with customers so they knew what was being designed for them. They offer NO help. Not even the name of a person who could fix it while we pay. Their staff is rude, agressive, yells, disrespectful talking to a woman customer and absolutely NO responsibility and NO help. That is the worst kinda business one can have, BUT it is also a business that doesnt care about their clients once you singed a contract. So save yourself major pain in the future - pick another company to spend your money on. read more
