Found this place at the Texas farmer's market and finally brought my knives out for their long due sharpening. It took 25 minutes so we made our way around the market, get some cookies and looked around. I sharpened two knives for slightly less than 20$, and it was so worth it! It literally cut my prepping time by half because I don't have to saw through my meats. It literally slices right down. Cutting tomatoes have also been a breeze! Just picked up my 7 knives from the Barton Creek farmer's market location. Wow. Completely brutalized my blades. The tips are unrecognizable from how much he shaved off. Uneven, scratched, and dull/brittle edges. This isn't professional sharpening by any stretch. Completely amateur. read more

After delaying a few weeks, I finally couldn't stand it any more. My precious knives were dulling more and more by the day- especially one that got chipped by my roommate in his drunken stupor. I headed over to the farmers market and challenged the heat to get some TLC for my set of 6 knives, including a bread knife. Dropped it off with a friendly guy who was already working with a knife on his grinder. It was really neat to see him work and the water cooling down the knife at the same time. He took a quick glance and told me, "15 minutes." Got it. Explored the farmers market and enjoyed some artisan bread, vegan tamales, and agua fresca. When I was ready to go, I circled back and saw the knife glistening and ready to go home with me. I paid $37 plus tip. I felt the blades and was very impressed. It was almost dangerous to just feel them. It also felt good knowing that this was done by hand and a local business. He gave me a quick explainer of his plan, then, within ten minutes, had the knife fixed up to as sharp as it's ever been. Couldn't be happier. Fantastic work by Southpaw Sharpening. I had 2 pairs of sewing scissors that were desperately in need of sharpening. I made an appointment to drop them off and he was actually able to take care of me right then. I maybe waited 5 minutes tops and got handed back perfectly sharp scissors. I had put off sharpening a pair of kitchen shears, having used them for years for boning chickens, etc. and finally resolved - during the current covid-19 crisis - to get them taken care of. Linden Lowery is great. I requested a quote, and he got back to me within an hour and set up a time to come over. On the day of, he called from his cell phone when he arrived to let me know he was outside (he was a little early and waited for me in his car until I was ready to let him in). He sharpened 7 knives for me in about 20 minutes, and he even gave me a quick lesson on how to hone my blades (I have never felt very comfortable or confident doing this). He was in no way offended whenever I asked to test the sharpness of the blades while he was there (if a knife can't easily slice through a tomato without any pressure being applied, it's no good to me-- one tomato was duly sacrificed in the name of science). I never once felt uncomfortable having him in my home or being alone at the house with him. His rates were comparable to what I've paid taking my knives in to a shop to get them sharpened; it made me wonder why I had never called a mobile sharpening service before! He takes cash, check or credit, and you have the option to tip if you so choose-- I encourage you to tip your trades people well! I will definitely be using Lynden's services again. read more

Very polite, but broke our blades. I'm not terribly impressed with the experience I had with Southpaw Sharpening. I had called Lindin to get my grooming salons shears and blades sharpened. He was on time, polite and clean, and did an excellent job on all of our shears, but not a single blade worked after he had sharpened them. He was called back to fix his work, and after the resharpening, the broken blades still didn't function. We asked for a full refund for the money we spend on blades and he (very politely) refused us for personal reasons. Now here's where it gets weird. I ask him if he would try repairing the blades one more time, since he won't refund us . We set up a time and date, and then a day before the date I get a text saying that he will refund me the money in forty five days' time, and that he would mail it. Forty five days, to get a refund of forty five dollars. That strikes me as pretty ridiculous, so I ask if we can get the money back sooner, and he never replies. I'm not impressed by the fact that we basically paid him 45$ for him to break our blades and he won't give us back our money in a prompt time. If this was any other service they would refund us promptly, apologize, and then we could all be on our way. This is just silly, and worth warning other groomers about. read more

First let me say, I have always been one to do this sort of thing myself. This time around, my roommates ensured that every knife in my kitchen would require the attention of a professional. And THAT is exactly what you get with Southpaw I called ahead, made an appointment, he called back to verify, and delivered his services as promised. He came to my residence totally prepared and did the job quickly on site. It was great to have all of my knives use-able again. One knife was so rough that he had to take it back to his shop, so for that on we arranged a drop-off date before he left. Not once did I have to GO anywhere! It was awesome I doubt I will ever sharpen my own kitchen knives again after this, as its easier to call Southpaw, and he does a MUCH better job than I ever could. Five stars all the way! read more

I want to keep up the 5 stars for Southpaw. The sharpening he does on good kitchen knives is awesome! My neighbor and I both gathered our neglected blades of various types and handed them off to Lynden because he offers a mobile services. He picks up and then returns your items a few days later. His prices are very fair. Our orders included some old garden implements...these came out less well because they had other issues besides needing sharpening (after all he is not into tool repair, just the sharpening.) However my kitchen knives where a wonder to behold after his work! After using a brick & mortar place in central Austin for my knives these past10+ years, I realized that I had never gotten back a really sharp knife in the past. I brought Lyndon a pair of clippers I inherited, the old manual kind, and before he got his hands on them they cut like a butter knife wielded by a three year old having a temper tantrum on too much sugar. Now they cut like a wonderous dream. They're shiny on the inside, but he didn't mess with the patina that had developed on the outside. They still look like grandma's clippers, and cut like they did when she was my age. Probably better, if we're being honest with ourselves, and each other. I moved away shortly after, but you can bet your bottom dollar when they need a sharpening again, they're going back to Southpaw, even if I have to walk them there. read more
